Can you delete thumbnail files safely

I need to clean up for HD space.
FCPX GENERATES a lot of thumbnail files. Can these be deleted safely, what can happen if I do?
Render files have not been a problem I know they render again.

Yes. The thumbnail files will be re-geerated the next time you open the project.
Just to say, however, that you should not expect any more than very modest space savings. It's the High Quality Media render folder that typically offers the big potential for savings.

Not if you are syncing it with iCloud. If the data you delete from your iOS device belongs to any of the data categories that you have set to On in Settings>iCloud it will also be deleted from iCloud.

Can't delete .ai files

I can't delete .ai files in Adobe Illustrator v.10 in running on Vista.
error says "....can't delete file is begining used"
I have tried everything the web has to offer including: safe boot, various deletion software, changing aiicon.dll, Crap cleaner, chsdsk, etc.
I sure there are plenty of people that have this problem, as I scan the web, however, no solutions have seem to be found.

I've had this problem frequently with both .AI and .EPS files on Windows XP, from different versions of Illustrator, notably 7 and 10. You may want to try this program:

It runs quietly in the background until there is a sharing violation (e.g. you are unable to delete a file, etc.). Then it pops up a window showing which process has locked the file. With Illustrator files, the culprit is usually Windows Explorer... my guess is that it tries to generate a preview thumbnail but somehow never quite finishes, and leaves the file open. You will have the option of killing the offending process (which is kind of a dirty way to do things, but drastic times... you know). You should then be able to delete the file(s) with no problem.

The .DS_Store file is normal. It holds certain settings related to the folder it is found in. Removing these files is futile, as they will come back, as you have observed.
If you are seeing them on your Mac, that means you have changed settings so that your Mac is showing invisible files in the Finder. To reverse that, run the following command in the Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
This will hide them, and any other invisible files, from view.
If you are seeing them on a Windows machine, just ignore them. They're not doing any harm.
If you found a Terminal command that is supposed to stop them from being created, I would be extremely skeptical as to the wisdom of running it.

If you open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup, are you able to access the settings for the Time Capsule?
Or, does AirPort Utility scan for the Time Capsule and then not find it?

As far as we can see the error "com.sapportals.wcm.repository.ResourceNotFoundException" is telling that the resource you are trying to delete could not be found, that is also to say, it might not exist any more.
So please let me know exactly how you can reproduc this issue?
and what kind of file it is? under what kind of KM repository?
Is there any other file under the same KM folder?
Also you can reproduce the issue and then check the lastest defaulttrace file under this folder:
../j2ee/cluster/server0/log/defaultTrace.*.trc
here you can find the detailed exception.

I have a toshiba external hard disk. When i plug it into my macbook air, i can only see my documents and copy them to the macbook or copy files from macbook to hard disk. But i can't delete any file on my external disk. How can i can do it?

It sounds like you originally used this drive with a Windows PC. Drives formatted as Windows NTFS can be read by a Mac but not written to (files cannot be deleted). If you want to keep the files that are on the drive, you can use Paragon NTFS (it's about $20) to install a driver allowing your Mac to write to the drive and delete files. This will allow you to continue to use the drive with both Mac and PC.
Or, if you have copied off all the files you need, you can use Disk Utility in your Utilities folder to wipe and reformat the drive to Mac format. You will no longer be able to use the drive with a PC.

About TM "Backup Drive is Full"
Alert TM only deletes older files if they have been deleted from the source and when TM needs space on the backup drive for a new incremental backup. Time Machine "thins" it's backups; hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first of the day; those "daily" backups over 30 days old, except the first of the week. The weeklies are kept as long as there's room.
So, how long a backup file remains depends on how long it was on your Mac before being deleted, assuming you do at least one backup per day. If it was there for at least 24 hours, it will be kept for at least a month. If it was there for at least a week, it will be kept as long as there's room.
Note, that on a Time Capsule the sparsebundle grows in size as needed, but doesn't shrink. Thus, from the user's view of the TC it appears that no space has been freed, although there may be space in the sparsebundle.
Once TM has found it cannot free up enough space for a new backup it reports the disk is full. You can either erase the backup drive and start your backups anew or replace the drive with a larger drive. You can also use the Time Machine application to selectively remove files, but that may be ineffective if you have to free up GBs of space.

But to answer the question you asked, if you want to delete files that are not on the C drive, select the files and then delete them (press the Delete key, and then Delete from Hard Disk or not, your choice)

Put a Photo in the iPhoto Trash.
iPhoto Menu -> Empty Trash
This removes the photo from iPhoto and the Hard Disk (in every version of iPhoto except iPhoto11)
In iPhoto 11 the file goes to the System Trash, you need to empty that too.

Actually I'm really facing a very strange situation..
It happened that I have a file that all the permissions it has is that it can be read by its owner..
and to make it even more odd, the owner is 'root'...
I can't figure a way to remove this file, but I really have to..
It all started when I tried to remove a probable virus file from a 'ntfs' partition..
but when I mounted this partition, I found that I can't delete this file...
Oh, I forgot to say that I couldn't delete it from windows either, so ???
Any help is appreciated ..

Ok, so go for installing ntfs-3g.
Now mount the partition to a directory called /windows.
You can chown the owner of the entire partition recursively with the -R switch. For example:
su to root
su
make a mount directory
mkdir /windows
backup fstab before editing
cp /etc/fstab /etc/fstab_backup
open fstab with nano
nano fstab
copy and paste this code (change hda1 to your windows partition) Then "ctrl+X" to exit "Y" to save and "Enter" to quit.

mount all partitions
mount -a
change owbnership to root, recursively, every single file (may take a few minutes)
chown -R root:root /windows
add write permissions, recursively, every single file (may take a few minutes)
chmod -R 755 /windows
Now go and delete the file. If you can't delete the file I would really like some further information on what virus it is/was, as I have never had any Windows file which I couldn't remove as root.
PS: If you have "System Restore" enabled on Windows, disable it and delete it. It's the first place where all the nasties go to hide, and then reinfect the system later.
