I bet that question came up already, but I can't easily find any reference to it. Anyways, here I go.
I have a desktop @ home with 1TB of disk space, and I'm using a Macbook Pro as my work laptop. I'd like to be able to sync up my Macbook Pro as if it was an iPod or appletv, so I can bring my music at work and even sync my movies when I travel.
Is that possible using iTunes and if not, does Apple have any plans to implement that feature? I don't want to use a 3rd party software or start playing with rsync to do that. iTunes should be able to support it.

He wants to take his laptop to work away from his home network so the itunes sharing won't work with that.

I've used that and it gives you access to your library. Gotta have an internet connection but its easier than copying songs back and forth all the time.

Locate them in the Windows Explorer, move or copy those files as you would any other, and drag them into the open iTunes window when the second library is loaded. If you're using two iTunes libraries on one user account, you only need to locate the files; otherwise, they need to be put in a shared area.

My entire music library is on my external hard drive. I'm going away for the summber and obviously I can't take my iMac with me. But I've got PB. And, I'd like to open my music library in my PB exactly like I do on my iMac, i.e. same play count, same import date, etc... The reason I ask this is because the only way I know how to open the music library on another computer, is to import the entire library again, which will not retain all that information (play count, etc). So, how do I do that?

Here's the trick. On your PB, Rename your user/music/iTunes folder (something like iTunesb or anything similar). When you launch iTunes, it will freak out and tell you that it can't find your music library and ask you to "point to" the correct location. From there simply navigate to your iTunes folder on your ext. drive and bingo..... Of course, this means that you must have the drive mounted whenever you launch iTunes. Also, you will have to "authorize" the PB to play your purchased music.

After installing iTunes on the spare laptop I copied the backup music library to the iTunes music folder. However, when I start itunes, nothing shows up in iTunes. This has probably been discussed but several searches have not found how to recover this. Does anyone know what the process is?

I forgot to mention that she has a PC at her house that she also syncs to. Would this cause a problem. I am already getting that pop up saying that the iPod is synced to another library (even though she is signed in with her Apple ID to iTunes) and gives the pop up to Cancel, Erase & Sync, or Transfer Purchases. My question arose because she clicked on "Erase & Sync" by mistake when she plugged the iPod to her PC the first time. When the iPod was purchased and setup, it was synced to my PC first. When she went home, she hooked it up to her PC and then she erased it by accident. I was able to restore all the missing stuff yesterday using my PC. However, even after doing that it still told me the next time I hooked it up last night that the iPod was currently synced with a different library. Hopefully, you can help me understand all this. I want to buy a MacBook Air but the flash storage means not enough space for all my movies and music. Instead of carrying around an extra harddrive, I'd rather make the Time Capsule my external harddrive. Most of the time when I access it it will be from my house, but say I'm just out and about and connected to the internet...assuming my Time Capsule is on, can I use it as basically a cloud device and stream my iTunes movies and music to my computer?

Probably not unless you have a super speed internet connection.. most people on adsl have 1mbit upload connection or less. you cannot stream movies over 1mbit.. I doubt you can even stream music. Actual throughput is only 800kbit/s...
That is why you store things in the cloud.. you download speed from cloud is much high than upload to it.
That is unless you have a super high speed, fibre connection to your home??
It is certainly possible.. if you have enough bandwidth.. 99.999% of people don't.

Either way. If you want to delete the current library and start a new one with the new songs, you can. If you'd prefer to add the new songs to the existing library, and then delete the current songs, you can do that too.
As long as you don't delete the songs that you want, you will be able to use iTunes.
