Can you edit asl files?

Is there a way to easily edit .asl log files? Obviously, one can guess at it by viewing the binary in vi or other editor, but is there a cleaner way?
Thanks

I too would like to know if there is a way to edit asl files.

  • Can you edit AVCHD files for length & keep them AVCHD?

I shoot video on a Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder that records in AVCHD.  I usually import these files into an event in FCPX and create optimized media when doing so.  Then, when I archive the project, I delete the optimized files and just keep the AVCHD files (which makes the project archive much, much smaller).
I shot some video the other day but forgot to stop the recording at the end of about 30 minutes of footage.  This resulted in the camera recording until it filled the 32 GB card.  And I was shooting from 4 angles with 4 different cameras, so I got more than 100 GB of useless footage.
I'd like to trim the AVCHD files themselves so that I can get rid of the 3 1/2 hours of footage I shot by mistake, and make the AVCHD files much smaller.  Can I do that?  How would I do that?
The only thing I can think of is to import the entire files into FCPX, transcode them into optimized video, then trim the resulting ProRes 422 .mov files down in a timeline, and export them.  But then I think that I'd lose some quality in the process (of trimming, exporting, and reimporting them), and I'd be archiving .mov files (which I don't want to do because they are so large).
    I'd appreciate any advice.

first, AVCHD is no video 'format', but mainly a file and folder structure standard. Within that, wrapped as 'mts', you'll find h264 encoded video. which leads to ....
second, h264 is no lossless format. even plain cuts makes a re-encoding neccessary, which 'multiplies' compression errors/loss.
    imho, you have two options:
    • import wisely FCPX allows to select on AVCHD import - no need to 'swallow' the fulll 16Gs of a card, if you need just 10min here and 20sec there, import these parts. … but even 'parts' are probably bigger in file size than original recordings.-
    • if you dig deeper into your AVCHD files (cmd-click/Show Package Content), you'll notice, a single 1h recording is chopped into many mts files. you could identify the 'empty' ones, erase them, and give the free tool AVCCAM Restorer a chance to re-enact a standard compliant AVCHD-structure (=erasing some mts inside an AVCHD 'axes' the whole thing!).
Try with a test recording! Test with a copy! This is a workaround! .... no guarantee, it works.

  • Can you edit text after saving your file as pdf

I have recently created a letterhead in Illustrator.
Is there a way to change a person name and title after saving it as a pdf file? I heard something about creating a form in Acrobat professsional.
I need to print out a letterhead with different peoples name and title. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can you edit the text in Acrobat Reader?
Yes, if you use Acrobat Pro to save the PDF as a Reader-enabled form.
    1. Create your letterhead in Illustrator (or whatever). Leave design space for, but do not create text objects that you want to be editable.
    2. Save as PDF.
    3. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro. Use Acrobat's Form tools to add text fields whereever you want the end users to be able to key text.
    4. Select the Enable Reader Usage Rights command in Acrobat to make the form fields edtiable in Reader. Save the file.
Recipients of the PDF can now open it in Reader, edit the content of the fields, and save the file with their edits.

WHAT KIND OF FILES CAN YOU EDIT IN IMOVIE!

The PCMCIA digital TV tuner card I have is the Formac Watchandgo which I purchased here for the equivalent of around US$50:
    http://www.formac.com/webapp/productsavwatchandgo.php
However, it is only usable in countries which use the PAL TV system (such as Europe and here in Australia).
I’m not familiar with the American NTSC TV system, or what TV tuners might be available. You will probably find most tuners are USB these days.

  • Nikon D90 footage: Can you edit natively in Final Cut?

Just wondering if anyone has been using the new Nikon D90 to shoot video, and then importing the footage natively into FCP6. The camera's video-recording format, from what I have read, is 720p24, an .avi file, and a Motion JPEG codec.
I see that in the settings for a Final Cut sequence, you can choose 1280X720 frame size, a true 24 frames per second rate, and either a Motion JPEG A or Motion JPEG B compressor. It seems like with these settings, you could put your footage into the timeline and not have to render it before editing . . . unless the .avi file format goofs it up. Can you edit .avi in Final Cut natively, or do you have to use a Quicktime file?
    Any workflow advice much appreciated,
    Jim

No, sorry to say, I do not own the camera. And in looking around the web for an original, as-shot-by-the-D90 clip to experiment with, the only ones I found were at this site:
    http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08090101nikond90samplegallery.asp
They were billed as: D90 sample movie 1 • original .AVI format • 21 seconds, 35.7 MB
    and: D90 sample movie 3 • original .AVI format • 9 seconds, 24.5 MB
So I downloaded them, imported them into Final Cut, and they showed up with settings in the browser of: 1280X720 and 24 fps (so far so good) but then a compressor setting of "Apple OpenDML JPEG" rather than what I was expecting, Motion JPEG, which is what the D90 spec is. If the clip was truly "original .AVI format," I would have expected the compressor setting to be Motion JPEG.
Then, when I tried to change the sequence settings to Apple OpenDML JPEG, I found that there is no such setting. My thought was if the size, 1280X720, the frame rate, 24, and the compressor settings all matched, you could edit natively. And when I dragged the clip into the timeline, it did not give me a dialogue box asking if I would like the sequence settings to match the clip, the way it does with some footage.
Yes, you can render the clip and then edit it, but it would be great to avoid that step. Anyway, I got the red bar in the timeline with every combination of sequence compressor settings I tried, maybe 10 of them.
So maybe the answer is some time is needed for Final Cut to support the D90's Motion JPEG files natively, though I believe that is an older codec. Too bad the D90 does not record in something like DVCPRO HD. For a $1000 camera, the image quality looks pretty good, and the shallow depth of field really turned my head. I was thinking it might be a cheap Red Rock or Letus killer.
    Thanks for the input,
    Jim

Can you edit raw photos in photo shop 11?

    Hi,
Are you talking about photoshop elements 11 or photoshop cs4?
You can edit camera raw files with both of the above, but it might depend on the camera the raw files came from.
What operating system are you using?
Which camera are the raw files from?

  • I purchased PDF pack and can't edit my files

I can't edit PDF file. What do I do?

    Hi eagle9454,
I am happy to help. But, I need a little more information. Have you converted PDF files to Word or another format, and are unable to edit those files? Or, were you hoping to edit PDF files with Adobe PDF Pack (which is something that it can't do)?
Please let me know a bit more about the trouble that you're having, and we will get you pointed in the right direction.
    Best,

  • Can't edit any files anymore - DTR is grayout in NWDS

    Hi Experts,
For some reason I can't edit any files anymore, i.e. when right click on order.jsp, DTR is grayout. Seems like it happened after I reinstalled NWDS and reimported projects. I tried Sync sources, it did not help.
    Any suggestions / advises?
    Thanks, Jin

    Hi,
Right now do you have any open activities? If so, is it on the same jsp file?
If you have a open activity, obviously you will not edit option for the same file again.
If that is not the case, there might be an update in your track. You need to perform "Update Configuration" on your track. go to Inactive Dc's -> Right click on your track and select "Update Configuration".
You can also try, Closing and re opening the NWDS and logging in to NWDI again.
    Hope this helps!
    Regards,
    Jaya.

  • Can FCP6 edit avi files?  FCE 3.5 does.

Can FCP6 edit avi files?  FCE 3.5 does.  I have Quicktime 7.6.2.   If I go to more recent Quicktine will  Final Cut Pro6 edit avi clips?  Thanks for any help.  It's confusing because my Final Cut Express does edit avi.

Thanks for the reply.  Yes, FCE 3.5 does handle .AVI without rendering, the same as if it was a .mov. I just tried it to make sure I wasn't imagining it.  I don't understand how you would render it in FCP before working with it.  An AVI just shows up as black frames. And once you work with it wouldn't it become surrendered? I've been using QuickTime to convert from AVI to mov.  Is that the bet way.  I'm using 1080p video.  I wonder why dcs will do AVI, but not fcp??  Thanks again.

  • How can i edit pdf files ?

how can i edit pdf files ?

What kind of "editing" operations do you have in mind?
You can add/delete/change annotations (such as Sticky Notes or Highlight/Strikeout/Underline text markups) or fill out forms in Adobe Reader.  Some people (mistakenly) call it "editing".  But, strictly speaking, it is not.
Because Adobe Reader is a PDF viewer, you are not able to edit the content of PDF documents.  For example, you cannot
    add/edit images or text
    insert/delete/extract pages
    convert PDF from/to other formats
You need a PDF editor such as Adobe Acrobat Pro or Standard, which is not a free product.

  • Hi sir im using fcp 7 for video editing in i mac, how can i edit mts files in fcp 7 without log n transfer, is their solution for fcp 7?

Hi sir im using fcp 7 for video editing in i mac, how can i edit mts files in fcp 7 without log n transfer, is their solution for fcp 7?

    >No, you are not right.
Going to question the biggest contributor to this forum?  (Yes, my ego is talking).  OK then...
    >Install the QT-Plugin, restart your Mac and you will be able to import and use .mts files in FCP 7.
Sure...yes, that makes it POSSIBLE to read the files natively in FCP...if they come from a Panasonic camera. BUT...just try working with those files.  Right away the system won't be nearly as responsive as it would if they were ProRes. First...there are no sequence settings for that format...so you'll have to use ProRes and have a green render bar.  BUT, that's no big deal.  The big deal is trying to work with the AVCHD format, which is VERY processor intensive...inside an application that doesn't like to work with much outside of the FCP editing codecs.
Is it possible? Sure? Will it work well...will you be as zippy and error free as if you converted to ProRes? Not by a long shot.  OH, but don't just take my word for it.  Go ahead...try it and see.  No skin off my nose...no waste of my time.  See how well this works.
I'm just here to relate real world working solutions to issues.  And yes, I did try that plugin, and boy, was editing a pain.

  • Can you transfer picture files from an older version of aperture to aperture 3?

Can you transfer picture files from an older version of aperture to aperture 3?

Well, you didn't give any information on your Mac, your OS version, transfer pics from where to where, or anything else, so guessing is the best anyone can do at this point: you should be able to simply using drag and drop.
