Can you enable Intel VT-x and EPT on macbook pro 3,1

Hi,
Has this problem still ongoing?

Hi,
I use the same kind of MacBook Pro but am also a newbie. So maybe I can give some hints.
1) To automatically load a module, edit /etc/rc.conf and add the name of the module to the MODULES list.
2) Did you add pommed to the DAEMONS list of /etc/rc.conf ? Works for me perfectly.
3) I just strictly followed the Beginners Guide of the wiki.
- added !snd_pcsp to MODULES in rc.config
- installed alsa-utils
- installed alsa-oss
- added myself to the audio group
- invoked alsamixer to unmute channels
4) It can be configured in some files located at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ . I've never looked into that because I use an external mouse.
Hope some of that helps,
Viv

  • Can you upgrade the RAM on a Retina Display Macbook Pro?

So I've been looking around for information on whether the RAM on a Retina Macbook Pro can be upgraded and the mixed messages have left me confused. If I take my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) to an Apple store for a RAM upgrade and offer to pay them for the RAM and installation, would they do it for me?
Thanks and if you can't, please explain why.
I am aware that the RAM is soldered into the motherboard making it very difficult to perform the upgrade, but will some stores actually do it for you?

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is soldered onto the logic board, so RAM can't be added without replacing the logic board.
I know there are shops that may try to add more RAM without replacing the logic board, but they aren't official resellers and if something happens, the warranty will be voided. Apple won't do it.
If you want, you can sell your MacBook Pro and get another one with more RAM. It's the best way to do it, because I don't think you want to spend a lot of money replacing the logic board or you want to take it to a non-official technical support, putting the Mac in risk

  • Can you migrate just one file(iPhoto) to a MacBook Pro?

How do you migrate from a MacAir to. New 13 in MacBook Pro the iPhoto file, everything else came thru Icloud

    Yes, you can.
The iPhoto Library contains all your iPhoto contents, it's in your Pictures folder on the account on the MacAir.
If you just want one photo out, then you can right click on iPhoto Library and "show package contents" and inside is a fodler called Originals, open that and locate your picture and copy it over.
You also can export via the iPhoto program on the Air.
Use a external drive or USB thumb drive depending how much you have.

As a note, just because your iTunes may have come through iCloud doesn't mean it's safe, supposedly someone here deleted their old machine data and thus all the newer machines iTunes music disappeared....

  • Can you upgrade the hard drive on the new MacBook pro?

i Am buying a new MBP 13" but need to know if the hard drive can upgraded easily in the future if I need a larger drive.

Actually you can.   The SSD is a PCie blade type SSD, and although you'll need to dissamble the MacBook, replacement is possible on a 2014 MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Retina+Display+Mid+2014+SSD+Rep lacement/27849
It will void the warranty if you attempt this though.
RAM on the other hand is soldered to the Logic board.

  • Can you do a test for me on your Macbook Pro?

I'm using the latest 2.4 Macbook Pro with 2Gm RAM, so would be great if you had a similar setup. But a slightly different one would get me helpful results as well.

Well your Geekbench score looked pretty normal.
My best guess is that perhaps when using xslimmer to strip out architectures (which I really don't advise anyway) you might have knackered something without realising it.
Your hardware performance looks generally ok, so I would go for an OSX/Logic reinstall to rule that out. I reckon that very probably will fix it. Stop putting it off, bite the bullet and do it.
If it doesn't, I'd take it in to get looked...
(Also, wasn't sure if you'd checked this, but select the Logic Pro application in the finder and do a get info. Make sure the "Open using Rosetta" checkbox isn't ticked.)

  • Can you downgrade from Snow Leopard to Leopard if MacBook Pro is shipped with SNL

I have recently purchased a MBP with 10.6.8 already installed but it came with no disks and i wish to fromat to get it truley cleaned up. I have my shop bought Leopard i pruchased for my Imac and my leopard disks that came with a later MB, when i insert the leopard disk when booted it reads ok hit the install button MBP reboots but just sits with white/blue screen and nothing happens. Tried rebooting and holding C still nothing happens apart from the MBP does not boot up but hangs. Tried pressing alt at boot up and the option to choose the disk appears I select it nothing happens yet the mouse no longer moves, it just sits there. The disk is fine as i used it to reformat a friends MB 1 hour before i attempted mine.
So if the MBP came with SNL already installed can you not roll back to leopard, or is there something I'm missing.
model: 15.4 MBP 2.8ghz core duo 500hdd 4gb ram etc...

    Hi all
Ok so I went ot the local Apple shop and they have stopped stocking SNL but advised i can download Lion and install and even though it didn't format i could when installed boot to the recovery partion -utilities and erase from there and then do a full install thus allowing a full format.
So erase done click install lion and it connected to the net and then sat for some time so what i'm asking is does this now have to down load the 4gb image again. I assumed it installed from the partition but will it download and install if so this could take some time as the Lion download took approx 8 hours.
Please tell me that is not the case as that is seriously flawed and left me in a dodgy position as i have erased my hdd and will have to wait till i can get a day off to run the next install.
as a foot note i was advised to copy the image and then burn so i would have a hard copy i did this would it be quicker to do it from thi disc.
    thanks in advance

  • Can you enable AHCI in Windows 7 on a MacBook Air 11"?

i know people have enabled AHCI in MB Pro's. there's a bunch of information regarding that laptop. i've tried to follow those directions but AHCI just won't turn on. i'm wondering if the PCI IDE Controller just doesn't support AHCI or if i'm doing something wrong.
does anyone have any information regarding this matter?
    thanks in advance.

Apple uses a proprietary extensions for perfectly standart, even a bit outdated base EFI. Big difference with proprietary efi. Just for you to know - you can grab (opensorced, standart) UEFI, compile it yourself in MS Visual Studio under windows and Apple's extensions will perfectly load into it at runtime.
    I'd recommend you read this:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463525
    exactly pay attention to this:
    * The GUID Partition Table (GPT) was introduced as part of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) initiative.
    and than - this:
Windows XP x64 Edition can use GPT disks for data only.
The 32-bit version will see only the Protective MBR. The EE partition will not be mounted or otherwise exposed to application software.
Starting with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, all versions of Windows Server can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions on Itanium-based systems.
Can Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 read, write, and boot from GPT disks?
Yes, all versions can use GPT partitioned disks for data. Booting is only supported for 64-bit editions on UEFI-based systems.
Last one sounds good, yes? Actually no:
    Windows GPT Required Partitions
    EFI System Partition
What is the Extensible Firmware Interface System Partition (ESP)?
The ESP contains the NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt, and other files… blabla
Do you really think that NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt are parts of OS-independent UEFI standart?
Can there be two ESPs on a single disk?
Such a configuration should not be created and is not supported in Windows.
So Apple just can not create special win-specific partition for Windows to load directly - it just does not support it
    Microsoft Reserved Partition
    What disks require an MSR?
Every GPT disk must contain an MSR. The order of partitions on the disk should be ESP (if any), OEM (if any) and MSR followed by primary data partition(s). It is particularly important that the MSR be created before other primary data partitions.
Do you really think that Microsoft Reserved Partition is a part of OS-independent GUID GPT standart?
    Q.          Who creates the MSR?
The MSR must be created when disk-partitioning information is first written to the drive. If the manufacturer partitions the disk, the manufacturer must create the MSR at the same time.
So for windows to boot directly, Apple should themselves create windows non-standard partition on every mac sold.
And, furthermore, it (Apple) have to install NTLDR, HAL, Boot.txt and other MS crap on every mac. Paying license fee for that.
It's not my fantasies - it's open data from Windows Hardware Developer Center > Learn > Devices > Storage Technologies > Windows and GPT FAQ of MS itself.
And same story you can find about UEFI support on Windows. Non-standard things required here and there.
Do you know that Linux can boot on macs directly, as it doesn't require some MSR sh*t and such?
There are a lot of things to blame Apple, but not this one

  • Can no longer do "pinch open and close" on MacBook Pro trackpad

Macs have a trackpad function where you can enlarge or reduce the size of the image in a window by using two fingers sweeping apart or together. (pinch open-close)
With the installation of Firefox 4, I lost this functionality.

  • Probook 640 bios - Enable Intel VT-x and disable trusted execution for VMWare

With the Probook 640, can someone please explain, step by step, how I would make the proper settings in the bios for VMWare virtualization?  I need to enable Intel VT-x and disable trusted execution.Thank you.

    randallto wrote:
There was another setting in bois I found that required scrolling in the bios screen. Tricky to find with no mouse.
I am not sure if some day these terminologies can be standardized so someone can follow very specific instructions rather than vague instructions that are further obfuscated with the use of technical acronyms.
That is the problem, that error message in VM is not explicit enough as to what steps to take to correct the problem. These bois screen authors decide arbitrarily to name settings as it relates to their world personally and there are not standards.
I still don't know how that  got changed in the first place but that is not an issue with VM ware as to what else is changing the setting.
Do you have any explicit suggestions as to how the error message can be improved?

How can i enable both paired bluetooth and ios keyboard input at the same time?
This is needed for the app im working on. Need some user input via keypad as well as scanner input via a paired bluetooth scanner.

You probably should not be using a keyboard bluetooth profile for a scanner, I am not a developer for apple so do not know the location for you to find out the correct profile you should be using for an input device that is not a keyboard. Sorry,
I am sure if you navigate the apple developer site you will probaly finmd what you're looking for.

  • How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

I've noticed in AIR 2.7 for Android, that now the bottom icons in Android 3.0 Honeycomb are hidden (replaced by small dots) in AIR 2.7, whereas in AIR 2.6 they were always visible. That's cool. Since the bottom bar can never be hidden in Android 3, at least now those icons are less visible (unless you intentionally touch the bottom bar, then the icons show up for a few seconds).
BUT I also noticed in AIR 2.7 compiled apps, the native "Menu" icon is not visible anymore, even after touching the bottom bar. In AIR 2.6 you could see and press that button (which can be captured from AIR so you can show a custom settings menu or whatever).
So, quoting the subject --> How can you enable back the Android native Menu button in AIR 2.7?

There is a work around and a reason for the menu issue.  Honeycomb doesn't natively support a menu softkey, it is only to support old apps comiled in phone API levels.  If you compile a Honeycomb app in 2.7 or 3.0, it is expected you manage the settings within the larger tablet UI framework.  See below link for more info and work around.
