Can you generate a Table of Contents using bookmarks?

Hi,
I am a newbie to InDesign and am probably missing the obvious but...
I am creating a document in InDesign and want to generate a Table of Contents. I have just created a de facto ToC with Bookmarks for the exported PDF version of the file, but there seems to be no way to take this information and use it to creat an actual ToC in the ID file itself. My bookmark list contains the information for all the chapter and sub headings along with the page locations, all the data I need to create my ToC, but I can't find a way to do this. I don't understand why I have to use paragraph styles to set this up? It is overly complicated for my needs, added to that it is duplicating my work. If I have to set up paragraph styles for the print version and bookmarks for the PDF version, why can't one set of information be used to generate both version of a Toc?

You don't consider 100 pages a long doc? Ouch. If it needs a TOC, I'd say that's pretty definitive for it being long.
I know users who set up styles for even one-page projects. I figure it's worth setting up a style for any formatting that will repeat more than twice, regardless of document length. It's pretty fast using the format/select/define style method of formatting text the way you want, then selecting it and choosing "New Style" from the appropriate panel.

If I create a pdf portfolio that contains multiple documents (e.g. Word, multiple PDFs and Excel documents), is there a way to create a table of contents at the beginning of the portfolio to help navigate to the individual documents?

Hi,
The Files list displays a list of files, so the user can quickly see all the files in the portfolio with any information you want to share; title, description, file type, size etc.
Or, you can also use a different layout, for example, the Linear and use the space next to each file to describe it.

Generating a PDF Table of Contents Using DDX - DDX puts the string "cover" in all caps

When using DDX to generate a table of contents for a PDF, I discovered that DDX puts the string "cover" in all caps. For example, the item:
<PDF source="something" bookmarkTitle="Hard Drive Recovery"/>
will result in the table of contents entry "Hard Drive ReCOVERy".
Does anyone know of a way to prevent or work around this?

I am curious about this, mainly because, for me, the 'bookmarkTitle' attribute causes an error when the DDX is assembled.
I have CF9.0.1 running on Windows 7 but this also happened on CF9.0

I cannot generate a table of contents in INDesign3

Hi There:
I'm fairly new to Indesign CS3 and I need to generate a table of contents. I created a book file which consists of 20 chapters. I also created a Frontmatter file, which is also part of the book file. According to the help menu, I should open up the FM file and choose, LAYOUT>TABLE OF CONTENTS to begin. However this option under layout doesn't exist. Is there a plug-in I am missing. HELP! I need to generate this TOC at some point today.

As far as I know, it should be there always unless the menus themselves have been turned off by someone. Might as well check though.
1) GO to Edit > Menus (opens Menu Customization)
2) Select Application Menus from the Category field
3) Expand "Layout" under Application Menu Command and make sure the Visibility icon is active for the TOC items (at bottom)
edit: Of course you could also go to Window > Workspace and select reset menus

Table of contents using cfdocument

I've been trying to create a table of contents using
cfdocument. I've been unsuccessful in extracting the page number
out of the document. I know they are reserved for that scope, but
i've tried copying the value into an application variable and
accessing it on a different page to no avail. I've tried to
increment a basic counter, can't seem to get that to work either.
If anyone has any experience in this, please help me out.

I'm not sure you understood my post. I was able to do exactly as you did -- create a master page with a frame and the section marker character (which shows as "section" on the master page) and then add the actual marker text in the numbering and section options. The correct text appears on the live document page.
When I tried to make a TOC the text was not picked up UNTIL I selected and overrode that master frame onto the document page (Ctrl + Shift + Click on Windows or Cmd + Shift + Click on Mac on the frame you want to override). Once overridden, the text appeared as expected in the TOC.
You are correct about the page number for that page. You can use a different master without a page number, or you can override and delete the number frame from the master page. I presume you will either use a different master for the first page and following pages of any section to avoid having the marker appear on all pages, or you can override only the first page so that you don't repeat entries in the TOC for every page in each section. If you are using the Section Marker as a running header you might want to read about Running Header Variables in the Help files instead. In many ways the use of a variable might be simpler and more straightforward.

Hi Vivek,
To you may create on demand sub report.
In main report only the link will be shown when you click on the link the sub report will be opened in a new tab.
It can be placed in a Group header and to show the data for that particular group only.
Click on the Help menu in the crystal Reports Designer and open the Crystal Reports Help
Go to Index tab and type in subreport
Select Creating On demand you will get lot of information on that.
Please let us know if that is enough to solve your problem

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.

Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached. Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

The find my iphone app has nothong to do with it.
That app simply allow you to find other devices using your ipod. It has nothing to do with fining the device on which it is installed.
If you set up the find my ipod feature that is built into your ipod and the ipod is on and it is connected to wi-fi and it has not been restored, then you may be able to get an approximate street address using icloud.
Othrewise, it cannot be tracked.

hmm, that's a trick one! what I would do is go to Messages>preferences>accounts and then select imessages and then select account details and then sign out. Then your wife will need to sign in with her apple id.

simply adding both of your accounts to be reached at will prove to be faulty because when you reply you can only reply with the one email address. And even if you switch caller id's it probably still won't work. So I think my method would be the easiest way to do that at this time.
