Built-in Screen Sharing should work with Remote Destop on he PC.
If you know the IP of the PC, try this...
In finder, select Go menu>Connect to Servers..., type in vnc://ip.of.another.computer, like...
vnc://10.0.1.5
vnc://192.168.1.3
Or Browse networks & if you find the PC, choose Screen Sharing button.

So, I am currently using my wife's old iPhone 4S. When I get a text message, my phone alerts me. When I am in the open the text and reply, no problem. The issue os that after I reply and I am in the THREAD, there is NO alert if the person replies. Can I change this so I can receive an alert? Thanks!

Can I use a VPN and a Remote Desk Top on my Mac?
I am on the market for a new lap top. I would like to get a Mac Pro, but most of my work is done via remote desk top through a VPN connection with my company. Everything is supported by Windows and PC servers and there are no Mac computers being used in the company now. My IT manager doesn't know if there is compatibility with a Mac being able to interface with our system. Is there a simple solution here?
I have a similar situation as you for work. Here is what I use:
1) I have MS Office 2011 installed. It comes with a remote desktop application that works perfectly with other Windows systems (XP and 7). I can connect to multiple PCs at work from home with no problems so far.
2) We use the Juniper VPN clent with an RSA key to connect to our network through a tunnel. This has worked just fine. -

they do have ports open and have requested that everyone connect to the remote desk top- everyone else in my class has connected fine- but my instructor cant explain how to do it for me- cuz im the only one with a mac.

Thank you for your response. My operating system is XP. When I try to open a pfd document I just get a series of letters and symbols in a dialog box. The top of the box says "select the encoding that makes your document readable". I can choose Windows, MS-Dos, or other (there is a long list to choose from). None seem to make a difference. If I save the document to my desk top I can right click on it and choose an option "Open with AdobeReader 9" and it opens fine.

What operating system does your computer use? What happens when you attempt to open a PDF document rather than saving it first? Please include any/all error messages. Also, have you tried opening documents from other locations or just one in particular?

My screen sharing functionality did not show up in the dock with an updated icon. It had a question mark- shows my connections but nothing works, I did make sure screen sharing is on and also connected to VPN. Once I tried to launch screen sharing nothing happens. Such an elegant solution in Mavericks not does not work. Ugh. Help!

I believe the location of the "Screen Sharing" app has changed, which explains why if you had it in the dock it has been replaced by a ?
Don't forget you can launch screen sharing (once your VPN connection is up) by typing in the Safari destination slot vnc://remotemachinename:portnumber (omit the :port number if you are using the default VNC port, 5900). This should launch Screen Sharing and put its icon in the dock. You can drag the Screen Sharing icon to the left of your dock and it will hopefully remain there after you exit Screen Sharing, or you can right-click on the icon when it's running and select Options->Show in Finder to find out its new location and drag its icon to the permanent entries in your dock.

I have a DHMTL page with a panel that I want to slide back and forth. But another part of the requirement is to have the panel look like it is sliding under another panel.
The problem is that an applet is on the panel that slides. When the sliding panel move under the stationary panel the applet does not go under the stationary panel, but the reset of the sliding panel does render looking like it is sliding under.

Are you referring to the Dock?
If so, go to the Apple menu > Dock and select "Turn hiding off".
If you are referring to individual icons on the Dock, right-click or Control-click on the icon, and in the Options submenu in the popup that appears, select "Keep in Dock". -

the adobe organiser screen all works fine. I just can't get to the top of the page! I can broaden and narrow the screen, but not get to the top of the page.If the issue is only happening with Elements, then please either post in an Adobe Elements forum or contact Adobe directly for support.

ThanksWhile it CAN be done I don't know if you'll see enough bang for your buck to make it worthwhile. IMO you'll get a better return by installing an SSD and maxing out the ram. That said I don't have any idea which cpu you could swap for.
