Can you have a photo without a background?
I would like to insert a photo of a person or object in which the background has been erased and maintain that transparency when inserted (ie not have an opaque white background when against a color). Is this possible in Pages 2?

Hello Walt,
there is the mask option in Pages to show only areas of images you want to show. It is for portraits a bit of work because of the hair most people have. But for objects (and most portraits) this works fine:
Insert the image and choose the menu item "Insert > Shape > Draw a Shape" (at the bottom of the menu). Now click and drag to draw a outline surrounding what you want to see in rough accurance and click onto the first handle to end the line creation. Than adjust the line with the handles to have a nice outline. After finish, make sure the object has no fill color, select both (line object and image) and use the menu item "Format > Mask With Shape".
To adjust the shown area, you can select the visible part with a double-click and move the masked image or the mask shape. With a double-click onto the mask shape outline you can adjust the mask.
Sometimes this is easier and faster for masking, then masking with an image editor. But sometimes the transparent PNG or PSD has better optical quality.

As Ocean20 indicates, you want to make sure that you have automatic syncing turned off. In iTunes Preferences under Devices, make sure you have "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" checked. Then connect each iPhone, and make sure that "Manually Manage Music and Videos" is checked on the Info page for each of them. Then go into each page for each device, and select what you want to sync to that particular device. (you would do this one device at a time - complete the steps for one of the phones, then connect the next one and do the same thing).
With this kind of setup, you can modify what will sync at any given time for a particular device once you have connected it to iTunes, but before you click on the Sync button at the bottom of the screen. If you want to change some sync options on a particular device, you would just go into the page you wanted to change (Music, Photos, Apps, etc.), make your changes, and then Sync.
If you do not have any changes, you can just hook up the phone and click on Sync.

I can't import my photos from my digital camera (Sony) to my iPad, this problem is recent. I have imported photos without problem a problem before. Is this problem due to the IOS 6 update? How can I fix it?
I have the same problem and apple needs to fix this - but in the mean time you can manually select the vertical photos then "import - import selected" and you can get your verticals. We need a better fix. THIS IS A BUG!

no completely satisfactory answer but you can :
1) email photos to yourself (tedious if you have a lot of filtered)
2) create shared file in iPhone and bring into iPhoto (and maybe Aperture - not tested yet) with filter effects
3) import to iPhoto and add effects from there (likely needs latest version to mirror iPhone filter)

Yes, I believe they do. The places data is associated with GPS coordinates tagged on each photo. I think the faces data works the same way -- it is associated with each photo regardless of what album it is in. -

I utilize WIFI sync to sync all my information....however the photos don't sync wirelessly...is that because I have version iPhoto '09 8.1.2 ? if I upgraded can I wirelessly sync over wifi or can you only use Photo Stream to synch photos and you can't do it over wifi sync?

How can I remove the photos without deleting them from the album?
I am making a book in Aperture 3. I want to change some of the pages that I have put together, and want to remove some of the photos from some of the pages, to put them on another page. How can I remove the photos without deleting them from the album?
As a follow-up, I have found that clicking on the photo in the book also highlights the photo on the strip below. So, if you then hit delete, you will delete the photo from both the book page and the album (which is the book, the way I have it set up). If you only want to delete it from the book page, you then have to un-click the photo on the strip below, or both will be deleted. This seems unwieldy. I deleted 6 photos from a page and found all of them gone from the album. The only way that I can see to keep them in the album is to then unselect them from the bottom strip after selecting them fro the page. This seems to call for an extra step.

No, in this case the 2 user accounts with its own Apple IDs would be completely seperated.
If you want to share this things like music and app purchases you will have to to something else.
1. Create two user accounts on your Mac (user A and user B).
2. Create two iCloud accounts just for Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Photos, etc. (one for user A and one for user B):
On your Mac (with Mac OS X Lion or Mountan Lion):
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > iCloud > Create an Apple ID (button in left corner)
On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (iOS 5 or later):
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account > iCloud > Get a free @me.com address and create a new Apple ID
3. It is not recommended because you shouldn't share your Apple ID account information with other people but you could set up your old Apple ID as an account just for store purchases (Apps, Music, ...) so that everyone of you can manage the purchases in their own library (Access is limited to 10 devices). Therefore you have to setup this "old" ID in Settings of your iOS devices (Settings > iTunes & App Store) and in iTunes on your Mac. -

It's unusual for a whole family to use the same icloud account, since that way everyone gets the same emails, contacts, calenders, etc. All it takes is one family member to delete a contact by mistake and then it will be deleted from everyone's devices. Not good. The usual advice is for every individual to have their own icloud account.
The iTunes store is another issue - everyone can use the same Apple ID to access the same itunes account to download music, apps, etc. without everyone having to buy the items multiple times.
