Can you have the PDF file do calculations in a fillable Acrobat PDF?

I want to create a hot lunch form for our school.  I want to be able to have the user fill in the QUANTITY, but have the form automatically multiply the quantity by the cost to and give the total amount due.  Is this possible?  Should I create the form in Excel, and then convert it into Acrobat?

Hi there, yea thats easily possible. and lots of ways to do it.
The easist way i think is as follows
1. create a field thats contains the cost of the lunch and hide it if necassary then in the total cost box;
2. double click the field with the select object tool and go to the calcualte tab (far right);
3. click the button next to  'value is the'  and change sum to product; and then
4. click the 'pick' button and choose the fields (ie quantity and price) you want to multiply and whola!
another way (and neater) is
1. Choose the 'Field' that will have the total cost in, go to the 'calculate' tab and choose 'simplified field notation' (this only works if your field doesnt contain space or special charactes)
2. click 'edit' on the right
3. type for example; quantity * 2.75
Quantity is name of field * = times and 2.75 is the price etc.
4. close dialogue box  and whola :-)
