Can you help open video chat between Tiger 10.4.11 and Snow Leopard 10.6.2?
We can get the text chat working but not the video chat. Also, her screen name shows up in my Buddy list grayed out even though she is logged into iChat.

There can be several reason for this.
Get her to Text chat to you.
Go to the Buddies Menu.
If her Screen Name is dark here (you can Add it) you misspelt her Screen Name or added her as the "Wrong" type of account in a version earlier than iChat 5
The next can be at your end or hers
In iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts > Security are several options about who can see you as being On line. (they appear Off line if you are Blocking them)
It is unlikely to be Blocking as she can contact you but it might be that she does not have you in the Allow (Specific or Allow Buddy List Only) lists.
She of course have setting made at her end and be typing in you name in the file Menu Option to start chats.
Unless you have stopped Off Line Messaging, she may be sending stuff to an Off Line Buddy at her end and getting your immediate response.
Lastly if she is using iChat 4 or 5 she can be set to Invisible.

PhilIf you don't have a backup make one now of all your own data, you can just drag your Documents folder to another disk, assuming that is where you keep your own data. Then erase the disk with Disk Utility by booting up holding cmd-r. Choose Disk Utility > Erase tab from the screen that is presented. Then install from your SL disk.

Can you help me on something? I restored my iPod and everything I had was gone. (What I Wanted) But then when I looked at my Usage It said I only have 22.5 GB Available and I Used 6.0 But I didn't. I also looked at my Backup storage and it still had all of my backup from before I restored. I deleted all my backup because it said I used all of my Backup Available. And now when I try and backup it says there is no more room or whatever to backup and Its 5/5.

Can you help me transfer music between libraries on my home network?
I am able to see libraries on different machines on my home network but cannot share music files. 'Help' says to use the Show menu at the bottom of the iTunes window, choose 'items not in my library'......
I do not see the Show menu.First make sure you have Home Sharing turned on. This won't work if you only have Library Sharing turned on. Read my post in the thread I've linked to below to learn the difference between Home Sharing, Library Sharing and how to enable them.

Can you help open Illustrator 9.0.1?
When I double click to open Illustrator, instead of Illustrator the Apple Script Script Editer opens. My computer is a Power Mac G4 running OS10.4.11. This machine with this specific version of the operating system has run this version of Illustrator sucessfully for several years ( the OS runs in the Classic mode when doing this). I do not recall purposely making any change in my hardware or software. The problem just mysteriously started one day several weeks ago. The Genius Bar folks at Apple contend that there is nothing wrong from a hardware standpoint.
I am not aware of other software problems. For instance Photoshop seems to open and run perfectly. Unknown to me has some automatic software update caused this? Incidentally I did try reinstalling the 9.0.1 software. This seemed to make no difference. This morning I tried to install version 9.0.2 just to see if it would make a difference, but the install stopped short and would not proceed.
My apologies if there is some obvious fix or work around for this. Please pass along any thoughts. Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.Thanks Mike, Scott, and Wade. I'm working on your suggestions. Sorry I'm brand new to the forum and painfully slow figuring out what I'm doing. At least I can respond on a couple of points.
When I mentioned double clicking to try to open AI I was referring to double clicking on the application in the AI folder in the Applications folder in the Finder (if I'm using the right terminology). The AI icon is no longer in the dock. It disappeared from the dock when I first started to experience the Apple Script problem.
Incidentally when I tried opening AI the first few times what opened, as I remember, was Automator. On the screen the Automator window labled "Get Specified Finder Items" had listed under "Name" - "Adobe Illustrator 9.0.1".

This seems to illustrate the idea that Apple Script is seeing Illustrator as a document. You can see the "Open with" box is showing "Script Editor." The alternatives also available but not shown are "Automator" and "Adobe Reader" neither of which actually opens AI either.
For the time being I will try again reinstalling AI. I tried it before but Apple Script still opened when I double clicked AI after the reinstall. I will also take a look at how/in what way AI may have been (unwittingly) moved. That very possibly may have been the source of the ongoing problem.

Old iWeb and Tiger to iWeb '09 and Snow Leopard - can I salvage my site?
I recently updated my operating system from Tiger to Snow Leopard. In the process I had to re-format my hard drive and so all of my data was lost, including my iWeb files (which were created on the original version of iWeb starting in 2006). I have backups, but when I just copied files onto an external hard drive I wasn't able to tell to which ones comprise my web site, and the Backups I made on Tiger don't seem to be recognized by Time Machine. Is it possible for me to salvage my web site from the backups and copied files that I have? How can I go about this? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, and happy new year!
Ethmoid, I appreciate your patience with me. The problem is that the backups made using the Backup software on my Tiger system is that they don't contain recognizable files of that kind. For example, the last backup I made specifically of my iWeb site contains only a folder called "Contents." It contains four items: a file called "backup.log.gz" and one called "Info.Plist.strings," a folder called "Backup.catalog" (containing two files, one called "cat" and one called "stat0") and another folder called "Contents" (with just one file called "Backup.sparseimage"). Any idea if any of this is possibly any good to me? Thanks again. Scott

Can I partition a new macbook air hd to run lion and snow leopard?
I have a new 2011 Macbook Air and it came with Lion. I still have some mission critical programs that are not yet compatable with Lion. Can I partition the HD (I have 256GB) and dual boot with Snow Leopard? I have the Snow Leopard upgrade disk from another Mac. Will Snow Leopard work on this machine?
No. The new MBAs require Lion and will not run Snow Leopard.

I can no longer show or delete cookies from my MacBook Pro, since installing the latest update of Safari and Itunes.. Previously, I went to the security tab and clicked on the show cookies option, then opted to delete.. That option has now diappeared and a completely different security tab appears. The tab does not show a cookies option anywhere.
Also, I can no longer see a list of my software applications without opening system profiler.

Don't install software that interferes with your system, like drivers antivirus. This low level software if fails make your system down.
MacOs has everything you need its complete, it has backup systems, antivirus system, internet security, so no need for low level thing.
In safe mode your mac don't load all this sh*t and that's is why it runs.
In finder menu go / go to the folder paste this:
/Library/StartupItems/
This must be empty, delete everything you find there.

I eventually need to combine all these files and make this as dvd. What is the best way to do it?
As far as I know, I have to use Premiere Pro and Adobe Encore.

Can you help?Go to the System/Accesability preference pane and enable the Zoom capability either with keystrokes or Magic Mouse:
