Can you hook up a Lacie Wireless Space to an Airport Express as a client?

Hello,
I haven't gotten much help from Lacie on this, but has anyone here managed to hook up a LaCie Wireless space to their Airport Express created wireless network?
I can hook up the Airport Express to a Lacie created network, but not the other way around.
I want to be able to hook up the Lacie as client in case I ever want or need to upgrade my router.
According to Lacie, I should be able to do this, but they haven't been able to tell me how.
If you know the Airport settings I need to have for this, please let me know.

The AirPort Express can "join" virtually any wireless network for use with AirTunes or a remote printer.
But....
The AirPort Express can only "extend" or "repeat" a wireless network from another Apple router.

Hello JamieLG. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
First, let's double-check your AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings...
AirPort Express Base Station Setup (AX) w/High-Speed Cable Modem
    Setup the AX
Connect to the AX's wireless network, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    AirPort tab
o Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o AirPort Network Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>
o Create a closed network (unchecked)
o Wireless Security: <your current wireless security setting: None, WEP, or WPA>
    o Channel: Automatic
    o Mode: 802.11b/g Compatible
    Internet tab
    o Connect Using: Ethernet
    o Configure: Using DHCP
    o WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
    Network tab
    o Distribute IP addresses (checked)
o Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT) (enabled)
If you have wireless security enabled, which type is it: WEP, WPA, or WPA2?

  • Can I connect Tower w/o wireless card into my Airport Express via ethernet for internet?

Greetings. I have an airport extreme sending wireless internet signal all over the house. I have a music studio computer Intel Xeon that has no wireless card in a seperate room. Am I able to configure an older Airport Express 802.11g that is connected wirelessly to the Extreme signal to connect to internet signal to my tower via the ethernet connection on the Airport Express?... i.e., connect the ethernet cable from my tower to the ethernet port on the Express to access internet signal? If so do I have to set up the Express for a certain kind of configuration that is different than, say, if I were using the airport express for airplay or a printer?
Thank you for your help. Jeff

Am I able to configure an older Airport Express 802.11g that is connected wirelessly to the Extreme signal
Unfortunately, the older AirPort Express model that you have does not have this type of capabiility.....an "n" version of the AirPort Express would be able to do what you want.
Look for a Model A1264 or Model A1392.  The A1392 is the newer version, but the A1264 would do fine.
Here I assume that you have an 802.11"n" version of the AirPort Extreme.

  • Can you hook up multiple pairs of wireless headphones to the MDR-DS6500 base unit

Can you hook up multiple pairs of wireless headphnes to the MDR-DS6500 base unit or do you need a base unit for every pair you would like to connect to your tv? if you can which models are compatible?

Do I need an AirPort to attach to each set of speakers that I want to connect, or is there another kind of receiver I can hook up to the speakers that do not have any kind of WiFi or Bluetooth configuration?
You basically have two choices: 1) Place an AirPort Express base station at each of the speaker locations, or 2) Use an AirPlay-Ready receiver that offers whole-home audio support. The latter would require that all speakers be connected back to the receiver.
Also, if I am planning to set up the airplay by using the extended network configuration, then the Wifi base station does not need to be an AirPort station? I have Fios and had trouble last time I tried to hook up an AirPort in place of the router that they provided.
The AirPlay networking protocol requires either a wireless or wired connection between the AirPlay server (typically iTunes) and the AirPlay speaker (AirPort Express, Apple TV, or an AirPlay-Ready receiver or speaker). AirPlay will traverse over an extended Wi-Fi network regardless of which manufacturer hardware is used.

can you hook a jetpack up to a wireless router

    http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/377853-wireless-router-as-a-bridge-to-verizon-jet-pack
It can be done. However I normally use my broadband network and a wireless repeater. I use Netgear and Belkin, both work together nicely and you can place repeaters all over your home and property.
Additionally on my broadband modem I have opened up a WiFi connection for emergency access. Its buttoned up with high security but I access WiFi on the Netgear R6300 both wireless and hard connect(RJ-45) and through the Belkin Repeater both WiFi and hard connect (RJ-45) and I use my broadband modem/WiFi as both WiFi and hard connect (RJ-45) with absolutely no interference.
The basic principle is or should be the same with the jetpack as used as a pass through . See the link above.

  • Time Capsule vs Lacie Wireless Space vs ?

    Hi folks,
I'm a new proud owner of a 11.6" Macbook Air. I'd like to migrate to it fully from my 17" Macbook Pro, but to do so, I'd like to migrate my music to a NAS, ideally one that could also perform Time Machine backups. I have a wifi-only setup at home right now, with an airport express plugged into my cable modem, and I'd like to stay wifi-only (I rent, and want to run no wires). So either a Time Capsule or the new Lacie Wireless Space (http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?pid=11565) look to be the perfect options for me. I'd love to go with a Time Capsule, but the reported reliability issues scare me away from them.
    So, my questions-
    1) Has Apple improved the Time Capsule enough to where it can get a confident buy?
    2) Does anyone have experience with the Lacie NAS options to recommend them?
    3) Any other ideas?
This is a real head-scratcher for me, and I'd appreciate some input.
    Thanks!
    sam

I too am exploring the options of Space vs Time Capsule.
Just read "LaCie's unit is mostly limited by its dependence on single-band 802.11n instead of the Time Capsule's dual-band wireless support."
    Read more: http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/09/16/lacie.wireless.space.merges.router .and.nas/#ixzz171BUKjy0
Also: "It’s compatible with UPnP/DLNA and iTunes, and you can stream music, movies and photos from a central location and play them on any device.
Moreover, the Wireless Space is Time Machine compatible, so Mac users can use it as a target for their automatic backups and be confident that all important files and media are safely protected."
    http://www.techdaring.com/2010/09/18/lacie-wireless-space-takes-on-time-capsule- doubles-as-nas-and-wlan-router/
Regarding failures, I read about the Time Capsule failures and experienced Lacie failures (I've replaced three power supplies on my Lacie d2s, and we just had to send back for a Lacie replacement of my son's d2, less than a year old. So reliability is an issue sometimes no matter where you go. Get a good warranty. Lacie makes such solid products (and backs up there products; one power supply was out of warranty) that I've stuck with them (and my wondering has cost me; I have an Iomega Ultramax that won't wake up sometimes when it goes to sleep, though my Iomega portable eGo has been flawless).
We tried an Airport Extreme a year ago and it just works out of the box; practically no setup. But I have an Airport Express that just up and died after about 2.5 years.
I'd say they were comparably priced for what they each offer, with Apple a bit of a premium overall, and probably a bit more of a premium product to go with the price.
I'm torn. I'd save cash and go with the Lacie, but seeing I plan to use it as a portable NAS and the Time Capsule has a built in power supply it would be easier to carry.
    Decisions, decisions.

  • Can you hook up to ethernet

Can you hook up ethernet to express; have access to multiple computers, pick the one you want, drill down to that itunes library and play the associated songs and playlists?  Also, is there a way to play internet radio; lastly can you control this via an iphone?  if so how? is there an app that can allow users to access thier windows computer and see thier itunes library?

Yes it sounds correct. They can be Windows computers, they just have to be running fairly recent versions of iTunes and they all have to be on the same network. Wired or wireless makes no difference.
If you have an Express it can also join your network wirelessly or via Ethernet. They can be configured to connect to your network either way.
With the iPhone's Remote app you simply click the gear icon and click "add an iTunes library". You go to that computer and type in the code to authorize it. Sharing has to be enabled in iTunes Preferences also. Home Sharing uses your Apple ID so the other computers all have to use the same one.
Also, if you are using Windows you will almost certainly have to configure its firewall or anti-virus software. Such things are designed to hinder all sorts of communication and they're all different so you may be on your own trying to figure that out.
Apple has lots of instructions regarding Home Sharing, if you're not getting anywhere start with this:

Hi - you can connect mutiple USB printers via a USB hub - you can also connect multiple printers to the ethernet ports on an Extreme or Time Capsule - you can do the same with an Express with an ethernet switch - you can also do it wirelessly

Would I put the code in the HTML or in the CSS?  I’ve tried both to no avail.

Can you use Iphone hotspot to wirelessly connect to apple TV.  ie I have no router but am interested in playing music from phone to apple TV.

Yes in theory, though do check your phone contract small print and keep an eye on your data usage - in theory local data sent across the LAN created by the hotspot should not use 3G data but some carriers seem to treat it as internet data usage.

  • HT4145 Can I link up a Dlink wireless router to a Airport Base Station

    Hi All,
need advise on whether can I link up a Dlink wireless router to a Airport Base Station and if can how do I set it up.
    with regards and thank you
    Chris

If your goal is to either extend the D-Link's Wi-Fi network with the AirPort or the other way around, then the answer is no. That is because, most non-Apple routers are not WDS-compatible with the AirPorts.

  • Can I extend my network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable? I have CAT5 cable throughout my house but have a wireless network w/ 3 airport expresses

Can I extend my wireless network by connecting one of my airport express devices to my airport extreme via an ethernet cable?  I have a wireless network with 3 airport expresses and 1 airport extreme functioning as the base station. I have CAT5 throughout my house.

    Welcome to the discussions, mib88!
Can I extend the network a second time with another Airport Express...
The short answer would be no. If you want more details, please continue to the next paragraph.
Apple's "extend a wireless network" works just like the hub and spokes of a wheel. Your main hub is either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme and the AirPort Express is at the end of a spoke. You can add more devices at the ends of other spokes, but these devices will communicate directly to the hub, not to another device at the end of a spoke.
Apple does offer an option which is is known as a "static WDS", which can consist of a "main", "relay" and "remote" device. The problem here is that this type of setup has two huge drawbacks:
    1) All of your faster "n" devices will drop down to much slower "g" speeds
    2) The bandwidth or speed capability on the network will drop down to only 25% of the original bandwidth with a "main", "relay" and "remote" on the network.
Don't think you want this on your network. Your best option is to connect the new AirPort Express to the "hub" using an ethernet connection. If you can't run the ethernet cable, take a look at a pair of ethernet powerline adapters to accomplish the same task by sending the ethernet signal over the AC powerline in your home.
