Can you install a second mSATA SSD in Yoga 13?

Hey all,
I just got my Yoga 13 a few days back. It seems they have updated from the 2013 version and in this you can access the internals by simply unscrewing the back cover. Here is my question, my original configuration is with a 256gb SSD. I was wondering if it will be possible to add an extra ssd in my Yoga 13. I am a newbie in all this, so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks so much!
Jay

I followed this video and it worked OK for me. <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At-Br20OAvg>
Not sure if this was the same size SSD.
Google around; there have been others published on this topic. Be careful prying the machine open and also with the cable. I had to repeat the process because the cable pulled loose. Also, if your keybooard is mushy pay careful attention to getting all the tabs and screws back in place. Everything else worked out well. Good luck.

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart 320-1130a Desktop Computer. No, you can't install a second hard drive in this computer. The HP TouchSmart and All-in-One computers have more in common with laptops than they do with desktops.

• Can't install any OS on SSD - DV7-6030ew

Hello,
I have Kingston SSDNow V SNV125 64GB (~4 years old) which had been running fine in my PC BOX. I have recently bought new SSD and decided to put old SSD into my DV7-6030ew laptop. So I took out HDD from NB and replaced it with Kingston SSD.
The problem is that I can't install any OS on this SSD. I tried:
XP - after "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD" I got setup screen and after few seconds I got BSOD. I tried three different XP versions - always the same BSOD.
Win 7 - tried many times. System always installs successfully but then after random driver installation or Windows Update system doesn't boot. It freezes at windows splash screen or launches "System Recovery Options". I always install Intel Chipset driver and Intel MEI first. These two never killed the OS. OS gets killed later after GPU/Wi-Fi/Fingerprint/Other driver. Sometimes it happens that I setup all drivers but Windows Update kills OS. My last installation ended up with "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" during boot and now every restart it freezes at splash screen. I tried installing Intel Rapid Storage but it doesn't help.
Win 8 with Update 1 - always installs successfully and almost always I'm able to setup all drivers (even through Windows Update). It always dies after Windows Update (random KBxxxxx).
Ubuntu Linux - Installed successfully. Right after desktop showed up I restarted it (I didn't change anything) and I got "no such partition" error during boot.
I have bought HP Sata cable replacement on EBay and put the old HDD into the second bay and connected it through this cable. So I have SSD in first bay connect with original HP cable and HDD in second bay connected with replacement cable. I have created two new 40GB partitions on HDD and setup two new Windows installation on this HDD. Both installed successfully. No problem with drivers, windows update etc. I tried copying one of these good installations from HDD partition to SSD using "Paragon migrate OS to SSD". It went well but during boot -> splash screen -> "System Recovery Options". I also tried to copy it through Paragon Partition Manager from Hiren's Boot CD but during boot I got this screen.
Unfortunately the SSD is old and there is no firmware upgrade for it. NB has the newest F.1B bios installed.
Why I can't install anything on this SSD? Please help.
Regards
Rychu

Hey @RychuPL ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to use your SSD in your DV7 notebook.
Were both drives connected during the tests that you have run? If so please disconnect the secondary drive and test with only the SSD installed. It could be that the BIOS is picking up part of the Boot MGR from the original drive and attempting to boot from it in some way. Only thing that really makes sense to me at the moment.
Another "solution" (and I use the term very loosely in this case) is to install Windows 7 or 8 while offline and turn off the Windows updates to prevent the crash, or if it crashes after a specific update, to uninstall and block that specific update:
To do this follow these steps: (Windows 8)
1. Boot into safe mode: Windows Startup Settings (including safe mode)
2. Press Windows Key + X.
3. Click Programs and Features.
4. Click View Installed Updates on the left hand side.
5. Click on the Installed On heading to sort by date installed.
6. Click on the update that was recently installed.
7. Click Uninstall at the top.
8. After you've uninstalled the updates test the startup.
If it works, block the Windows updates that caused the issue: (Windows 8)
1. Press Windows Key + X.
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click System and Security.
4. Click Windows Update.
5. Click Check for updates to rescan for available updates.
6. Click on # important updates are available. Where # is the number of available updates.
7. Right click on the update and choose Hide update. If the update is not shown, click the Optional tab on the left.
If you use Windows 7 follow these steps to get into the update list:
1. Boot into safe mode: Start your computer in safe mode
2. Click Start.
3. Type Update in the search.
4. Click View installed updates.
5. Click on the Installed On heading to sort by date installed.
6. Click on the update that was recently installed.
7. Click Uninstall at the top.
8. After you've uninstalled the updates test the startup.
To block the updates in Windows 7:
1. Click Start.
2. Type Update in the search.
3. Click Windows Update.
4. Click Check for updates.
5. Click on # important updates are available. Where # is the number of available updates.
6. Right click on the update and choose Hide update. If the update is not shown, click the Optional tab on the left.
To be frank I really don't have any suggestions other than that considering you've tried multiple operating systems with identical results.
Hopefully removing the HDD allows the SSD to work. In which case formatting the drive or running KillDisk would be the best option.
Hopefully that helps!

• Satellite A300-15M - Can I install a second HDD?

Hi there.
I own a SatelliteA300-15M. I bought the laptop 2 years ago. I have already 250GB hard drive which came with the laptop. Recently I got my laptop serviced from local shop. I noticed that it has an additional slot for another hard drive. I saw a post that some of the A300/A305 laptops have the space for second hard drive but not the connectors.
If anyone owns A300-15M can they please tell me if i can install a second internal hard drive in my model? Is there a sure way to find if I can really install a second hard drive?

Hello
> but not the connectors.
So the case is claer: If you dont have a second SATA connector, you cant install a second HDD.
Check also the forum regarding such questions. The point is that one notebook series (e. g. Satellite A300) is always equipped with the same case but the hardware is different. So not all models have the same features. ;)

• Satellite X200-245 can i install a second HDD

on satellite X200-245 : can i install a second hard drive ?
is it possible ?
There is a place for it but no sata connection on the mother board where can i find this connector

No you cannot install the second HDD because there is no HDD connector which would allows to connect the HDD to the mobo.
And No, its not possible to upgrade the mobo with such connector.
The X200 has the two HDD bays because some X200 support 2 HDDs and some dont support it.
Your X200 doesnt support 2 HDD

• How can I install a second version without affecting the first?

How can I install a second version of FF without affecting my original installation?

You can install multiple Firefox versions via a custom install in different installation folders and only use the older Firefox version when you really need it.
Do a custom install and install each version in its own program folder to use multiple Firefox versions.
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Custom+installation+of+Firefox+on+Windows
* http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/
Make sure not to start Firefox after the installation has finished.
Create a new profile exclusively for each Firefox version.
Create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch each Firefox version with its own profile.

• Can I install Ubuntu in the SSD of Satellite U940-sp4103gl?

Please help me as soon as possible.
These are my questions:
Can I install ubuntu in the ssd of Toshiba u940-sp4103gl?
How to do that?
This is urgent, I'll appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Hi there
Sorry for a late reply!
Yes, you can install any late Linux distro on the SSD.
But You need to remove the RAID-config first (suggest using the DISKS utility).
Then you'll have SDA and SDB - depending on BIOS setup the SSD will get either one.
Point the installer to the SSD but make sure to format and set the HDD as your HOME mount point.
That will give you a unit with SSD performance but a large storage.

Yes, you can.
You will need to purchase a Solid-state drive connector board (includes cable: For use only with computer models not equipped with an mSATA solid-state drive)

• How many computers can you install the micro soft Office 2011 on.

How many computers can you install the Micro Office 2011 on?

A full (retail, single license key) MS Office license permits you to install Office on 1 desktop Mac + 1 portable (laptop) Mac provided 1) you own both computers and 2) you do not use Office simultaneously on both computers.
Beyond that, it depends on the specific Office package you have. Some packages have more specific terms.
For example, if you have MS Office Home & Student 2011 you will have 3 activation keys permitting you to install it on 3 computers, period. (Not 1 desktop + 1 laptop per license key.)
The license key pertains to the computer (device) not the number of user accounts on the device. So, if you have 2 or 3 or more user accounts on your iMac you only need to use 1 license key for the iMac itself. You apply the license key (activate the software) only in the admin account under which you installed the software. Once you activate the software in the primary admin account, Office will be usable in all user accounts on the iMac. Do not try to activate the software under other user accounts on the same Mac - if you do you will unnecessarily use up more license keys.
