Can you install osx lion with thumb drive from 10.6.3

can you install osx lion with thumb drive from 10.6.3

No. You can install Snow Leopard with a flash drive 10.6.3 installer. However, for Lion you must start with 10.6.8 in order to access the App Store to purchase and download Lion.

  • Can I install OSX lion on a MacBook 4.1?

Can I install OSX lion on a MacBook 4.1? I'm trying to install iCloud on this computer and I need to install OSX (10.7.4) or higher. I don't see OSX (7) available in the store.

Yes. Lion is not offered in the App Store, so you must phone Apple on the number shown in the Apple Online Store.
Explain that you want to purchase Lion for your MacBook4,1.
After Apple collects their fee ($20 + tax) they will send you a download code in an encrypted PDF document, and in another email supply the key to unencrypt the PDF.
"Redeem" the code in the App Store to purchase Lion.
Make sure you have enough memory; your Mac can address a maximum 6 GB. Lion's minimum requirement is 2 GB but I recommend at least 4 GB. More is better.

  • Can I install os9 on an external drive from mavericks

Can I install OS9 on an external drive from Mavericks? I'm running Mavericks 10.9.4 on both my MBP and 27" iMac. I have my original OS9 install disc. I'd like to install OS9 on an external drive so I can use some classic apps that I'd like to use.
I tried to install directly to an external drive, but when I click on the Mac OS Install icon, I get the message "You can't open the application "%@" because it may be damaged or incomplete." The icon for Mac OS Install is the generic page with an A. Figuring that Mavericks doesn't recognize the app. Then I restarted and held down the C key - no luck.

I understand, but was hoping I boot off an external drive in 9. Thanks for your response and I apologize for my late response.

  • Can you dual boot lion with an older verion of Mac OS?

Can you dual boot Lion Os with and Older version of Mac Os (Snow Leopard?) So one can rum Power PC apps until they are upgraded?

You can dual boot if your machine originally came with an older OS version. No Mac can boot from an older version than the one it came with - notable exceptions are if the machine was built right around the time of the new OS release; in that case, it would depend on the machine and OS builds - it may or may not be possible.
So the important question here is: did yours come with Lion preinstalled? The answer is most likely: No. Or Snow Leopard? The answer would be: Yes.

  • Is iPhoto and iMovie and garage band on Lion reinstall thumb drive from Apple??

Is iphoto and imovie and garage Band On the Os x Lion reinstall thumb Drive Sold By Apple???

No.  iLife is a separate product that is bundled with the purchase of a new Mac, not the purchase of a new OS.
So, anyone with an older Mac would have pay for an upgrade to iLife in addition to paying for an upgrade to Lion.
On a positive note, you can now upgrade separate components in the App Store (i.e. iPhoto), instead of paying for the complete iLife suite

  • How can I create a Lion USB Thumb Drive with the 11E2068 build?

It seems that the Lion build from the Mac App Store is not compatible with my Macbook Pro Retina 15''. It's seems I would need the the build 11E2068 for my USB thumb drive to work properly.
I don't want to go through the internet recovery and loose 8 hours.
Is there anyway for my to get that build(11E2068) on my USB thumb drive?
    Thanks,

keg55's given you article that allows you to capture the installer. These are the critical portions:
Once that data has been downloaded, Lion Recovery restarts your Mac, immediately installs the OS, and then deletes the installer data. The trick is to interrupt that process—safely—so you can grab the installer data and keep it. Here are the steps to take:
IMO, Apple needs to rethink this process. Unless users with machines that had Lion preinstalled, like yourself, let Apple know this process is terrible, they'll not change their minds.
    7.  IMPORTANT: Monitor the download’s progress. As the progress bar gets near the end, get ready, because once the status reads About 0 seconds remaining, the progress bar will disappear, the installer will spend a minute or two cleaning up, and then your Mac will restart. As soon as the screen goes dark, unplug your external drive. If you wait too long, your Mac will boot into the Mac OS X installer on that drive, starting the installation process. Interrupting that process can leave your Mac unable to install OS X unless you restart it and—I’m not joking—zap PRAM.

  • How How can i install Mountain Lion with faulty firewire ports??

Basically the firewire ports are fried on my MBP 3.1  (2007). My mac used to take hang on blue screen and take 10 mins to boot but I solved this problem by installing an ssd and deleting the following kext file...
    /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireFamily.kext
My MBP now boots in under 20 seconds so if anybody is having the same issue then there is the resolotion..
Anyway these are the steps I have taken but failed to properly install ML.
Dowloaded Mountain Lion at least 3 times from the App store to make sure the download wasn't corrupted.
I even tried making a Lion Bootdisk so I can install Mountain Lion on a USB drive (Install ESD.dmg).
I have even tried installing Lion first thinking I would take it one version at a time but gets stuck on boot screen too.
I even changed my hard drive to a new blank SSD drive to see any difference.
Each time I install Mountain Lion or Lion, everything is good until the installer has to restart the laptop.
Laptop gets stuck at the grey boot screen with the Apple logo and the loading circle. Nothing ever happens after.
I always had to use/boot to the Snow Leopard CD so I can restart the laptop back to the Snow Leopard OS and then update to 10.6.8.
I am guessing it is the ML dmg reinstalling the above file ( /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWireFamily.kext ) which is leading to the same issue because of the faulty firewire ports.
Is there anyway I can resolve this because its doing my head in and Snow Leopard is old and doesnt support newer software that I would like to use.
Any help would be kindly appreciated. Thanks

    Just some thoughts.
I presume you already partitioned the new SSD drive as GUID?
Is there anything on the new drive at all yet, or anything that isn't already backed up? If not, you could try erasing the drive and then installing OS X from the bootable flash drive installer you made.
Ive tried that and yes it is GUID. Im going to get grey hairs soon and Im not even 30 lol .... yet
I am not going to buy a new logic board as its just not logical (sorry for the pun) I got the mac for free and I want to spend as little money as possible. Im running out of ideas though

  • How can I install OSX lion on my completely wiped mac mini?

I have a 2011 mac mini server edition (Without CD drive), and tried to partition it to a RAID0 last night. I reformatted both drives (Just the inner partitions, so It shouldn't have affected the recovery partition), and now it will not boot.
When I turn the computer on, it flashes a question mark folder, and when I boot with option, it gives me a list of wireless networks on a grey screen. When I select my network, it logs into it, but doesn't do anything further. It will not let me boot into the recovery partition at all.
How can I re-install lion on this computer? I do have a firewire cable, so I could do target disc mode if that's even possible.
    Thanks!

That just isn't practical for me, to be booting off an external.
Would a flash drive work, or something to that effect?
nope, you need a external drive 1TB in size to hold all the data from the 2-500GB's and double as a backup when the RAID 0 fails which they are twice as likely to do.
you can only install OS X on a Mac, so once it's there you clone it to the 1TB, option boot from it, create the RAID and reverse clone.
no  Lion Recovery, that's why you need another way to get Lion back, that's why you got to make the Lion Recovery USB first before doing anything.

  • Can't install OSX  on a hard drive

I connected a small HD (10GB) in a Firewire external case. Wanted to install Jaguar onto this small HD. Initialized the HD. A message read, "You can not install Mac OSX on this disk. You cannot start up your computer using this disk."
Didn't notice the jumpers, might this be the reason I am given the message above, perhaps it does not have the correct jumper settings?
At first, when I put the 10GB HD into the Mac, it did not show up in X, then I put the jumpers in the Master position, all was well until I used 9.2.2 and this HD doesn't show up on the desktop.
Many appreciations for reading this post.
    Patt

Mac OS X has common drivers built in, but OS 9 requires a driver be installed before it can mount a Hard drive.
If you are running OS 9 you can use Drive Setup to "Update Driver" if permitted. Otherwise, you will have to initialize the drive, which partitions, installs a driver, and creates a directory. Use HFS+ Extended mode.
If you are using Mac OS X, use Disk Utility, HFS+Extended mode, and be sure that the box for "Install Mac OS 9 Drivers is checked. They don't take up much space and you cannot do it later.
If the drive is used, I recommend selecting "Write Zeroes" or "Zero all Data" This process takes several hours, but forces the drive to write a known pattern into every block and verify that it can be read back without resorting to error-correction Hardware. If error correction is required, the block is declared bad and a spare block is substituted at the Drive Hardware level.

  • Install Tiger updates with thumb drive...

This was my first Mac desktop. It was hard, but I finally parted with it with someone who would treat it good and enjoy it. She has no internet access for now and In finally got the added video card working. I'm heading over tomorrow with the video card cd for the proper drivers which I hope solve the locking up problem. She is planning on moving which is one of the reason why she hasn't gotten internet access yet. Can I download the updates onto a thumb drive and install them on Powermac running Tiger? The alternative is to take the tower home with me, it's a 32 miles round trip, and update it for her then return it to her.
Any advice is very much appreciated.

Yes. Move the dmg files as is without using Software Update.
