Can you Kickstart ARD over Internet through VNC?

On trying to view my home computer, a 10.4.3 Mac,
I can login and see the Mac's desktop, but I cannot
move anything or stop/start apps. I know I need to
give it the Kickstart procedure, but ARD Admin
tells me taks will fail on client, and I know I have ssh
enabled on my home machine.
It says VNC status on in its current status, so I assume
the connection via Internet is VNC, and ssh will not work
on VNC?

Permissions are set correctly.
Yesterday, everything worked fine.
Today is when I encounter problems.
Removing the client from the list and re-adding it
caused verification to fail? Unchecking
"verify before adding" re-enabled connection.
I can see the desktop, choose control and if I double click
on a older on the desktop...nothing. Log out, log backin,
the folder has opened. Click to highlight an item, nothing.
Log out, log back in...item is highlighted.
Is VNC the only way to connect Mac to Mac through the internet? All of my local subnet macs I administer,
no problems. But through the internet, I get this.

Can you shut off the Internet on a iPhone 4 and then use the phone as normal

I assume that you're asking if you can shut off cellular data (as no individual can shut off the Internet! )? Yes, you can turn off cellular data and use the phone features (except for MMS which requires cellular data) and access the Interenet via WiFi.

I recently updated my iPod touch to sync through iCloud - now can't connect to the internet through wifi, my macbook air is working as we speak. ive tried 'forgetting this network" in settings; tried turning off and on again; and pulling my hair out! The last was equally useless and a little painful!

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPOd. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • ARD over internet to multiple macs using the same connection

Hi, I know the topic has been covered to enable ARD over the net, however all the solutions I see require port forwarding which in essence makes only one computer using the internet connection available, how do you make it so multiple macs can use the one internet connection to send/receive ARD requests? is there a way to change the port ARD uses on individual macs and then forward the ports ? or do I have to go down the VPN path ? or is there a better solution for this kind of setup, thanks Ash

    Precisely.
    Cheers, Joel
\[ Note, the reason I didn't use 5900 and 5901 was for clarity to make it obvious that they are arbitrary choices on the external side, but also because sometimes using 5901+ gets confusing. Depending on your VNC server software, which port on the internal side that you choose to use between 5900-5920 actually means something (resolution, color depth, etc) to the server software. If you can keep it all straight in your head though, and point them all to the right internal port (5900 usually), no harm in it. If you don't mind adding some awful "security through obscurity," you probably shouldn't have VNC service open to the internet on 5900 anyway. Either way, you should also probably limit connections to those internal machines now that they are "directly reachable" from the 'net. In your firewall they should both have default-deny policies for incoming requests unless they're from your known-safe external addresses.]

  • Can you use bluetooth network internet.

My wife got a PC laptop and I do not have a router. Can I use bluetooth to let her connect to the internet through my Imac. If so how.

Bluetooth would be far too slow for this purpose, unless your wife is happy to use the Internet at dial-up modem speeds.
Unfortunately you have neglected to mention how your iMac is connected to the Internet, or whether both computers have wifi. You can share an Ethernet Internet connection over wifi to other wifi enabled computers.
However, it would be far simpler just to buy a cheap 4 port router.

  • Two EX90 devices can make video calls over Internet with No VCS-C and VCS-E

    Dear Experts;
I  have just started TelePresence and VCS 2 weeks before by going through cisco docs and videos and I had taken a risk of implementing the infrastructure elements.
We are now implementing Cisco Tele presence with VCS-C, VCS-E TMS,TCS,MCU and End points with  Jabber in One setup.
and in another setup CUCM 10.5,UCCX 10.5 IM&P,Jabber with some 10 agents.
Now the question is In our same building in 2nd floor we have one EX90 and in 5th Floor one EX90 and over LAN we can make video calls using IP address.
In the same way is it possible to make  a video call between 2 EX90 devices present in different location in the same city over Internet without the involvement of VCS-C and VCS-E.
    Appreciate your valuable reply.
    Regards
    Debashis

The simple answer to that is NO! Where is the EX90 registered to at the moment? Is it on the VCS? or CUCM

  • Can't connect imac to internet through Airport Express

    Hello
I am trying to connect my new imac (2.4Ghz,OS X 10.5) to the internet through my Airport Express (v6.3) but have encountered some problems.
The set up goes like this:
    Cable Internet <wired> TP-LINK Router <wired> AE <wireless> imac
The internet is coming from my landlord on the bottom floor of my apartment so I can't change the router.
The router is assigning a static IP to my AE (192.168.5.101).
I am using WEP 128 bit security.
I have set the AE through Airport Utility to act as a Bridge.
On the imac I set the Network preferences to manually select an IP address (192.168.5.110) which is out of the range of the Router (192.168.5.101-108).
The AE connects and lights up green and the imac recognises the AE but I still cannot access the internet...
I have also tried to wirelessly connect my PC laptop to the AE using other static addresses but I still can't connect to the internet.
    Can anyone please help??
    Regards
    Starwolfgang

Hello Starwolfgang. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The router is assigning a static IP to my AE (192.168.5.101).
Are you sure that this provided IP address is static? If so, you also need to note the provided DNS server(s) IPs as well.
On the imac I set the Network preferences to manually select an IP address (192.168.5.110) which is out of the range of the Router (192.168.5.101-108).
Since you configured your AX in bridge mode, your computer will be dependent on the NAT (& possibly DHCP) services provided by your apartment's router. Assuming that your landlord doesn't filter out any IP addresses and that the IP address you set is valid, you need to compare your iMac AirPort's DNS server address settings with that provided by your apartment's router to be sure they match.
Finally, assuming that your apartment provides you with an Ethernet jack, if you connect your iMac directly (via Ethernet) can it access the Internet?

  • Blackberry 9320 can't connect to the internet through WIFI

    Dear all
I have problem connecting my Blackberry 9320 to the internet via the wifi. I have tried all settings but still can't connect. I connect to the WIFI but when I try to connect to the net its says can't connect to the internet if the problems continues contact your internet service provider. I had the Blackberry 8520, I could connect to the net through the WIFI easily but with this I really don't know where the problem could be. I really need your help

If it says "Contact your service provider", then i don't think it's a problem with BB's end. You need to contact your carrier.

  • Can you purchase non-education books through the Volume Purchasing Program?, Can you purchase non-education books through the Volume Purchasing Program?

We want to distribute a book available on the ibook store through VPP.  When we search the VPP the book is not there.  Is it even possible to purchase non educational books through VPP?
    Thanks

Looking at the examples posted in the documents, there are examples of qty 12 and qty 10, and no mention of minimum purchases.  There also appears to be no price break for apps purchased through the program.  So this is different from the 20+ program where you are getting volume discounts.  Clearly it's more valuable for the 20-and-over market -- can you imagine creating and managing 500 accounts with 500 separate bills when you buy 500 copies of a 99-cent app?  Aack!
The default way that the App Store is set up is totally oriented to individual private purchasers.  The Apple ID is permanently linked to the app purchased, and you must know the username and password of the Apple ID that installed the app in order to update that app on that device.  Oh, and you can't just use one Apple ID and password for every machine in your group.
I'm thinking of creating a naming scheme for Apple ID's -- one for each machine.  I'll create an email address for each machine and then that becomes the Apple ID for that machine's App Store purchases [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc.  Give them all the same password.  Then all I have to worry about is if I need to shift around software and recombine them so that I end up with multiple Apple IDs on single machines...

  • Can I pass ARD an address through a hyperlink or file?

Is it possible to have an address like:
    ard://0.0.0.0 or ard://mymachine.local
that would open up Remote Desktop to that address?
Alternatively, is there a way to save a machine as a file that, when opened, would open up as if it were simply a machine from your list?

You can set such a thing up through Automator; use the Choose Remote Computer action and you can specify which computer in the ARD list you want to access.

You can, if your printer is AirPrint compatible.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer appears:

If your printer is not compatible, you might still be able to print by adding an App like Print Central to the iPad.

  • Can you send FCP project files through email?

If all of a projects original capture footage is copied to another hard drive and then opened with the copied saved project file on another computer, will the "new" copied project work correctly?
Can you send project files back and forth through email if your both working with the same exact copied footage?
    powermac g5 2.0 DC; powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I use iChat to send project files. I've even used it to send a missing media file here and there (overnight, of course). < </div>
iChat is tremendously under-used and misunderstood application. Being able to transfer h-u-g-e files without FTP, connecting to a server, connecting to the target Shared folder or drop box or stooping to the hassles of email is only one fascinating aspect of this cool little tool.
The Macintosh OS is full of such things.
