Can you limit an application's RAM?

I was just wondering if there was a program or something that you could use to limit RAM usage for a certain application. Some programs eat up all the ram and slow the machine down.
Another question, is there a way to see how much RAM a certain application is currently using? Or better yet all running apps so you can contrast and compare?

RAM prices have stayed pretty low for a while (see here), so your best option is to load up while the prices are attractive. Adding a US$23 256MB module would go a long way to improving your performance and stability without risking a third-party system enhancer that could potentially cause you no end of grief.
This assumes you have a slot available which, based on standard configs for that model, I think you do. Unless you are into very heavy-duty programs, simply taking Panther to 512MB makes a big difference; my son's G4 MDD came with 256MB and adding another 256MB make all the difference in the world. Later he bumped it to 1G and the change was not that impressive.

  • Can you limit the list of AirPlay devices seen on the iPad if multiple devices exist?

We are setting up a school to use iPads, Apple Tvs and Projectors in classrooms.
    - Teachers are using iPads in classrooms and we are setting up wireless projection using AirPlay.
    - Each classroom has an Airport Express with a unique WiFi name.
    - Each classroom has a projector with an Apple TV mounted on it and each Apple TV has a unique AirPlay name.
    - An iPad and the AppleTV are the only two devices on each classroom’s wifi.
    - When a teacher wants to mirror iPad to the projector, we thought they would just see their own AppleTv (projector) but, I think because the underlying school network is the same in each classroom, the teacher sees every device in the school.
Question:  If you have multiple AirPlay devices on the same network, can you limit the list that one sees on an iPad?
And/or: Is there a way to set up the wifi differently so the teacher is not presented with a huge list of devices?

I wish teachers like you would leave technology you don't understand alone. The fact you were allowed to plug-in "consumer grade" access points into a enterprise network says a lot about your lack of knowledge; next you want to turn all of these low end access points into routers!? Your going configure a unique SSID on every AP setup each device to only connect to that network? Do you have any consent of wireless networks? Management?
It's teachers like you that bring down a network. Then you insult the very IT staff that work in a very thankless position in which most of their interaction occurs when something doesn't work.

    thanks,
so , now what is the benefit of hyper-v role on essential 2012r2 .  it that means that I can install only one operating system on it only one instance and no more. also I can run some applications on this server  just like you say with RDP licence
for each user to acces this virtual server!
and if I want more instances then I have to get datacenter.

  • Can you limit the amount of data accessed per user on an AirPort Extreme?

Can you limit the amount of data accessed per user on an AirPort Extreme?

Your question was whether the AirPort Extreme is able to establish data limits per user.
If you add another router that has this type of capability or install software on another router, then you will be able to establish data limits for each user. The AirPort Extreme will have no control over this.

  • In the new mac app store how do you limit displayed applications only to os x applications.

In the new mac app store how do you limit displayed applications only to os x applications. I do not have Iphone or ipad so all the phone junk is annoying and one cannot find the relevant software.

The Mac App Store only has apps for Mac OS X. There are no iOS apps.
The iOS apps for iPhones, iPods and iPads, are in the iTunes App Store.

  • Can you reload web application from the Weblogic console?

              Good day, eh!
Can you reload all your jsp/servlet classes of your

A one big button labeled 'Reload application' would be very

    Hi,
I agree it is a much needed feature. Suppose I just change an init
param of one application in the web.xml, I don't want to take down the
15 other webapps running on my server just to be able to have that web
app restart and re-read is configuration. Of course, I could program
some servlet that allows changing application attributes and to enable
restarting, but really this a)does not cover all the cases (i.e. addind
an EBJ reference binding to web.xml) b) should be provided by the app
server, not programmed by every little programmer again & again.

  • Can you deploy an application sequenced with App-V v5 with SCCM 2007?

We are currently in the process of upgrading to SCCM 2012.  We are also embarking on testing App-V v5.  Can we deploy sequenced applications from App-V v5 using SCCM 2007?  What limitations will exist with SCCM 2007?  What release of
SCCM 2007 should we be at for App-V v5 sequenced applications to be deployed and/or streamed?

  • How can I limit same application only be launched once in one pc

I designed my first game application. It is a multi-play net chess game, I use RMI to achieved it.But I don't want to any player to open two or more client chess application in their PC(they can cheat in playing by this way).how can I do it?
kind java fans, please give me some tips or suggestion. I am also a java fan....
I will show my loyalty to java and sun and J2EE for ever.....

I had the same problem before. What we did, was to establish a port listener thread inside our application. Once the application starts, it checks if that port is already in use. If not, it establishes the listener and goes on. If the port is in use, the second instance has been started, and can safely terminate. What we did in addition to that, the second instance would pass any commandline parameters through the port communication to the already running instance, so that that program could carry out the task the user requested.
If the application crashed or is killed by the user, this will work also because then the port will be freed automatically by the system.
As you are a beginner you are probably not familiar with socket communication. I'd recommend Bruce Eckel's book "Thinking in Java" which has an excellent chapter on socket programming in Java (actually our solution was based upon his examples - thanks for that Bruce!).

  • Can you show different applications in different Dialog instances?

    Hi,
We have a requirement but I don´t know if it is possible.
We have a Portal installation with One CI and 5 DI´s, let´s say that the requirement is to show in CI and DI(1) two applications, in DI(2) and DI(3) three applications different from the other two applications and in DI(4) and DI(5) one application different from the others.
Is this Posible? most of the applications are built on Webdynpro.
    Thanx in Advanced!
    Gerardo J

    Hi,
Really creative Solution, you are right this way it should work :O), I´m thinking that the roles will keep showing even though the applications wont work, but I don´t know if the client will like that the menues are displayed and can be selected and the applications wont show, do you know if there is a workaround that can be done on this situation? I was thinking on one but can´t detect a solution to make the roles variable depending on the applications runing.
Thanx Again I liked that the way you porpoused it is achievable to just run different applications in different nodes.
    Really apreciate it!
    Kind Regards,

  • Can you Launch External Applications From Within InDesign Ebook?

    Hi all,
I was wondering if it is possible to open an external application from within an ebook (created with InDesign) e.g. click on a link and have an external ssh client open up for instance?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Regards,
    RG

It's possible to include hyperlinks in an InDesign file and export them in an EPUB file. Since I'm not familiar with working with SSH clients (in fact, I just had to Google it to have a clue what you're talking about), is this something that can be invoked in a standard URL format? If so, you could probably include it.
The next issue is whether the link would work. The link couldn't be used directly in any eBook reader I know of, but at least the iBook on an iPad or iPhone would switch to to Safari to let you follow a URL to its destination. But I don't think that's possible on most eBooks.

  • Can you Put any kind of RAM in an Imac?

My friend claims he put 512 mb of ram from his pc into his apple Imac. I don't think that sounds reasonable. Is this possible, and if so would the performance be any good?

Confirm that it meets the specs Apple specifies, easiest way is usually to check
    http://www.crucial.com/mac/
Then run Memtest to insure it passes (no matter what you buy or have installed).
RAM can vary from the same vendor and it is possible that "A" works, "B" works, but put both in the same system and they won't.
    Another reliable vendor is
    www.ramjet.com
Even OWC carries Micron/Crucial as well as Samsung (they may have stopped, I don't see it as often now due to its high price?).
As long as the timing, voltage, SPD and CAS Latency all "match up" - it might! Does that sounds like it is worth a roll of the dice... ?

  • Can you limit e-mail items on iPhone with iOS 7?

Prior to iOS 7, there was a setting to limit the quantity of e-mail items that would upload to the phone (ie, 50 per account).  It seems with iOS 7, that setting is no longer an option, or at least I can't seem to find it.  Does anyone know if such a setting is still in iOS 7?  Thx in advance...

  • Can you limit write-behind batch sizes to a set number in Coherence 3.5?

I'm currently running Coherence 3.5.3p9 on Windows.
The cache store is set up to use the write-behind scheme via the read-write-backing-map-scheme tag.
Batching is enabled with a write-delay of 5s.
My understanding is that essentially anything that was newly inserted into the cache more than 5 seconds ago becomes eligable for storage.
Our application goes through a bit of a peak-trough cycle. Sometimes very little data is inserted all at once and sometimes a lot is. This results in quite varying batch sizes and big batch sizes do cause issues on our db from time to time.
I can decrease the write-delay to 1s in the hope that this will in turn decrease the batch sizes, but is there a way to set a specific number e.g. I only ever want to write 20 in a batch?

    Hi,
you can just break down that big batch into smaller batches (DB transactions) yourself, and you can also decide that you don't want to write more at the moment.
If you throw an exception Coherence will retry whatever is in the parameter map passed to storeAll and parameter collection to eraseAll. But it does not have to be the full list, it is expected that you remove those entries/elements which you have successfully persisted.
This way you can control the rate of writing yourself. Also, since the write-behind thread does not block event processing, therefore you are sort of safe to do longer waits in those methods if you want to somewhat space out resource transactions without returning from storeAll.
    To answer your question:
    You can either
    - do a physical transaction of 20 elements, remove those 20 elements from the map, then optionally wait and then continue with more elements from the map as long as there are any (this gives you the chance of controlling the rate of transactions).
    - send a physical transaction of at most 20 elements to the database, remove those 20 elements from the map and then throw a dummy exception (in which case Coherence requeues the rest... take care, after this they are considered freshly changed entries).
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • HT201084 can you limit what kids can share from your account

With Family Sharing, do my kids still have to ask permission to download an app that I purchase? I would like to limit what each kid can have from my purchased apps. For example, if I buy a game on my mac mini Family Shared iTunes, can I then decide which kids can download it, or do they all automatically get it?

    Hi,
If you meant "Hide so he Can't... " then the answer is no.
Any Screen Sharing lets the Viewing End the same access as you have.
What you can do is set up a Test User Account on your Mac (System Preferences > Accounts)
This in effect give that User all their own Folders in their Home Folder.
You could put Files, docs and other things in the Public Folder of that account, that you want to "Share, from your Account, so that when you Log in as the Test User they can have access to them.
Public Folders are what other Users on a Mac can "See". They can only Look.
Unless you set up Remote Login in System Preferences > Sharing to behave differently it is also all someone logging in from outside your computer can "see" (like Windows can only see Shared folders).
Once you login as another User your regular User Account is inaccessible apart from the Shared (Public folder only by default) folders.
putting things in the Drop Box in the Test account will make copies of them to do so allowing you to keep unaltered originals.
I hope I have said that clearly enough.
