Can you mainpulate excel graphs in Indesign?

We are transitioning our reports from excel to INdeisgn. We have some simple line graphs created from a series of numbers in Excel. What I'd like to be able to do is place them in Indesign, then apply similar font and colours so it matches the rest of the document.
Is this possible?
Am also finding when I shrink the contents to frame, I lose resolution and the graph starts looking pretty clunky.
Should mention am using CC so could download anotehr programme to ehlp with this if needs be - but only have experience using Indeisgn.
Thanks for any tips

HI Bob,
Would i  be able to format it in Excel (or illustrator) then place it INdesign so it is linked?
The numbers will be updated daily & people who known even less about Indeisgn than I do will be trying to update it!
I can work out how to place tables (by selecting the appropriate cells in the spreadsheet) but not sure about grpahs.
Thanks for your help

It's also possible to copy from AI and paste into ID, but for a complete illustration I don't recommend it.

  • Excel graphs into InDesign

I want to insert my results into InDesign and they are currently displayed as an Excel graph. Direct copy and paste doesn't allow me to resize the graph. Not sure what to do?
    Thanks!

Why can't you resize it? I've done this before myself and had no problem...

  • How can you evaluate a graphed point in numbers

After you make a graph and incorporate a trendline. How can you evaluate that trend line at a specific x/y value point, even if it is not a graphed point in your table?

If you know the constants from the trendline then you can use them to extrapolate.  To get the constants check the "Show Equation" box in the Chart Inspector > Series > Trendline
On the graph you will see the equation for the trendline:
In this case the equation is "y=2.6x + 2"
I added a new column to the data table and named is "Y extrapolated".
    Then I highlighted the graph
Then click on the "sprocket " for the X values in the data table and select the "Share X Values"
Then click and hold the little circle at the bottom right corner of the selection in the table (to add the new column to the graph), then drag to the right one colum (my column is green).
Then in the new column add the formula as shown:
    C7=2.6*A7+2
select C7 and fill down  as need (by clicking and holding on the little circle at the bottom right of the selected cell).
    I hope this helps

  • Can you change the Graphs Colors in BEx Web Analyzer?

    Dear All,
I have few queries I have developed via BEx Query Designer which I am opening from BEx Web Analyzer in portals. Unfortunately the colors in the Graphs are not very pleasant. I was wondering if there is a way we can customize the colors which is given by the standard.
I am aware that we can do this is BEx Report Designer. But I would like to do this is BEx Query Designer.
    Please help..
    Cheers,
    Shanka

    Hi Shanka,
There is no option as such in BEx Query Designer.
You can manipulate and play with colors only in Report designer or Web Application Designer.
In Bex Query designer, you will find only exceptions which are related to colors but chart colors cannot be manipulated in query designer.
If you are executing the report in workbook, you can change accordingly as it is excel.

    KK.

  • Can you set a graph to it's default value programmatically?

I have a waveform graph (control on the panel). I'd like to set it back to it's default value through a property node (or something). Is there a way to do this?

Woah slow down, you've given us 14 minutes to react. I'm not sure but has a graph not a 'reinitialize to default' method?
And out of curiosity, what is the advantage of dynamic data over doubles/waveforms/....? I am totaly NOT familiar with them but if you can be the devils advocate it would be nice.

  • Project Documentation tab: can you 'freeze' a graph so another can be added and compared against?

I've been using the Project Documentation view recently to quickly compare dc signals against changes that I make to an electrical system. What I'm trying to do is capture a few seconds of a DC signal, stop acquisition, make a change in the system, then capture a few more seconds of the same signal and compare the two.
Project Documentation view is nice because I can drag the graphs onto the document for quick on the fly comparison.
Problem is, I drag a acquired signal's graph onto the document expecting the waveform to 'freeze' so that I can capture another segment of data and drag that graph onto the document for comparison. But once I acquire this second burst of data the first graph captures the live waveform, overwriting the baseline waveform I'm trying to compare against.
Is there a way to screencapture or freeze the graph so that multiple graphs can be stacked within the document form without them all updating?

    Hi OKors,
I’m not sure if you can do exactly what you want. If it were me, I would take the first reading, then save it to an LVM file, then take the second reading, store that to an LVM file, then load the files to compare.

  • Can you clarify OverPrint Black in Indesign with the other preference of Rich Black

InDesign offers the option "Overprint [Black] swatch at 100%" and also offers Rich Black on RGB and Greyscale devices. Does it have a Rich Black conversion or should i change [Black] to be Rich Black
    Thanks

When you print any color on a monochrome printer it is converted to a shade of gray (and this is why converting color photos to to grayscale can either really improve them when there is strong contrast but garish color combination, or make them nearly flat if the color values are all very similar). If your text is to be printed, making it rich black is likely to make it fuzzy when printed in color due to minor misregistration between the inks. The normal approach is to make black type overprint any background color to avoid trapping and registration problems.
If you set the preference to output all blacks accurately, as I said before, your 100% coverage on the monochrome printer will be reserved for objects that use rich black and your K-only objects will print as a dark gray (as they would appear in a full-color print when compared to a rich black object).

  • Can you include hyperlinks in an indesign doc. exported to HTML?

Trying to send an email newsletter that has images/hyperlinks and maintains its format.
When you export an indesign doc. into html code will the hyperlinks still work?
If so, what do I have to do to make sure that the links and images work after sending it in email body.
Thanks very much - any help is warranted

Hi, I was just wondering if you got the problem resolved. I'm asking because we are experiencing kind of the same issue in our office. Our Marketing Manager is using Adobe InDesign and exports her documents to PDF. These PDFs won't print in any of our printers in the office. It spools and then gets stuck and it actually makes our HP Coloured Laser Printer throw an error (error 79) and we'll have to restart the printer due to this error. We can print other documents and other PDFs in the printer so we know it's not a printer driver issue. In fact, we have isolated the problem to only PDFs exported from InDesign. Even if we create a blank document from InDesign and export it to PDF it still won't print. Really odd. We would appreciate if you could share your solution if you were able to fix the issue. Thanks!!

  • Can you open Photoshop files in InDesign?

Is it possible to open a file which is created by Indesign ?

    Hello.
I'm not at my CS6 suite right now. But I would guess PS could not open an ID file  in an editable way. You can try saving your ID project out as a PDF, then Photoshop should be able to open it rasterized (if multi-page, each page would become a separate PS document.) But vector and text would be rendered as pixels.

  • Can you do excel spreadsheets on iPad

Is it possible to do excel spreadsheets on iPad 1, can't find any apps on app store, they all seem to be tutorials on excel

IMHO, if you are dealing with excel files that have any significant level of complexity, the iPad is the wrong device. Basic stuff, as pointed out above, can be handled on the iPad, but only if you can live with the limitations and the smaller screen format.

  • CAn you use excel connection manager to connect to a folder that is protected with a username and password?

I have folder on my server that my ssis package needs to get into. I have an excel file that I am connecting to using Excel Connection Manager. My ssis package is unable to connect to the folder. How do I get this to work. Thank you

    Hi RythmMusic,
I am not sure how the folder is protected with username and password, Are you talking about folder is at restricted access and rest it ask you to punch window credential. In that case you need to run the ssis package with account which have access to that
folder or use a proxy account to run under.
If it protected from third party software then it need to decrypted by that third party software only. SSIS won;t be able to help here.

  • Can you convert a PDF to InDesign?

I have another question: Is there any way to convert PDF files back to  InDesign without downloading a converter plug-in? It seems to make sense  that Adobe would have a tool for this function, but I haven't had any  luck in finding it.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

You asked this question already as part of another thread. Please look there for responses.

  • Acrobat X Pro - can you export to a editable InDesign document?

I have a few pdf files containing multiple pages which I have got corrupted indesign files of. Does anyone know if the 5.5 version and X Pro can export the pdf back to a working indesign file?

There is no way to export an InDesign file from any version of Acrobat.
That said, there is pretty good (but not inexpensive) software from Recosoft called PDF2ID which can CONVERT PDF files to InDesign files. Conversion implies that it can do a pretty good job in most cases.
    http://www.recosoft.com/products/pdf2id/
According to the product description, "PDF2ID recreates the intended construction and layout of the document by forming paragraphs; applying styles; regrouping independent graphic elements; extracting images; creating tables; recovering annotations and other elements automatically. PDF2ID converts every page in a PDF file to an equivalent page in the resulting InDesign document."

  • Can you override scaled type in indesign CS6?

I have many charts that have been made over the course of multiple years. I now need to have them all on the same page. I'd like to respecify the type without recreating all the charts from scratch. Although I am highlighting and putting in the correct point size it is not allowing me to hold it. And is giving me a (6.5 pt) sort of thing next to the 7 I am putting in. Is there any way to get rid of that old scaling so I can make all my trick charts print in the same point size?

There's a menu in the upper right of your work area. With the text box selected, choose Redefine scaling as 100%
(it's greyed out in my screen shot because what i had selected was not scaled, but it will be available if you have scaled content selected)
