Can you max out a library?

I want to know how many images you can successfully manage in Aperture before performance gets too slow to deal with. I'm at 55K+ in my library and I think I might be better off breaking it up into a couple of different libraries.
Any advice or experience to share is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

No, you can't really "max out" a library. Certainly, if you use a managed library, you run the risk of running out of disk space on the drive that holds the library. You could of course use something like an Xserve RAID or a Promise RAID that would give you a drive in the 10+ TB size... which is a lot more than 55K images
Anyway, Aperture essentially breaks your photos into projects, and they start getting "creaky" around 10K images. But I don't think with 55K images you're getting near any kind of limit... I read an article in Digital Photo Pro last year about a pro photographer who had about 20 TB of images in Aperture. He was using a single referenced library and his images were across 3 Xserve RAIDs.

  • HT1364 can you move an itunes library from pc to mac?

    Hi everyone,
The days of my laptop are nearing the end and I'm strongly leaning towards purchasing a macbook. Can you transfer your media library from pc to mac?
Can you export a copy your library onto an external drive as I don't know how much longer this laptop will last?
    Thanks for the help

Sorry, I obviously wasn't clear. If you replicate the library from Computer 1 to Computer 2 by copying it, then all will be well. I routinely sync my iPhone and iPad both at home and at work using a single library that I migrate between the two locations via an external drive which is kept up do date using SyncToy.
Backup the iPod touch on Computer 1.
Copy the entire iTunes folder from Computer 1 to Computer 2, replacing any existing iTunes folder on Computer 2.
Check that content is accessible in the migrated library. (Won't be a problem for a standard iTunes library where all the content is inside the iTunes Media folder which in turn is inside your iTunes folder).
Connect iPod touch to Computer 2.
    Sync.
In the unlikely event that something goes wrong (it won't) then you can connect the device back to Computer 1 to restore it.
Note device backups are not stored within the iTunes library and stay on the machine on which they were created. It is theorectically possible to migrate them but there isn't really any point. Once you have synced the iPod with the copy of the library on Computer 2 then Computer 2 will make its own backup of the device.

How can you find out what generation your iPod touch is?

    Hi,
Here is help for the operating system:
If you are locked to iOS 3 then you have an iPod Touch 1st Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 4 then you have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 5 then you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
If you are locked to iOS 6 then you have an iPod Touch 4th Gen.
If you can get iOS 7 and have an iPhone 5 sized screen [bigger] you have the current iPod Touch 5th Gen.
I assume since it says you have iOS 5.1.1 you have an iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
Also, you may want to sync it so iTunes can tell you or you can look at the model number on the back.
    Hope this helped.

Oh, have you brought up so many good points. Not to take us off-topic, but I could rant all day about Eloqua consulting firms who let low-level employees (Eloqua skill-wise) loose on clients projects. Just not fair for either the employee or client. There was one company that did this to me a few years ago, and since then dozens of people have asked me about them for a reference.  Needless to say, they never get a good one from me, and have likely lost hundreds of thousands of dollars in projects because of this. Not worth it in the long-run to cut corners.
Back to the topic at hand....
You really hit the nail on the head in so many ways. It really all does come down to one thing: hard work. There are no shortcuts. Always keep learning. Embrace every Eloqua challenge you can, and never say never.  Never be fearful of being wrong by asking something 'silly', or 'looking stupid'. I remember several times that I've submitted Eloqua support tickets, or tickets to other related vendors about things that I was convinced were bugs/major issues. Turned out to be my mistake. But that's ok. You brush off, stand back up, and learn from them.
And finally, be modest.  You will never know everything about Eloqua. Be willing to learn from others, and know that there actually may be a better way to do something than you may have spent days or weeks working on.

    Hi, Forrest!
The Chipmunk site was my first thought when I read the initial post, but although it returns a manufacturing date of the fourth week (Jan) of 2003, I'm not sure that's even accurate, since Chipmunk couldn't return any more info than that.
I wonder if an Apple Store Genius would/could look it up for him...
