Can you migrate 10.7.x to 10.9.x?

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed before but I have a four year old iMac 27" running 10.9.1 with lots of software I would like to maintain.  I am giving the computer to my wife.   Her 20" iMac is seven years old and running 10.7.5.   It is not an Intel based iMac although my 27" is.
Quick question:  will Migration Assistant all me to transfer say some of her applications (notably Mail, iTunes, iPhoto plus she has certain Safari settings for getting into work servers) or do I have to set up by hand?

I think the Migration Assistant will transfer all of her information found in her user account (which is all her emails, photos, music, websites, etc.
The way to connect both computers before Thunderbolt used to be what was called Target Disk mode using a Firewire cable between the two computers. Perhaps it is sophisticated enough to be able to do this wirelessly now. If not, you will need a short firewire cable and a firewire to thunderbolt adapter to connect your two iMacs.
Once connected, restart your wife's old iMac holding down the T key to send it to Target disk mode, it should mount up on you other iMac's desktop. The run MA to transfer everything.
Hope this helps.

  • Can you migrate just one file(iPhoto) to a MacBook Pro?

How do you migrate from a MacAir to. New 13 in MacBook Pro the iPhoto file, everything else came thru Icloud

    Yes, you can.
The iPhoto Library contains all your iPhoto contents, it's in your Pictures folder on the account on the MacAir.
If you just want one photo out, then you can right click on iPhoto Library and "show package contents" and inside is a fodler called Originals, open that and locate your picture and copy it over.
You also can export via the iPhoto program on the Air.
Use a external drive or USB thumb drive depending how much you have.
If your Air is worthless as a machine and you need to access the storage drive...
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?
As a note, just because your iTunes may have come through iCloud doesn't mean it's safe, supposedly someone here deleted their old machine data and thus all the newer machines iTunes music disappeared....
I don't trust or use the Cloud for anything after reading horror stories like that and others...

  • Can you migrate directly from 10.4.11 to 10.8?

I have new Imac with 10.8 and want to migrate all my files from my old Imac with 10.4.11.  Can I do that?

It is not that easy.    Unless you happen to have all Intel Mac applications on your 10.4 machine, a lot that will transfer will either slow your machine down, or be incompatible.   This is what you need to be aware of: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
Also, the compatibility listing here while good is not entirely up to date:
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Any entries in the listing prior to Mountain Lion's release (July 25, 2012) are to be taken with a grain of salt as far as Mountain Lion's compatibility.     These were made prior to the actual release being finalized, and may give you false hope about compatibility.  The entries for Lion though after July 20, 2011 should be considered, as most applications that are Lion compatible are also Mountain Lion compatible.  I know of one really glaring exception, and that's iPhoto 8.1.2.  There may be others.

  • Can you migrate from a Nook to an iPad?

I currently have a Nook (Barnes and Noble).  If I buy an iPad, can I bring my books over from the Nook to the iPad or do I lose them?

    Thank you.
Don't forget that on your iPad, you can also read iBooks from the
iTunes store. And there is an app to read kindle books as well.
Enjoy your new iPad. If you have any other questions, post again

  • Can you move your system onto a new, larger hard drive?

OK, so I bought a 4 GB RAM upgrade and a 320 GB 7200 rpm hard disk to beef up my Mini. But it has a lot of apps installed and I don't relish the thought of re-installing it all from scratch. So my question is - Can you migrate the entire system onto another, bigger hard drive, realizing that it will go onto a larger disk partition than it came from? Right now I have the 320 GB disk in an external USB case. So can I back everything over to this USB drive and make it bootable and then swap the disks?

OK campers. This is how it went down. I bought an IOGear external eSATA case for the 320 GB drive. After fooling around a bit I finally figured out how to get the drive initialized so it showed up. I then downloaded SuperDuper and backed all files from the old 120 GB over to the new drive. I selected the new drive as startup disk to make sure I could boot from it. Having successfully done that, I went to Other World Computing's site for Mini Upgrades, and played their installation video on my laptop. I followed the video instructions and had the new RAM and hard disk installed in about 20 minutes. One thing they don't use in the video is an anti static wrist strap. I had one and used it. I highly recommend to all attempting this, to get one at Radio Shack. They are a cheap insurance against damaging your Mac with static electricity. All in all, this was an easy upgrade and I am writing this on the "new" Mini, which is running sweet, with lots of 'elbow room'.

  • Can you merge two user accounts on macbook? my wife has created a user on her new macbook , then inadvertently created a second one when using the migration tool. 1st ac has her office 365 install, yet 2nd has her itunes database, docs and contacts.

Can you merge two user accounts on a macbook? my wife has created a new user on her new macbook air then, inadvertently, created a second one when using the migration tool. 1st a/c has her office 365 install, while 2nd has her itunes database, docs and contacts. What is the best way forward to get everything into the one account? Not sure if the office 365 will allow another installation into the second account, otherwise would just do that and delete the first, if that is possible?

There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files.  Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User.

  • Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now.

Can you upgrade from 1.3.0.20 small ovf to 2.1 without migrating to a new server? It sounds like you can just adjust the server settings now. I am currently running 1.3.0.20 and I have enough to do with also needing to upgrade my wlc to 7.4.121.0 and getting the MSE up to 7.4.121.0 without having to stand up a new server if I don't have to. Please share any information you have in regards to your experience with coming from a version 1.2-1.3 small ovf and going to 2.1.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

You are better off standing up a new server.  It's cleaner and safer..... you can always try to upgrade if you wish, but if things don't work out well, then you just wasted a lot of time.  Snapshot the VM and export the floor plans, just in case.  The ova is built around the DB size, so I don't know how well the DB will perform if you try to expand memory or drive space after an upgrade.

  • When using the migrate tool to migrate from windows to mac, can you use ethernet to connect the computers to each other?

When using the migrate tool to migrate from windows to mac, can you use ethernet to connect the computers to each other? In the Migration tool, I was only given the option of choosing the computer when it appeared on the same network, and didn't see an option to connect them to each other. Even though they're both connected to the same network with a wired connection, the migration is painfully slow.

Yes. The following quotation is from About Windows Migration Assistant
These are the preferred network connections, in order:
Use a CAT6-certified Ethernet cable that is in good condition to connect the Ethernet port of the PC directly to the Ethernet port of the Mac or Ethernet adaptor (USB or Thunderbolt). You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
Use CAT6-certified Ethernet cables that are in good condition to connect the Mac and PC to your home network router/hub/switch. You shouldn't use an Ethernet cable that has any kinks in it or is missing connector tabs.
For wireless, use the fastest wireless signal possible (802.11n 5Ghz). Try to have the PC, Mac, and the wireless access point all in the same room close to each other.

Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Hi!
Just for future reference, I've moved my site to http://pondini.org, since Apple is dropping web hosting in June.
Both sites are active now;  after a few days, I'll put redirect notices on the old one, then leave it there until it goes "poof."

  • Custom Report: Can you hyperlink to a task or requisition?

Custom Report: Can you hyperlink to a task or requisition?
When defining, configuring a custom form based report, how do you hyperlink to the task item or requistion?

    Hi
I've had this one answered with our yes! hours, I'm sure it came up in the training too - I'm assuming you are using advanced reporting?
If your requisition URL is http://servername/RequestCenter/myservices/navigate.do?requisitionId=18954&query=requisition you would need to create a colum in the report with the expression
    'http://servername/RequestCenter/myservices/navigate.do?requisitionId=' || cast ([REQUISITIONID],VARCHAR(10)) || '&performerID=&query=requisition'
You would then need to insert a hyperlink type column and make the value of the computed value your hyperlink - I chose to make my ReqID the display name. As you are hardcoding the URL in, you will need to change it as you migrate between environments.
Hope this helps - it is going to make drill downs a lot easier for us now.

  • How can I migrate from Outlook 2011 to iCal and Apple Address Book in Mavericks now that synching is no longer possible?

Now that I am on Mavericks and no longer able to sync between my iPhone/iPad and Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro, I'm finally taking the leap (which I should have done long ago) and abandoning Outlook 2011 all together (doesn't help that Outlook now prompts me to rebuild by Identity multiple times per day). I am hoping to export from Outlook to iCal, Address Book, etc, but I would love it if someone could check my steps.
Delete iCal and Apple Address Book content -- Because I have old data in iCal and Address Book (that was synched before I upgraded to Mavericks), I planned to delete this data as follows:
Manually deleting my multiple calendars in the iCal app
Go to Go>Home>Library>Calendars and drag "Calendar Cache" to trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Caches and drag "com.apple.iCal" and "com.apple.AddressBook" to the trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Application Support and drag "Address Book" to the trash
Export Outlook 2011 Calendars to iCalIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into iCal? I will use this file format to individually export each of my calendars from Outlook 2011 and import them into iCal.
Export Outlook 2011 Contact List to Apple Address BookIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into Apple Address Book?
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi acs4055,
As per your query I found a relevant solution for resolving this,  actually I haven’t tried the steps you wrote here in your query.  But I found a solid key answer for exporting from Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Outlook 2011 to iCal for Apple mail. This is possible through Drag and Drop method via this you can undoubtedly migrate Outlook 2011 Calendar to ical format.
Hope it will assist you and you will be able to attain a desired solution.
