  • Can you mount a an Xserve vertically?

Can you mount a an Xserve vertically?

As Alex mentioned, you can mount it vertically. I use the Marathon Stand in my environment -- works great. Bought mine on ebay.
Finding these stands now is not so easy, but in the UK you can still get them from Zomp:
    http://www.zomp.net/shop/productinfo.php?productsid=240014
Expensive when compared to what they sold for in US$.
For the Xserve RAID, there is still an option available:

  • Can you connect an iMac to a Lynksys router without an airport express

can you connect an iMac to a Lynksys router without an airport express or base? I tried running it from cable>modem> wireless router and it doesn't sling to the iMac. The airport card in the Mac does seem to be on, and there is a network connection set up. It's an intel iMac7,1. I'm not familiar with Mac, I'm trying to help out a friend.
At my house I have the same configuration going  from my PC to an old Mac laptop and it works fine.
I think my friend had her wifi network set up properly, or it wouldn't be showing in the list of networks when I check.
    the router is a Lynksys WRT160N V3.
Oh, and if I do run her computer trying to use the wireless, I don't get an internet connection at all. I have to have it hardwired straight to the modem.
Sorry I've asked this twice, but I haven't had any luck. I must just not know where to find things on the Mac. I did try other places in forum before posting again.
    Any ideas? Thanks

We don't know a thing about your iMac or what version of OS X it's running so it's very difficult to help you. Please note that information and also please complete your profile, then that infomation will be listed when you post in your next thread. You can complete your profile by clicking Your Stuff in the upper right of this page then click Profile and fill in the pertinent information.

    Csound1--
If you mean does the network appear on the Mac when I look for it, then yes.
I think my friend had her wifi network set up properly, or it wouldn't be showing in the list of networks when I check.
    the router is a Lynksys WRT160N V3.
I don't think she has the security code so I can check what's actually hooked up (the network name on screen at least appears to be locked). She's had the computer out to the shop and back recently and has never even run anything off the wireless.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to call her cable provider to sort it out. I'm hoping to avoid that. I don't know Mac at all. I could troubleshoot on my PC.
Ultimately, I want to be able to hook a Roku box to her TV to run Netflix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Can you use one iMac with two iphones for updates and itunes? It erased my husband's apps on his phone when I tried to sync.

I am sure there is a way to sync both my iphone and my husband's iphone on our one iMac...when I connected my husband's for the first time it recognized it as a different phone, but would let me save his apps to itunes like it saved mine earlier...  can we have both of our iphone's info on our one itunes account?

When you connected his iphone did you click File>Transfer Purchases?
This would transfer any ituens purchases from iphone to computer.
You can sync as many iphones as you like to one computer/account/library.

  • Can you open a Imac G5 w/ Isight???

    I have 2 iMacs: one is a 20inch without isight, and one is a 17in w/ isight
I can open the older one easly (just 3 screws on the bottom). But can I open the newer iMac (The on with iSight)?
    Thanks in advance

"It seems kinda lame that you can't get into Apple's computers(not even to vacuum out the dust bunnies)"
Not exactly a true statement. The iSight models are the ONLY G5 iMacs that are not self repairable except for RAM installation.

  • ?: Can you recommend an iMac for me?

Hello and thank you in advance for your input...
I would like to explain my situation and have you give me your recommendations for which iMac would be my best bet...
    1. I will be running Photoshop CC on it and work with large TIFF files within Photoshop
    2. Screen size does not matter. I would be happy with either a 21" or 27"
    3. I do not run more than one application at a time
    4. Im trying to keep the price down, but not to the point where i really suffer with performance
    I would like to know:
    1. Which iMac you would recommend, the 21 or 27
    2. Can i get by with an i5 processor
    3. Is 16 GIG of RAM enough
    4. Which drive would you recommend, im thinking the fusion would be best considering performance and price
Thanks so much for helping me. I really appreciate your expertise.
    best to you,
    rick

  • Can you sync the iMac to the MacBook?

I am new to Apple and love them!
Is there any way to sync the i Mac to the Mac Book so that all the files are the same on both machines after traveling etc.?

    Yes.
    1. Get an external hard drive large enough for the larger hard drive in the iMac or the Macbook. Start be being sure you have identical OS X versions on both computers (be sure it's not just the version, but the build. The newest models may have a different build.) Then clone one of the computers to the external drive. Move the external drive to the other computer and boot from the external drive. Clone the external drive to the other computer. Periodically you can update the clone on the external drive, then re-clone to the other computer.
    2. If all you need is to maintain your documents then get a USB flash drive (available up to 32 GBs) and simply copy changed documents to the flash drive in order to transfer them to the other computer.
    3. Connect the two computers via your home network. Enable File Sharing (Sharing preferences) so you can copy documents back and forth between the two computers over the network.

  • Can you mount a skypephone in archlinux?

Hello, I am trying to mount a skypephone S2 in archlinux via USB.  When I connect it to the computer, lsusb gives
Bus 005 Device 015: ID 1614:1000 Amoi Electronics
Which I am pretty sure is the phone.  I pacmanned a few tools like wammu and gnokki, basically whatever I could find that I thought might work, but all that I can get when I connect the phone is a useless driver "CD" mounted on the desktop which contains windows drivers.
Yeah, so basically, how do I get files from the skypephone to my computer via USB?  I'm kind of sure it's possible because I remember doing it at some point, though I don't quite remember how.
    Gratitude expressed in advance!

How do I know?  I don't.  It was a quote.  From arunix. (Above)
I personally did not believe that it would be "just connect it and mount it".  If it did, I would probably die of a heart attack.

  • Can you facetime from imac i5 to an ipad2 using the same apple id on both devices?

i'm pretty sure you can't but before i set up another email address just so i can facetime the ipad2 i thought i'd ask.
thank you in advance for any answers!

no you will need to create a new id for one of the devices because you are not able to facetime yourself with the same id for some reason probably has to do with communication issues but the accounts are free so just create a new account on one of them

  • How can you get a imac to boot from install disc(external drive)

It tries for a while then says you have inserted a disc mas osx does not recognize.

    sirmark1:
Thanks for the clarification. It helps to get a better grasp of the situation.
If you have not already done so, try this:
    • With computer shut off insert disk in external optical drive.
    • Start up computer and immediately after chime hold down Option key.
    • If CD shows up select it and click the straight arrow.
However, the version of Mail you get from Jaguar will be the earliest version of Mail, whereas the version of Mail in Panther is 1.3.1. You can download 10.3.9 Combo Update and either install the update, or try to extract Mail from the Combo update using Pacifist
Hope one of those work for you.

  • Can you use your iMac 27" as an external Monitor for a PC?

After doing a bunch of research I figured it's not possible to do on models later then 2010, BUT I came across a few motherboards (Asus Z87-DELUXE)
that have thunderbolt capability and obviously before I go out and spend $400 I'd like to know if it's 100% possible.
So, would it be possible to run a thunderbolt cable from a PC to an iMac to use it as a standalone monitor or would the iMac completely reject it purely based on the fact it's not a apple product?
Or could you just use the "Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter" to get it to work?

Even though the PC motherboard might have Thunderbolt capability you need to research further to see if the Thunderbolt port on the board supports video out and is certified to work in Target Display Mode. To date I have not seen any that meet this criteria, another PC shortcoming. Also you may benefit by reading Apple's FAQ on Target Display Mode, at least book mark it.

  • How can you rename your iMac owner's name after migration to new iMac?

I bought a new iMac and after the migration of old files etc to new one, it retained the owner name of the old one and I can't find out how to change it.

Never mind, the solution came up after I submitted the question and all is fine.

  • Can You mount a mac Pro In a case for On the Road work

I do audio pre and post production and I was thinking aobu ttaking a mac pro and putting it in a rack sideways . I know that the HD need pins(I think) to do that But I dont really know much else. any suggestions are appreciated

The MacPro is not a small tower. I don't think it will fit in a standard 19" rack case on it's side, even if you hack-sawed off the feet and handles (and who'd want to do that?!)
You can rack your Mac vertically with this deal: (it says G5 but I think the case is the same size for MacPro?)
    http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=876
And there are up to 5 rackspaces vertically for your outboard gear. This thing is the converter only and you still need to get a 12 space rack.
