I recently inherited a web site and unfortunately not the graphics. I REALLY need to re-do the client banner, but can't figure out the font of the logo within the blue 1/2 globe.

 I isolated the image of the font, the uploaded the image to
<a href="http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/" style="color: teal; text-decoration: underline;">What The Font?!</a>. The tricky part about fonts like this is that they are built to use small caps for lower-case characters, so when you go through the identifying process on What The Font, you have to make sure you use your keyboard to enter (and in some cases

change to...
) the lower-case characters in the fields provided.

Can you name this effect?

I'm looking for the name of the effect with which you could, for instance, highlight one person's face in a group photo. Where the scene would be darkened except for the person's face? Something like the Vignette filter but able to be specifically located and controlled. Is this effect available in FCE? Thanks very much.

You can make it manually with the Mask Shape filter and a couple of layers of the clip. There is no filter built into FCE to do, but it's simple enough to do.

Can you ID this FONT?

Really want to know what font this is (the "MIAMI" part). Any ideas? I suppose it could be custom lettering, but wouldn't that be a shame!?

But you only need the light font so that only costs $30.
But if this is something you will be using for a client in various weights then it is quite reasonable at $80.00.
Back in the old days to purchase Headline type set up the way you show it would cost you more than $80.00.
If it was someone like me setting the type it would easily cost twice that.
Everyone worries about the cost of a font these days but if you think Adobe complete Collection is costly it is not when you consider that one annual report used to cost between $25,000 and $100,000, with the incredible amount to revisions they made, just to se the type.
That does not include making the mechanicals art or the design or photography.
So in a way we are getting away with a lot at a very low cost.
Just thought I would put things in perspective.

Absolutely, I agree. It's what I currently use (along with a power-combo of Open Sans Semibold & Ubuntu for GUI/text).

Okay. I think you misunderstood a few things here. That's alright. Please re-read my post in the context of it being an opinionated review. Note that the first metaphor is illustrating the disparity I experienced in 'seeing vs using' the font. Also, assume the reader (you) to be the subject in the 'write/read' sentence. As for the 2 people with opinions on record, well, I guess I'm glad to be the third.

Can you name this device?

I have this wireless keyboard that I acquired over a year ago. I bought it off ebay with no knowledge of this strange connection. It is definitely a mac keyboard, but the wireless sensor has a weird connection plug that doesn't match any port on the emac. It has what looks like two PS/2 plugs, a male and female head. I cannot describe it any better than that, but I have pictures. I just want to find what the heck this thing is and if it would be possible to get an adapter to USB. Just check out the pics. Any help is appreciated.

I actually use a microsoft digital media pro right now and I have programed the sleep key to eject the cd tray. When I bought the wireless one it was because I had this emac coming in the mail with no keyboard. I was so new to Mac that I wanted to have a Mac keyboard too. When I got the wireless off of ebay I had no idea it wouldn't hook up. I ended up going out to Best Buy and getting the microsoft after I realized there were no holes on the computer that fit the plugs, lol. Anyway, I dug the wireless out of a box yesterday while cleaning and wanted to see if it was possible to make use of it. Since it doesn't seem cost effective to play around with converters or that USB kit mentioned in the article, I just gave it to my daughter to play with this morning. Now it is nicely decorated with seashells and stickers. I really appreciate all of your help.

Fonts look blurry in the overall menu in this new version of browser (v.4). I tried all the options that you specified with the ClearType an so on... It seems that the problem is not from Windows 7 because the old version looks ok. Can you solve this shortcoming ?
Until you resolve it I'll stay with the previous version (3.6.16) which it looks really good.

Yea, when I actually install my applications and launch them from GNOME Shell's menu or launcher the fonts look as blurry as they do when I launch them from Anjuta. Other applications look fine and with the workarounds I described above, my own applications display nicely too when launched from either GNOME Shell or Anjuta.

I open gmail. I want to save an email to one of my folders.
I position my cursor over the appropriate Folder icon or by choice, to the Trash.
The friendly finger pointing cursor icon changes to an arrow icon.
The hand icon allows me flawless access to opening and/or moving emails.
The arrow, however does not open the link.
On the Google menu bar the cursor hand with finger opens the links to Everett (my name), Search, Images, Maps and Play.
When I attempt to open the remaining links in the menu bar (YouTube, News, Gmail, Drive, Calendar and More) the arrow icon replaces the hand. The arrow icon does not work. It will not activate these links. Nor does it open email messages in the Inbox.
Usually I reset, even reboot Safire and sometimes the problem goes away, then reappears.
Can you imagine if this condition should it happen to a tech savvy Google Support person? Perhaps one can share and make my problem go away.
I am considering dropping Google as my mail source. Unfortunate!

I have uninstalled my Access Connection, but this problem seems to persist. IBM technician have changed the wireless card of my T60, the first few days after it was changed was very fine, no problem at all. About a week later, the problem occured again, and it happened quite frequently after that occurence. Now i really have no idea what is the cause and how to solve it. Java arrays - can you name the keys?

i have 1 function that declares 2 ArrayLists of type String. They are the same size and the values are related. Let's call them A & B.
I was hoping i could have my function return just 1 array, with the values of arraylist A being they keys of the returned array, and the values of arraylist B being the values in the returned array.
But can you name the elements of an array in java? in php you can, but in java, the only examples i have seen only use the standard #'s: 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. if you can, please post sample syntax.
i guess i could use a double scripted array, but... well i don't exactly know what the sytax would be for that in declaring the funciton.
if someone has a link of these kinds of examples / topics they could send me - that would be great too - i googled it but haven't really come across any.

It appears as though what you are trying to do is associate a specific "key" value with another value. For example, let's say you want the word "dog" to be the key for the arraylist value of "bull dog."
The perfect data structure for this that Java provides is called a Map. Here is some sample code.
//create something called a HashMap where the first
//value is the key, and the second value is the value
//that the key is associated with
HashMap<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>();
//now, consider the previous example...
//here is the syntax for storing those values
map.put("dog", "bull dog");
//and this would be the syntax for getting a value
String value = map.get('dog");
//which would give "bull dog"

Don't want to block the person, just have all his texts going directly to my email so that I can maintain a continuous record of his text contacts (rather than remain in text form).
It appears that I must select an option that makes ALL texts go to email, which I'd prefer not doing.

How can you change the font size in the application and system headers? I searched the system and finder prefs to no avail. Changing the screen density is not a good option.

I downloaded Tinkertool. Found the font section and increased the size of most selections. The only thing that changed that I can see is the window label. The apple line, bookmarks line, the tool bar in safari are all the same---font size of about 4. Found the finder "show view options" but that didn't seem to change anything either. I'll keep working. Restarted all apps after changes as well.
