Can you network dvd/blu-ray drives?

I was wondering i have two "living rooms" both have a tv's and one has a hp media center pc with a blu-ray/hd-dvd drive in it, and i was thinking of putting a apple tv on the other. but is it possible to network the blu-ray drive to the apple tv? i know with shuttle pc's you can network dvd drives so i was thinking you can do the same with an apple tv?

  • Problems with IQ810UK DVD Blu Ray Drive

    Hi - My IQ810uk is only a few weeks old and I'm having trouble already...
    My DVD / Blu Ray drive is playing up....  It seems really tempremental.  I put purchased Audio CD's in and they are not recognized every time.
    Also, I'm trying to import my cd's into iTunes but they nearly always get stuck on track 7 or 8.  I have not had one cd import correctly yet!  It just seems a bit of a coincedence that it stops on the same tracks.
    I tried the same cds on my old pc and they worked first time.  Its as if the drive gets to a certain point on the disc and then stops.
    I'm really disappointed with this PC - never had so many problems with a new computer - especially one that cost £1500!

    i suspect your itunes is a bit dodgy, only because you don't see the same issue when playing the same music in WMP....  however also sounds to me your drive might not be functioning all that well - you might want to check the windows event logs for any system errors that relate to the dvd drive, if there are errors then probably best to call HP Support, I'd say call HP Support regardless as it does sound like the dvd drive is playing up...

    This ebay seller apparently has the drives for all HP models...the exact part number you need (depends on whether yours is black or biscotti in color) is in the prior link above.I would contact the seller in advance with a question and be sure he has your exact model as he seems to be selling IDE drives and I am sure yours is a SATA interface.

    $139 is not too bad. A Blu-Ray reader with a DVD burner was an option on your laptop series so it can work. You likely will need to add Blu-Ray playback software to watch movies. If you wanted a Blu-Ray burner the answer is even more complex so I hope you only meant you want a drive to watch Blu-Ray movies.

  • Satellite P200-1EE - Can I get a Blu-Ray drive for it?

    At last, Toshiba have joined the BDA!!!!!!
    Does any one know if or when they will release a Blu-Ray drive to replace the HD-DVD drives in a P200-1EE?
    I know this post may be little premature but I have felt betrayed ever since buying the laptop and 3 weeks later Toshiba dropping the HD-DVD format.

    Hi!
    I dont know when Toshiba will release a Bluray drive that you can buy to exchange it with your HD-DVD drive.
    But maybe a drive from another manufacture will also work on your notebook. In your case I would go to the nearest computer shop and ask for such a drive. Maybe you can test it in the shop if it works because not all drives are compatible with all notebooks (e. g. pin assignment).
    Good luck!

  • How to know if my HP Pavilion Notebook can support Super Multi Blue-Ray drive?

    Hi,
    My HP laptop is:
    HP Pavilion dv6-6093ex Entertainment Notebook PC support
    LM610EA#A2N
    How to know if my HP Pavilion Notebook can support Blue-Ray drive?.
    I need to install a Super Multi Blue-Ray drive, with these capabilites::: read and write all types of disc formats in one convenient package: CD±R, DVD ±R ,  CD±RW, DVD±RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, DVD-RAM and Blu-ray disc.
    If it can support, then I must purchase HP Blue-ray device, or I can purchase any other brands, such as  LG 16x Internal Blu Ray/DVD/CD Burner Writer Drive + sata data & power cables .
    First of all: my Optical drive is: LightScribe SuperMulti DVD±R/RW with Double Layer Support, and with the capabilities
    hp CDDVDW TS-L633R
    Media Type DVD Writer
    Name hp CDDVDW TS-L633R

    Write capabilities CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL
    Config Manager Error Code Device is working properly
    Config Manager User Config FALSE
    Drive E:
    Media Loaded FALSE
    SCSI Bus 0
    SCSI Logical Unit 0
    SCSI Port 0
    SCSI Target Id 1
    Status OK

    Anyway, Could you please confirm for me this the Maximum resolution of my VGA is 1366 by 768 pixels, and cannot be extended.
    That is correct.  It cannot be extended.  That is the limit for the built-in display.  Using an external display that is capable of higher resolution might help in that matter but then you loose the portability of the laptop.
    I came across a free BluRay player just this week, it is found here. Leawo Blu-ray player: http://www.leawo.org/blu-ray-player/
     It is the only free BluRay player I have found.
    That is about all I can do to help.  The other possibility would be to get an external Bluray drive that can fulfill all your  expectations, give you lightscribe, and possibly a BluRay player included with the purchase.  It would be much less worrisome on your part and there would not be any modifications to the laptop.

  • How do I region lock a DVD/Blu-Ray drive?

    I want to region lock my drives. So e.g. I want to lock a DVD drive on one computer to region 1 and another drive on another computer(or the same computer) to region 2. Is there a safe fool proof way of doing that? Thanks.

    Hi
    It's not a relevant question - In iDVD forum as
    iDVD - can only make one region setting = region 0 (Zero)
    This means that DVDs if made for the right TV-Standard (NTSC or PAL) will play in ALL REGIONS.
    TV-Standard - is something else and can be set for each new DVD project.
    • PAL = 25 frames per second (fps) (EU)
    • NTAC = 29.97 fps (USA)
    Do not let iDVD convert material from one to the other ! iDVD tries to do it - BUT RESULTING DVD is poor or Worse.
    (I use JES_Deinterlacer) to do this - does it so much better and is free)

  • Blu ray drive

    Hello there! I was looking into buying a 27" iMac and using that as my go to display for movies, music, and photos. I read recently that iMac computers will be doing away with the optical drives and was wondering if anyone could tell me about USB peripherals? Like a DVD/Blu-ray drive? Thank you for your time.

    I've researched into this quite thoroghly, and surprisingly, there aren't enough in the market, to support this. However you can get a cheap one, for around 50 pounds, but you will need a software to actually play the blu ray dvds.
    I myself have ordered the 27inch, and need to buy one and will most likely will be buying this one, as I am very into sleekness and minimalism. I think with this drive, you do need a software, but apparently I think Toast seems to work, but I would recommend, looking a review for this on youtube, as they can be very helpful.

    Also, companies like LaCie do two types, check their website.
    I have also looked into whether thunderbolt port or a USB 3.0 connection would make the writing process quicker, but apparently it doesn't. but somehow I can't stop to think that there may be a thunderbolt version in the future.

  • Blu Ray drive/burner can't write dual layer DVD - W500 Vista 64

    I recently did a clean Vista 64 Business install on a new hard drive. I pretty much have everything up and going, except the Blu Ray drive doesn't recognize that it can write dual layer DVDs. I ran Nero InfoTool and it, too, tells me that the drive cannot write dual layer DVDs. (Pretty much everything in InfoTool is checked, read and write, except all the HD-DVDs and the dual layer DVD write functions.) Does anyone have any ideas? My understanding is that the drive can write dual layer DVDs.

    I'll answer this with the same information that I posted at TPF:
    From: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70234
    Reads or writes data with speedy maximum data transfer rates of:
    * 16x maximum (writing to CD-R media)
    * 10x maximum (writing to CD-RW media)
    * 5x maximum (writing to DVD-RAM media)
    * 8x maximum (writing to DVD+/-R media)
    * 4x maximum (writing to DVD+/-RW media)
    * 2x maximum (writing to BD-R/RE SL media)
    * 1x maximum (writing to BD-R/RE DL media)
    * 24x maximum (reading CD-ROM, CD-R media)
    * 24x maximum (reading CD-RW media)
    * 8x maximum (reading DVD-ROM/-R/+R SL media)
    * 6x maximum (reading DVD-ROM/-R/+R DL media)
    * 6x maximum (reading DVD-RW/+RW media)
    * 5x maximum (reading DVD-RAM media)
    * 2x maximum (reading BD-ROM media)
    * 2x maximum (reading BD-R/RE SL/DL media)
    It appears that DL (dual layer) writing in DVD-R and DVD+R formats is not supported.

  • Blu ray drive no longer recognizing dvds or blu ray discs

    Until about a week ago I was able to read cds, dvds, and blu ray discs with my dv6 product number lm720av.  Windows 7 64 bit.  I put in a disc recently and it tries to read the disc for a couple of minutes before it stops trying and shows no disc in the drive.  I looked online and it looked like there were other instances of this happening but no one had a solution.  It can read cds but not dvd or blu ray at this point.  I tried uninstalling the optical drive via device manager and it uninstalled no problem then windows automatically found the drive and reinstalled the drivers which did not change the results.  I saw online people were suggesting running sfc under administrator mode in the command prompt.  No change.  Does this mean my blu ray diode failed?  I see two lenses in the drive, is one cd and the other a combo dvd/blu ray?  Any other suggestions?
    I am about 3 weeks out of warranty on this laptop.

    Hi,
    The following procedure will test if your notebook can start from a bootable disc in the CD/DVD drive - the advantage of trying this is that it will rule out any possible Windows driver error as the CD/DVD drive is under the control of the Bios when starting the notebook.  So if you find that the notebook will not boot from the DVD, then it's almost certainly a Hardware fault in the optical drive itself and it will need to be replaced.
    Using another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD and DVD.  Download the ISO from the link below.
    Windows 7 64bit
    You need use an application such as ImgBurn to correctly burn the ISO to a DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, insert the DVD and then restart the notebook and see if it boots from this disc - if it does, let the first screen come up ( this will show repair options etc ) then just remove the DVD and restart.  If the notebook will not boot from the DVD, it will just load straight into Windows, in which case, just remove the DVD.
    Let me know.

  • DVD/CD/Blu-Ray Drive on HP Pavilion DV6 not working....

    HP Pavilion DV6 with Blu-Ray
    The DVD/CD/Blu-Ray drive suddenly stopped popping open or being recognized. I need to double check that there is nothing else I need to try to fix before having to buy a replacement part.
    I've already tried....
    1. reseting my computer back to factory settings (I know I had a virus or malware and then when it died I just decided to set the whole thing, but it didn't fix the dvd drive)
    2. Removed cd. (I had to remove the drive to get the cd out. It was a library cd so I thought that the security strip on it might have caused a problem.)
    After these two things it still isn't working. Everything else is fine. I just want to make sure there is nothing else I need to try or check before buying a replacement part.

    Hi RavenMidnight,
    For the DVD/CD/Blu-Ray drive no longer ejecting, there is not much troubleshooting that you can do to resolve the issue. I have included the document 'Opening a Stuck CD or DVD Drive Tray (Windows 7, Vista, XP)'. This document will show you two ways as a work around for opening the drive. When you do have the drive open, double check to make sure that there are no obstructions in the path of the tray.
    If there are not obstructions, and the tray is still not functioning properly. I have included the document for 'Steps for Removing and Replacing the CD or DVD Drive'.
    Please let me know if any of these steps have resolved the issue, thank you.

I have also tried the FIX It for Windows 7 but there is a message that the problem is not fixed. Can anyone please help? You can email me [Personal Information Removed]Thanks

    Hello bily:
             Can you tell me if a software disc works? If so there isn't any thing wrong with your cd/dvd drive. Movie disc have codes ok. HP has made the computer not to open these kinds of disc because they want you to buy cyberlink update. If you open up cyberlink DVD player click on settings then click on update this will open your browser and take you to the Cyberlink update page. Even when you download other media players like VLC, Realplayer and now there is new version VLC but I forgot name of it, These software do have the codes how and are free how ever HP's cyberlink software blocks them. You are not the only one with this issue if type in DVD not working on touchsmart this forum you will see the long lists.  This trend has been aswered buy another brand computer or pay for the update and hope for the best. HP has lost many of its long time costomers because of this one issue. I use a Sony VGC-LT20E to watch movies on. As others have said their good buys to HP and switched to Apple computers. Please click on Kudos if this resolves your issue. Thank you frrw.

  • Can I put Blu-ray drive on Qosmio G30?

    Hi all,
    I have a Qosmio G30-163 with an HD DVD Drive (MATSU****A G8CC00031720) and I am currently in the process of upgrading it.
    I recently bought a 4GB RAM upgrade kit from Crucial (CT2KIT25664AC667) and am looking into further upgrades.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to replace the HD DVD Drive with a Blu-ray drive?
    My research has led me to the Sony Optiarc BC-5500A which I have found has the same height dimension (12.7mm) and also the same interface connector at the rear (E-IDE).
    I have read in the forums that someone has managed to use a similar drive on a Qosmio and that the drive may need to be configured to slave mode as opposed to master.
    If anyone knows if this would work or has any further information I would greatly appreciate it!
    Regards,
    Luke{color}

    Well, I sent the same question to Toshiba Support, and they got back to me the next day - How's that for support!
    What they said was:
    "we think it is likely that the Blu-ray drive would work so long as it physically fits and it has the same adapter. Older systems will require enough graphics processing power to cope with Blu-ray. This system has the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 which should cope with it.
    We cant guarantee that this drive would work but we think it likely that it will but you install it at your own risk.
    Prior to installing more modern hardware it might be wise to check that you have the latest BIOS version."
    This sounds very promising to me, so I am seriosusly considering buying the Blu-ray drive!
    Does anyone have any experience of using Sony Optiarc products?

  • Can i upgrade to a blu ray drive

    I have a late 07 macbook 13" (white) and have been looking into upgrading the optic drive, since the one in it cant even write dvds. So i pondered why not go all the way and instead of getting an external drive get an internal drive. and on top of that make it blu ray r + rw ive found a couple af resonably priced drives, but now ive come to the Question ,  is it possible to do to my macbook being that it is so old. I am runing lion so im assuming it can read a blu ray disk and burn them but is my computer able to. I don't know if it will work with a 2007 but I do know that the optical drive in it has an IDE interface not a SATA. So any Blu-Ray drive would have to be IDE.
