I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home. In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.

Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached. Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

I keep getting this message every time I log in. Why? I have an iMac with sharing on for my networked printer and to share file between the iMac and my MacBook. Can anyone help?

This is an annoying but not disastrous thing. Your computer sends messages on your home network and each message includes its name. If your computer is restarted or if it goes to sleep and wakes up all those messages should now gone but sometimes when the computer reconnects to the network it picks up a message with its name in it. Your computer doesn't realize its an old message from itself, it thinks the message is from a computer with the same name and that's not permitted so your computer's name is automatically changed.
Temporary solution (or not): turn everything off - your computers, printers, internet modem and router; any and all devices that are connected to your network. Then restart them. I hear about this issue all the time and this solution has been temporary for some people (days, weeks, or months) and for others it has seemingly solved it totally.

Connecting to the update has been connecting for more than 6 hourand is still trying to connect when will it finish downloading the suggested update?s, why? This update has slowed me down way too much.

My huge annoyance is how Preview converts ai, .eps and .ps files to .pdf files.
It has progressively deteriorated from Tiger to Leopard to Snow Leopard.
In Leopard it defaulted to saving the .pdfs to the Documents folder not the place of origin and would regularly crash if more than a few (sometimes just 2) files were opened simultaneously.
In Snow Leopard nothing was fixed and now the names are stripped off the converted files so that they are all called Untitled.
Apple must have received hundreds of bug reports (I diligently sent one every time Preview crashed) and several feedbacks detailing the problem, to the point I believe persecuting Designers and ruining their work has become a NEXT programmers secret objective.
Except for a couple of minor bug fixes to do with drag & drop in Preview, I am puzzled where the so-called improvements in Snow Leopard really benefit user.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

There are several ways to get iOS on your phone.
In iOS 5.0+, go to Settings<General<Software Update
Connect your phone to iTunes and select "Check for Update". It should prompt you for 5.1
Google for a direct copy of iOS 5.1 for your phone and download it to your computer (it is downloaded from Apple servers, so don't worry about voiding warranty). Restore your phone as normal and hold down Shift (Windows) or Alt (Mac) when clicking restore to specifiy which iOS build you're putting on your phone. You would want to use the 5.1 file you downloaded)

Really I can't believe how pathetic Apple products are at allowing people under the hood of certain settings or giving you some clue to what error messages mean. My password is entered properly on all devices I'm trying to use Home Sharing on, all check boxes are checked yet the iPad still cannot discover what is on the PC's iTunes list. I've tried everything in all of the forums on this site and nothing works, there is no Music>More>Sharing box that pops up. Also there is no Airplay button in my iTunes on my PC. I banged my head on the wall with the same problem for two days. Tried everything mentioned, and this worked, finally. The problem is that the backup files are not where you think they are.
You need to delete the MobilSync backup folder. I have a Mac. Went to /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup and deleted the Backup folder.
Fixed the problem. Give it a try and good luck!
