Can you print from the iPad?

I ordered my iPad on 6/7 but won't get it till 6/24, its on back-order, DARN!! Anyway I have what may be a silly question: Can you print from the iPad using a USB cord from the printer? I pay bills online and like to have a hard copy of the receipt. Really looking forward to getting it.

To gloworm: regarding working with only one app open at a time, that should be taken care of when OS4 is available for the iPad - supposedly in the fall. As for using Air Sharing to print, you have to 1st get your files into the app via wifi from your computer. I have Air Sharing for both my phone and iPad and really like it. Once your files are in the app you just bring them up and touch the bottom left corner of iPad to bring up print. You can then print to any shared printer. I also use PrintCentral and like it for printing as well.

Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home.  Please shed some light on this for us PLEASE. Thanks

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached.  Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

  • Can you print from an iPad through the airport express

can you print from an iPad 2 through the airport express

You can, if your printer is AirPrint compatible.
Check this Apple support document to see if your printer appears:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If your printer is not compatible, you might still be able to print by adding an App like Print Central to the iPad.

  • Can you print from a iPad to an AirPrint printer without an Internet connection?

Can you print from a iPad to an AirPrint printer without an Internet connection?

    General Jer-
    Maybe.
If you can set up your AirPrint printer's WiFi to create an Ad Hoc Network, then your iPad can connect its WiFi directly to it and be able to print.
I have the HP D110 AirPrint printer.  As I recall, it was set up in Ad Hoc Network mode out of the box.  I had to change the setting in order to update its firmware over the internet.  You probably should do that as well, to be sure it has the latest firmware.
If you happen to have an old Apple AirPort WiFi base station, you can use its WiFi network for printing.  It does not require an internet connection to print.  Other brands may work as well, but some do not correctly handle the Bonjour data required by AirPrint.

  • Can you print from the ADF with Officejet Pro 8600 (not plus) & how to print checks in correct order

Client has Officejet Pro 8600 I(not plus) They want to print payroll checks out of QuickBooks but when they put the checks in tray 1, it pulls the check that is on the top, which happens to be the last check # in the stack.  Is there a way to print where the printer pulls from the bottom of the check stack as opposed to the top. I've looked and can't seem to find the answer. QuickBooks says we should check with HP and change something in the print drivers?
So I thought it would fix it if they printed the checks from the ADF where I thought I could control if it pulls from the front or back of the stack. When we tried to print from the ADF, it pulled from Tray 1 and we weren't given the option to print from the ADF.   (only Tray 1 & 2...which they don't have the 2nd tray anyway) So does this model, not being the PLUS model, not allow you to print from the ADF. (only scan, copy and fax from the adf?)
If we can't use the ADF for check printing, then how can we get the checks to print in the correct order.  Meaning, the 1st check # to print should be on the check that is on the bottom of that check stack in Tray 1.  Otherwise they have to count out the exact number of checks & place them in the tray.  Or reverse all of them which is not an efficient either! I hope this makes sense.

    Hi @kceacct ,
I see that you would like to know how to print out the checks in order. I will do my best to help you.
The ADF can be used for copying, scanning and faxing.
From the print driver you can only select the tray that you want to print from.
Changing Print Settings in Windows 8.
You would have to load the checks in order from top to bottom in the paper tray, since the printer just pulls the paper in from the top of the stack of paper.
    Have a nice day!

  • Can you print from an ipad to a wireless printer if the printer is not connected to the internet?

I am purchasing an iPad for my mother; she lives in a farm with no possibility of high speed internet, however, Verizon does have good cell phone coverage there.
So here is my question: she will have an iPad with 3g internet access. I want her to be able to print to a wireless printer; however, the printer that I buy will not be hooked up to any computer or internet...
    1) can a wireless printer be discovered on the ipad without any additional hardware?
    2) will i need to purchase a router and hook this router up to the printer to send out the wireless printer's signal?
someone please help. her ipad won't be much good if she can't print docs and photos.
    thanks in advance...

It sounds like her situation is like mine at school--I find what I want with my Internet capable network, then switch to my ad hoc network for printing, so make sure she's comfortable going into settings and turning WiFi on and selecting a network.
And make sure you allow yourself time for the initial printer setup--and do that somewhere where you have Internet access for the firmware updates and test the printer and then do the ad hoc setup at her home.
(You can also use an Airport Express to set up local network and just connect to the Internet (and ignore the warning light). I played around with this and it's a much more powerful network but overkill for what most people need.)
The ad hoc network just requires a name and a WEP password. Make sure you write down the password and the network name in case she has to join the network again.
I actually found the Amazon reviews for my printer very helpful in terms of explaining the set-up process.

  • Can you print from an iPad to non wireless printer connected to timecapsule

I just purchase an iPad. Can I print to non wireless printer connected to timecapsule? If yes, what app do I need for the iPad?

You might want to take a look at Print Central or Printopia.

Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
I can verify that Printopia works just fine for me on my iPad, but haven't tried Print Central.

  • How can I print from the ipad

I need to be able to print boarding passes the night before a flight and an occasional form sent through email. Trying to see if I can stop carrying my laptop.  I can usually find a printer with USB connection so I am guessing I just buy the camera connection kit? I only see references to airprint printers (which don't appear to include many printers I have encountered).
    Thanks

...  I can usually find a printer with USB connection so I am guessing I just buy the camera connection kit?
Sounds like a reasonable thing to expect, but no, that won't work. The iPad is forcing the long-promised paperless office upon us.
A lot of airport kiosks can read the checkin barcode right off the iPad and print a boarding pass for the TSA goons to scrutinize. Don't expect the government to go paperless any time soon.
AirPrint printers have been slow to appear, but at least the selection is growing. In the meantime there are other alternatives, but you would need to install Printopia on a Mac with a shared printer, or the equivalent on a PC if there is one (I don't know of any).

  • Can you print from an iPad using airport Extreme?

Do you still need to use a third party software (I.e. Printopia) to send a print file to my Samsung printer via Airport extreme router?

You might note the * (asterisk) here and be aware of the fine print at the bottom of the Apple advertising page.
Just a small detail like the printer must be AirPrint compatible.

If the printer is not AirPrint compatible, then Printopia might work

  • Can you print from a printer by connecting your USB cable to the printer

Can you print from your iPad to a network printer using the USB cable?

    No.
The only way to print from an iOS device is to have an AirPrint-compatible printer on the same network that your iOS device connects to for WiFi.

How can I print from the iPad 2 using an Epson Artisan 810 printer.

You said HP in your post title and Epson in your body text, but I think it is actually an Epson Artisan 810.
If that's right, then the free Epson iPrint app should work for you - it lists your printer as one that it supports: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/epson-iprint/id326876192?mt=8

  • Can you print from this?

Can you print off the ipad 2? If so is it universal with other printers or is there a specific type of printer?

If you have a wireless router in your home and you own a HP Printer that is Airprint enabled, you can print from your iPad.  If you do not have an Airprint enabled printer, but you do have a wireless printer, you can still print, but you'll need a 3rd party app.  Most printer manufacturers offer an app in the app store that offers limited printing abilities.  For a more robust option, I chose Print Central ($8.99 in the App Store), which I have been very please with.  So, the first question is do you have an HP e-Print printer?  If you do, tell us the printer model and we can check it against the Airprint list (or you can use the search bar and find the Airprint list).

  • When you print from an ipad, can you print to the 8x11 tray?

My grandfather has an ipad and an hp photosmart printer. When we print from a computer, it goes straight to the 8x11 tray and prints on normal sized paper. When we print from the ipad it goes straight to the photo tray and prints on photo paper. I know that for iOS, airprint doesn't support tray selection and just prints to whatever tray 1 is. Is there a way to change it on the printer so that the 8x11 tray reads as tray 1 and we can print from the ipad to the regular printer paper? We've tried just removing the photo tray, and that doesn't work.

    Hi there,
Well luckily you dont have to go changing any settings to default specific trays to different settings. Just download the HP Home and Biz app from the app store for free. It has the ability to set the paper size used

Not with the built-in AirPrint print function.  However, you can download free and cheap print apps that can provide some (limited) printing abilities.  HP's iPrint is one of those.
