Can you repair iM projects in anyway?

I copied clips from one project into another.
Now both projects run very poorly.
When the project is finaly loaded,I get ,with everything I do, the spinning beachball, sometimes for minutes.
Making a small change in a project takes a lot of patience.
When starting playback first comes the spinning beachball, then it starts for maybe two seconds then stops ;beachball etc.etc.
For my iMovie projects I use a LaCie BigDisk 400gb tripple interface.
Please help
Jacqo

Hi,sorry for my late response.
The external hd is formatted for Mac.
Is there a way to move the project to another external hd instead of copying,or can you only copy files and not move them?
There is also another problem with the hd.When it is connected with firewire iMovie says that there's no camera connected.
When the hd is connected with usb2 iM does see the camera, but only imports a second or two and than quits.
As soon as I disconnect the hd there's no problem.
Because of all that I'm going to look for another hd,but I don't know wich is best .Certainly not LaCie for me.

  • How can you open a project file backup if the main project won't load?

This has only started happening in the last couple of weeks. I'm on Logic 10.0.7, OSX 10.8.5. On one particular project, it will be loading seemingly normally, then it just disappears with no crash log, nothing.
Presumably there is some sort of corruption in the project file.
In the old pre package days, you would just go to the project file backups folder and pick a previous one. Bingo, you have only lost a little bit of work.
Now when I show package contents, the project file backups folder has project data files that won't open logic, and are invisible until you have logic open. Which I can't do.
Rue the day I selected the package option rather than folder.
    Any suggestions?
Or to put the question another way, how can I convert the project data in the project file backups folder to a file that Logic can recognise and open?

Having his install the trial is the way to go. Working between AI versions is a pain and as you are finding out almost impossible with 5 versions between the collaborators.

  • Can you set a project wide time limit?

I know that you can set a time limit for each question, can you set a time limit for the entire project?

That variable has really no sense. First of all, you have to create it and it will just be toggled when time is over. I think it is just taken over from the former Timer widget (Timer widget... to stress your learners - Captivate blog) where it had sense, because it didn't have the same functionality of jumping to a slide when time was over. Beware: the timing is not very accurate, it will start with a delay of about 1 second if you put it on the first slide (display for rest of project), and when time is over the message (you cannot escape from it) will display for 2 seconds. Had planned to blog about Timing/Hourglass interactions, but have too many plans that I didn't realize.

  • Can you put multiple projects together in iMovie?

I want to make a dvd that has several different iMovie projects on the dvd separated with Chapter markers. Can you put an existing project into another existing project in iMove and then mark the separation with Chapter markers? Then you can save it as one project and export it to iDVD.

A better way is to create different iMovie projects, then export them as Quicktime files (best quality), import those files into a new iMovie project, make them different chapters, then to iDVD.

  • Can you send FCP project files through email?

If all of a projects original capture footage is copied to another hard drive and then opened with the copied saved project file on another computer, will the "new" copied project work correctly?
Can you send project files back and forth through email if your both working with the same exact copied footage?
    powermac g5 2.0 DC; powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I use iChat to send project files. I've even used it to send a missing media file here and there (overnight, of course). < </div>
iChat is tremendously under-used and misunderstood application. Being able to transfer h-u-g-e files without FTP, connecting to a server, connecting to the target Shared folder or drop box or stooping to the hassles of email is only one fascinating aspect of this cool little tool.
The Macintosh OS is full of such things.

  • Can you restore a project from a single file

    Using Windows XP / RH8 & RH7 / RSC 3.1
Is there a single file that lets you restore a project?   My co-worker believes this is the case, but I can find nothing in the RH Help, or on this forum using a search term of "restore project", "restore from file", "file types" etc.
I can't find the Help page that has the explanation of each file type, which used to be easy to find.
What we are looking for is an equivalent to the FHB file in ForeHelp.  You can restore the complete project from that one file.
I have tried a dozen searches on the forum and get no reponses for anything.  Is search even working?
Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Joe

There is no single file that restores the source project. You can reverse engineer a CHM and get close but I don't think that is what you are looking for.
The only single file method is a zip of your project!

  • How can you tell FCPX project files in a deleted trash recovery program

    Hello All
Did the unthinkable and trashed a FCPX project folder I need.....and emptied the trash.
I immediatly went into recovery with program ''Stellar Phoenix...'' and was able to recover loads of files.
Since they are now ''generic'' labeled, I can't decifer which one is the FCPX project file.
Does anyone have a method to determine which is which in a recovery situation.
    Some further info....
recovered files are organized in folders by types:
                   OSX 10.6
                   graphics
                   documents
                   apps......sub folders to include: ''c source...plist....apple scripts....etc
                   video
                   audio
                   archive
                   and a few more..
It seems apparent that it's not going to be video, audio. graphics...etc
but I was thinking ''apple scripts'' as a project is just instructions for the timeline movie, right?
anyway, have a lot of searching to do and no real map on what I'm looking at here.
Anyone had an experience like this and can shed some light?
    ...greatly appreciate it
    Thanks!

    Monty,
Within FCP, there is a menu item called "Media Manager" (depending on what version you are in). This would be worth your while to look into. It basically organizes your project by moving/archiving any used assets of a project and leaving out un-used assets. It saves a ton of disk space.
For example, say you have a 5 minute clip with an in/out point that is just 30 seconds. Media Manager will "archive" just that 30 seconds, not the entire clip. There is even a setting that you can add additional "handles" time to the front andd back of the clip if you think you may need to add or change transition.
Do a google search. I was just watching a few Youtube videos on this myself.

  • Can you repair your fonts?...

I know this is my fault, but I'm wondering if I can fix it. I'm a graphic designer, and I've always had problems with Helvetica and now Helvetica Nueue because I use them for designing and the OS uses a different version, so I had followed the instructions I found elsewhere to "fix" them, but now I know that I've borked my fonts because I can't read the headers of e-mails, and other things because the system font isn't working.
So, long story short, isn't there a way to re-install the system fonts or something of the kind so that I can go back to how it was. I should also say that I use Font Explorer Pro to manage my fonts.
I'm also inserting a screen capture of what some web sites look like in Safari now because I'm getting a Capital "A" in a box instead of the proper words.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Kurt Lang wrote:
In order to use the Helvetica fonts you need for your projects (assuming they are not Apple's versions), you simply can't allow Apple's Helvetica fonts to exist in their normal location since you then cannot turn them off.
What you need to do is have Apple's fonts set aside in their own folder, not in any of the Fonts folders, so you can control them.
Not sure what article you found, but the instructions for getting Apple's fonts out of the way are in my article, Font Management in OS X. Remove these fonts from both the /System/Library/Fonts/ folder, and the buried ProtectedFonts folder. Do the protected ones first so they don't automatically replace those in the System's Fonts folder.
Next, you need to get these fonts back onto the hard drive as I noted above. In a generic folder outside of any Fonts folder. For that, you can use Pacifist. Put your Snow Leopard installation DVD in the drive and use Pacifist to extract the various Helvetica fonts to your new folder.
You will need all of these to satisfy Snow Leopard's normal list of fonts:
    Helvetica.dfont
    HelveticaNeue.ttc
    HelveticaLight.ttf
    HelveticaLightItalic.ttf
Once you have your folder of Apple's Helvetica fonts set aside, you're ready to continue.
To remove Font Book from the hard drive, follow these steps:
    1) Open Font Book, and then its preferences. Uncheck the box for "Alert me if system fonts change". Close the preferences and shut down Font Book. Put the Font Book application in the trash and delete it.
    2) Restart your Mac and immediately hold down the Shift key when you hear the startup chime to boot into Safe Mode. Keep holding it until OS X asks you to log in (you will get this screen on a Safe Mode boot even if your Mac is set to automatically log in). Let the Mac finish booting to the desktop and then restart normally.
This will reset Font Book's database and clear the cache files in your user account. All fonts in the three main Fonts folders (System, Library, your user account) will now be active, regardless of their state beforehand.
    3) Close all running applications. From an administrator account, open the Terminal app and enter the following command. You can also copy/paste it from here into the Terminal window:
    sudo atsutil databases -remove
This removes all font cache files. Both for the system and all user font cache files. After running the command, close Terminal and immediately restart your Mac.
With Font Book completely gone, and all cache files cleared and rebuilt, things should now be displaying correctly.
    Hello Kurt!
I have read both your "Font Management in OS X" article and the referenced "Undoing Font Book" (unfortunately, this article only goes as far as Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and I'm not sure whether everything would be the sam in Mac OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.)
I've followed all the instructions in your article as soon as I've got my new iMac 2.5 GHz Intel a couple of months ago, but some things are not working right with fonts: Working on a QuarkXPress Passport document previously saved, I was unable to use the HelveticaNeue.ttc font that I had used when originally working on the file as QuarkXPress told me the font was missing.
When in Font Book I tried to see what the problem with this font was, it showed conflicts with "multiple copies of this (as well with other) font" which I cannot resolve by clicking on "resolve duplicate font conflicts": it asks whether I "want to disable the selected fonts", which is not what I want. Actually, Font Book tells you that "you can use the Resolve Duplicates command to automatically deactivate the copies not in use."
If I do this, I believe I won't be able to use whichever font so deactivated, or would I?
I launched Font Book, opened its preferences and unchecked both "Alert me if system fonts change" and "Automatic font activation".
I still get alerts such as "Finder requires AppleSymbols font", "Finder requires Aquakana-Bold font", "System font HelveticaLightItalic.ttff has been restored MacOSX needs it to display text onscreen" after either moving to another location or deleting them in preparation for a complete new Font Book reset as explained on your post.
My question is, should I try removing Font Book from the hard drive and replacing it with a fresh copy and, if so should I do it the way you explain on your reply to stephmoreland?
Even though Font Book is a "weak" font manager, I would rather stick with it as I believe it performs for the kind of work I do on my computer.
Thank you so much for your help,

  • How can you repair "invalid node structure and invalid b-tree node size"

I have a MacBook Pro 17"  and the original install disk is Mac OS 10.4.  I have an update 10.6 install CD, but I cannot use it to boot up my computer.  My computer had been running on 10.6 when the problem occurred.
It seems my harddrive has crashed. It only boots to apple logo and spins.  I have reset the pram. Started up in safe mode with shift pressed down and started up on the start up disk,  where I did repair disk and got this "invalid node structure invalid b-tree node size".  Then it said repair failed to complete.  I tried booting again but it still failed. I thought doing a restore might solve the problem.  I have a month old backup with time machine which is on a lacie external drive, but when I try to restore using my original 10.4 install disk, I can only choose the lacie hardrive icon (by dragging) and cannot choose the folder in the backups with the latest backup.  When I tried to restore, it says my source is not a valid option.  Is this because it is a 10.4 startup disk.
Basically I have two questions:  Is there a way to fix my problem without doing a restore and if I have to restore, how do I restore my time machine backup?  Will I need to do a reinstall with 10.4 and then update to 10.6?
I really hope to find a way to have my computer back to how it was when it started spinning and if not, at least as it was when I did the latest backup 3 weeks ago.
    Please help me!!!
    Rebecca

You should be able to boot to the Snow Leopard upgrade disc — you had to do so to install the upgrade in the first place. If you can't boot to it now, either the disc is scratched or dirty or your drive's lens is dirty; for the latter problem, a drive cleaning disc is an inexpensive, frequently-used and often successful remedy, available at any store that sells DVDs.
Because you're running Snow Leopard now, you should repair your hard drive directory using the Snow Leopard version of Disk Utility, not the one on your Tiger installer disc. If you aren't able to do so even after trying to clean your drive, you could buy and use DiskWarrior to rebuiild the damaged HD directory. But DW costs nearly $100, and though it would probably do the trick, that's a bunch of money. You'll have to weigh its cost against the value of the new or changed data on your drive that hasn't been backed up in the last three weeks. If you can get along without that data, then erasing your hard drive and restoring from your last backup is the no-cost, immediate (as opposed to waiting for a DW startup disk to arrive in the mail) solution.

  • How can you repair a pages document that crashes the program so it won't crash anymore

I have a Pages file 09' that crashes the program. I want to keep the file because of the time spent on it and formatting it. I am using a iMac with OS 10.8. I called support and they told me there was a Pages 11 out. I could not find it in the app store. I am using Pages version 4.3. This is the latest version I can find. You know the one, the one with the broken spellcheck program. I need to find a file repair utility. I do not want to just save the text. I want to save the file. Thanks.

I said you were using Snow Leopard because that is what is listed at the bottom of your first post. I don't know if it's just me, but I do find it difficult to edit that information since these forums moved to the current format.
I don't rely on the spell checker, mostly because spelling has always been a forté. Pages uses the system spell checker & does pick up the typos I make, so I don't know what to say about that.
Since the file can be opened biut crashes when editing it, you might try an old trick that often worked with AppleWorks & I've known of it working with Pages, too. Save the file with a slightly different name as an iWork '08 file format & then open that copy in your current Pages. You do not need to have Pages '08 to do this. In Mountain Lion, hold down the Option/alt key while clicking on the File menu & choose Save As…, check the box next to Save a copy as: & select iWork '08 from the drop-down menu like in this screenshot. This can often correct minor corruption.

I am creating a slide show for my wedding and have three projects. can i merge all three into one?

    What's a Project?
Do you mean a book? They're based on Photos in your Library already, so, just make an album from those photos?
Do you mean Events? To merge them just drag one to the other.
Do you mean Library? If so, you'll need the pid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager

  • How can you repair a MacBook air when it won't start properly?

My MacBook Air is just over 3 years old and thus out of warranty.
It gives a message that says the Preference Pane cannot be opened. Mostly the screen is black but sometimes (oddly) Adobe Bridge has a window ... but I cannot move to any other application.
    1) is Genius Bar only available if your product is under warranty?
    2) is there no way to check it? No recovery shows up when I option-restart.
Advice would be appreciated. the closest Apple store is an hour away.

Backup your files. If you have a 2010 model that came with a set of two software discs then do the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1. If you wish to upgrade to a later version of OS X, then do so on the App Store.
If you have the 2011 model then do this:
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
How to Clean Install OS X Yosemite
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Can you preview your project in iMovie in full screen?

How do you preview your iMovie project in full screen in the new iMovie app for Mac?
In the old version you could just click the "play" button to watch the project in full screen, but I don't see that option anymore.

Just to the right of the playback controls that appear in the bottom of the viewer window when you mouse over them is the full screen button. Kind of a double arrow thing.
Shift-command F will do the same thing.
