Can you replace a retina screen without replacing the entire computer?

Hello,
I have the standard issue with a horrible LG screen causing image retention. I've had it for almost a year now and it hasn't bothered me too much but I have Apple Care and am within my rights to return it for a Samsung one.
I have a lot of things setup on my computer (it is for work) so it would be a big problem to have to replace the entire thing. Can you just replace the monitor whilst leaving the hard drive and everything else in tact?
Thank you kindly in advance for your responses
David

Judging from other responses, it appears Apple would be willing to just replace the screen. But except for your original choice of drive size, CPU speed and RAM, everything set up on your computer is what's on your HD (actually SSD). You've already been advised to make a backup, but if the backup you make is a clone and bootable, it can be written back to the internal drive and you'd be back in operation in a short time.
That would be just as true if you swapped if tor the 2013 rMBP, assuming that was offered with the screen you want instead.

  • Can you have two different itunes account on the same computer

how can you have 2 different itunes accounts on the same computer?

You would need two seperate users on the computer. Then each library would be independent of each other. Or do you mean two seperate iTunes store accounts?

  • Can you share music between iTunes accounts on the same computer

Can you share music between iTunes accounts on the same computer? My kids iPods are under my account now with all of our shared music but they want their own iTunes accounts. I would like to transfer the music and apps that they purchased under my account to their new accounts... Is this posible?

Did you enable the display of system files and hidden files and folders?
by the way, how can i stop this from happening another time.
    Make a backup!
i had music there for over 6 years.
Well you must have updated iTunes once or twice in that time. Do you have some sort of "tidying" app that is supposed to clean "unnecessary" files. If so perhaps it is too aggressive.

  • Can you have 2 seperate iphone accounts on the same computer?

Can you have two seperate iphone accounts on the same computer??? please help?

Yes. If you want separate iTunes accounts, the easiest way is to set up 2 users on the computer, each with their own iTunes library.
If the two phones share the same iTunes account this is not necessary.

  • Can you have more than one ipod on the same computer?

me and my sister live together and we would like to be able to have two seperate libraries on the same computer. one library is already there and when the second ipod is plugged in, it comes up as a sub-library that is unacessable.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

Can home share be used with two libraries on the same computer?

iTunes must be running for home sharing to work.  There is no way to have home sharing running simultaniously for two users on the same computer.
Simply add the media files using File > Add File/Folder option in iTunes.

  • How do you view a Windows Powerpoint without buying the entire Mac Office software?

I have Pages and OS Lion. I don't want to buy more software to view powerpoints my teachers post online. When I open them up normally, it opens in Preview, which is fine cause I just want to read them, not edit them. But in Preview it distorts (enlarging the text) on only a few slides but I can't reformat them so I have all the words in view. What should I do.

There are several free work-alike packages to Microsoft office for the Mac:
    Open Office
    Neo Office
these are equivalent to Mac Office, and should open PC versions of files as well.

  • Can you insert into a table without having the table structure in place

    I have tried to use the import wizard insert data in a CSV file into a table;
I have 7 column headers, however, where there are extra commas in a field the wizard just combines the 2 fields so that i get a total of 7 columns even though there should be more.
any ideas how i can round this problem?
    should i use bulk copy?

  • Can you execute a class file without invoking the command line java command

I am running java on a Windows XP equipped machine, and I am wondering if it is possible to execute a class file by double clicking the file icon, or can it only be done via command line. So far I have been unsuccessful in my attempts - I tried associating the class file with the java executable in my JRE directory, but that didn't work.
    Many thanks,
    -Stile

nope, can't be done, by design... microsoft recognised java as threat to the empire very early on in the peace.... but you can write a batch file to execute myprogram.class called myprogram.bat and stick it in your PATH.

  • HT1296 Can you sync more than one iphone to the same computer without having the two combine all information?

Am I able to sync to iphones to the same computer, but have both phones and information on both stay separate? I do not have a computer at this time and want to sync my phone on my brother's computer for backup purposes. Is this possible?

Create a new user login (with a password) for your stuff.
This way, your data won't get mixed up.

  • Ok... So can you have two seperate itunes accounts on the same computer?

Yes. If you want separate iTunes accounts, the easiest way is to set up 2 users on the computer, each with their own iTunes library.
If the two phones share the same iTunes account this is not necessary.

  • Can you sync and iPhone and iPad to the same computer with different Apple IDs?

I synced my ipad2 to a computer my husband synced his iPhone to.  It now has his info. Is there a way to sync both devices with different IDs?

You can if you use different user accounts on the computer so you have your own iTunes libraries. It will take some work. Read this.

Can you buy a 3G service without having the 3G ipad2

Most carriers have plans in which you purchase a 3G or 4G modem that lets any WiFi device connect, much like a wirless router at home. The data plans are more expensive but you can connect any Wifi enabled device to the 3G or 4G network through the portable modem.
