Can you replicate the video DVD autolaunch and playback on a Flash drive?

I'm creating a motion graphics presentation in Motion and I normally burn these to DVD with DVDSP where it automatically plays when you insert it into a DVD player or computer.
My client wants to distribute the presentation on Flash drives, though, and give those out. My thinking is that a Flash drive is only data and so we would need to distribute the presentation as a QT movie file, which would require the end user run the file.
There's no way to make a computer think a Flash drive is a video DVD, is there?

Yeah, the companies you buy those custom USB Flash drives from will put any file you want on them and I'm familiar with the auto run .ini option in Windows. The problem with that is playing a QuickTime movie file on a PC or Mac doesn't look as good at full screen as a video DVD, in my opinion, and the end user would have to manually tell it to go full screen. Finally, not all computers have the auto run feature enabled because of the virus issue you cited, and the end user would have to right-click on the drive and select "Explore" in Windows, or find the file in the Finder, and then manually run it.
Video DVD is great because it looks great at full screen and it's platform agnostic. If you insert one into any computer with a DVD drive, it will either auto play or it will give the user a dialog asking them if they want to play it.
But from a marketing perspective, the USB Flash drive is better because when you give them out to people (with your company's logo on it), people are more likely going to use it and see your presentation versus a DVD disc.

That could be a challenge. If I am not mistaken that camera strictly records to DVD - RW and has no digital output connectors, is that right?
My only experience with a camera like that was a bad one. I was able to get the video off the disc using a tray-loading iMac but it was painfully slow.

You might consider finding an external USB slot-loading DVD drive, but as I say my experience was painfully slow, and you might run into file format compatibility challenges.
I am sure it's possible but it won't be as easy as importing video from something like an iPad or iPhone. I still use a camcorder on occasion but it has a FireWire port. That's easy.

I'm not aware of an online keyboard that is available and can do this. Most likely it would need to be a function of the app itself (which can and sometimes do add functionlaity to the keyboard).
Wireless keyboard might handle that, if that's an option for you.
I work in IT myself, and IMHO the iPad isn't the ideal device for coding or scripting work.

Does anyone know if you buy Leopard now or use the up-to-date form do you get the Install DVD with the most recent release (10.5.1) or do you still get 10.5 and have to update online? Does anyone know if Apple usually updates the Install DVDs only for major releases? I was told by Apple on the phone that they do not update the Install DVDs unless it's a "major" release. Does installing 10.5.1 from a DVD any better than installing 10.5 and updating online to 10.5.1?

There is absolutely no reason to wait for an updated DVD. There is no difference between an updated DVD installation and an installation that has been updated via Software Update. More valid reasons may exist to hold off but this ain't it.
I'm personally holding off while waiting for a couple of updates from developers whose software I use. AlchemyTV DVR is one for example. You should make a careful study of what applications you depend on that must work under Leopard. Various reliable Mac sites like MacFixit and MacInTouch have user lists of what works, what doesn't, what has been updated to work, when updates are expected, and so on. It is naive to think everything on one's system will work with Leopard when Leopard itself is a massive upgrade with many changes, additions, and subtractions.

You can, but this type of configuration is not recommended or supported by Apple.
Two cautions if you want to try this:
1) The Time Capsule has to be configured to "Join" your existing wireless network in this type of setup...and to do that, you must know the exact type of wireless security that your network is using.
2) Backups are going to take twice as long. The wireless signal must travel from your computer to the wireless router and then from the wireless router back to the Time Capsule. Two "hops"......even if the computer is located close to the Time Capsule.
If you want to try this, we can tell you how....but with no guarantees on your results....since this is not officially supported.

The reason I ask is because last night our film-making club gave a show of short videos to some guests.
At the end it was decided to put them all on one DVD to send to the visitors as a memento.
However, some of the films were on AVCHD discs and I queried whether they could be copied, even in standard definition.
The "copier" said it was no problem as he had a PC and had done it before . . . . . cheeky devil!
So can it be done . . . . . on a PC or a Mac . . . . with a standard burner?
I have just tried but nothing in the BDMV folder can be imported.

GOT IT!
Copy the BDMV folder from the AVCHD disc to the desktop.
Use HandBrake to convert the .m2ts files to H.264
Then convert the H.264 files to an editable format.
Rather convoluted process but it works.
Anyone know a better method?

How can you reset the video adapter on a MacBook?

My MacBook will only display in monochrome. Went into Preferences and reset resolution and color profile. And no change. Reset PRAM and still no change. Can anyone recommend a solution for resetting the video? This occurred after hooking up an external HD display and streaming video to an HDTV

How can you test the video card?

I just got a cinema display and I am having trouble calibrating it.
I just notice that when I open up bridge CS4 it takes awhile for it to refresh. When I go to film strip view and click on a picture it will not diplay it.
Then I change views and there is a line down the middle of the display where it gets update but the left side does not.
Any thoughts on what it could be?
Video card of is it the monitor?
How can I test it?

The only ways I can think of to test the card are XBench and the Apple Hardware Tests (insert Install DVD and restart while holding down 'd')

Can I toggle the video image on and off in iChat Theater with Keynote?

It seems to me that in the Leopard presentation in the Apple booth at MWSF when exhibiting iChat Theater with a Keynote presentation they were able to switch between two views. One was just a simple head-on view of the Keynote file. The other had the Keynote screen angled away slightly and there was a typical video chat display in the lower left of the screen. Now that I am trying to use iCT I only see the view with the angled screen with the video in lower left. I asked at the local Apple store but we were not able to find any information about this. Do I have faulty memory? Is this really a feature and if so how do I toggle the two views?

Depending on the Specs of your Mac is the key to how iChat displays iChat Theatre.
I can find no setting for it.
Strangely when I tested my G4 split the view as did my MacBook Pro on receiving but when I tried to go from MacBook Pro to G4 I did not get split view

Can You Change The Video Thumbnail In iTunes?

I have a few home made videos that are loaded on my itunes Movies.
I would like to change the thumbnail view that iTunes displays.
I know how to add thumbnail artwork by right clicking on the video file
and selecting get info, but that is not what I want to do. When there is
no image in the artwork section iTunes displays a frame from your video
clip as the artwork, this is what I would like to change.
Is it possible on iTunes to select a different frame?

Hello!
On old versions of Firefox, the default theme always used the native GTK forward and back buttons. Ever since I updated Firefox, it overwrites these with its own arrow. Does anyone happen to know off the top of their head if it's reversible?

It looks like the GTK theme was not updated to support versions of Firefox after version 29. Have you contacted the developer about this as well?

I suppose if you enabled disk use, stored it on in the iPod, then copied the file to the computer you're wanting to play it on. If you mean directly from the iPod to a TV... no.
