Was wondering if i could restore my iphone 4 (6.1.3) backup to a new iphone 5 (6.1.4)?  Wanted to see if i was able to do unless it would work becuase of different software.

Yes.  You can restore the backup as long as your phone is running the same or higher version of iOS.

No way to tell until you try. If the water damage was severe enough

Companies specializing in data recovery may - emphasis on may - be
able to recover some data. Attempts are very very expensive and there are
no guarantees. Google/Bing/Yahoo/etc should assist in locating such companies.

  • Can you download iOS updates without the iPhone connected to your computer?

I'm trying to do the iOS 8 update for my phone - "Download Only" - and the pop-up window says "32 hours remaining!" Is there a way for me to continue the download without having the iPhone itself connected to iTunes?

Probably. Didn't try that myself, but once the download is going your iPhone should not need to remain connected.

  • Can you restore from a backup that was made on a previous version of iOS?

    Hello.
I had an iPhone 3GS unning whatever the latest proper version of iOS currently is at the time of writing (4.3.5, is it?) but on Saturday I was on a rather drunken night out and I lost my phone.
    Silly me.
But I was out of contract and the new iPhone (4S or 5 or whatever) is going to be announced on Tuesday next week (just been confirmed by Apple today) so I'm just going to make do with an old, spare Nokia until the new iPhone is available in the UK.
Once the new iPhone launches I will buy it, plug it into iTunes and just restore from backup and I'm back in business.
Except for one thing... The new iPhone will have iOS 5 installed and my last backup before I lost my 3GS was done on iOS 4.3.5.
Is this going to be a problem or can you restore from a backup made with an older version of the OS?
I've never done it before so I don't know.
    J

You "should" have no problem doing that. I say should, because you can't restore a backup made with a higher iOS on a device running a lower iOS, I.E. - you can't restore a backup made from a device running, let's say iOS 4.3.5 on a device running iOS 4.2.10. However, iOS 5.0 will present many new features and since it has not been released, I have no way of stating with certainty that doing as you plan will not present any problems. Past history indicates it won't, but we'll have to wait & see.

  • Can you restore a 3G with a 3GS restore?

    Can you restore a 3G with a 3GS restore?
I have repeatedly setup the 3G as a new iPhone with the latest updates and when I attempt to restore from my 3GS backup, it keeps telling me that "The backup cannot be restored to this iPhone because the software on the iPhone is too old."
If you're wondering why I am restoring my 3Gs to a 3G, it's because my phone was stolen and since I have been waiting for the highly anticipated new iPhone to come ou, it was suggested by my carrier (AT&T) to see if I have any friends who have phones I could use to save on cost (since you can only return within 30 days an no one knows when the new phone is coming out."
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help with this restore!

Unfortunately, I don't believe this will be possible. iTunes won't allow you to Restore from a backup of a higher version of iOS software than the "target" device is capable of. Since the 3GS was probably up to 4.3.4, and the highest possible on the 3G is lower than that (4.2.1?) it's going to continue to give you this error.
Perhaps someone else can think of some kind of "unofficial" workaround, but I haven't heard of any. I have, however, seen iTunes throw errors after people have attempted to downgrade the iOS version and go backward... but in any case, even to try and downgrade, you would need to Restore legitimately to get the newer iOS backup operational and then try to downgrade it. Without a newer device, doesn't seem like that would work. =(

  • Can  you move your notes from one iphone to another and how?

Can you move your notes from one iphone to another and how?

You can do this a couple ways.  If you are using MobileMe, notes is one of the options for synchronization and that would be automatic.  Another way is to backup your iphone to iTunes, this backs up essentially all the information on your phone (except for music) and if you restore the other iphone to the image of the original your notes will be transfered.

  • HT3529 I have lost all data on my iphone and the back-up is too old. How can I restore iMessage chats on my iPhone 4? I have all the chats on my Mac, but there seems to be no sync function from Mac to iphone. Please advice.

    Hi,
I have lost all data on my iphone by mistake. I needed to restore the phone and I didnt realize my back-up was 1yr old, and now the phone is restored and I've got a year old contact list and iMessage chat history. Luckily my iMessage on the Mac is still valid and has all the chat history. My question is how can I restore iMessage chats on my iPhone 4 from my Mac? I have all the chat history on my Mac, but there seems to be no sync function from Mac to iphone. Please advice.

If things seem to be going haywire with your phone, it seems that it MAY be a software issue.
Now, that being said, that does not necessarily mean that it is a virus. Software issues do happen sometimes. It is probably just coincidence.
What you need to do is restore the device using iTunes. This will fix any software issues. After you have done this, you can restore from an iCloud backup.
iCloud does not back up the actual software, so no, the "virus" would not have gotten into the backups.
The link below provides steps on restoring your device using iTunes as well as how to restore from an iCloud backup.

Don't worry! Everything should be back to normal if you follow these steps.

  • How can I restore Camera Roll to my iphone 4s? I have Photo Stream and am backed up on iCloud

How can I restore Camera Roll to my iphone 4s? I have Photo Stream and am backed up on iCloud

Syncing notes with iCloud requires it have the correct email address linked, as notes get synced with an email address.
Now, assuming that you have successfully set that up, though most people don't first time around, then if you deleted the note from the phone, it will have deleted from iCloud as well.
Meaning, unless you have that note located in a backup in iTunes or iCloud you won't be able to get it back.
You can restore the iTunes backup simply by connecting to itunes and hitting restore backup. Only thing is, any info that changed since the backup was made will be lost. (i.e. if your backup is a month old, your phone will look like it did a month ago, and only have that info on it.)
Or, you can restore from iCloud, which requires erasing all content and settings, then selecting that backup. SO, you can see the predicament.

  • Can you make IOS 7 for the iPod 4th Generation please?

Can you make iOS 7 for the IPod 4th generation because to be honest it's not fair to us iPod 4th Generation users that the iPod 5 and the IPhone users get to have it but we don't

All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory. The 4G only has 256 MB

Can I download iOS 6 onto my iPhone 4? I'm trying but I keep getting an error msg.

OK, but if you do want to try iTunes, you just hook up your iPhone to your PC or Mac like you were going to sync it, and it will tell you that there is an update for your phone when you initiate the sync.
Otherwise, best of luck! Hope it all gets sorted out quickly!!!

  • Can you tell me how to recover iphone contacts

Recently in trouble, I lost contact because of my Prison break failed,Can you tell me how to recover iphone contacts?urgent!urgent!urgent!thanks!!!

"jimistyle", a little bit late reply but hope you can still hear. ^^
The fact is there might be another way to recover your lost iPhone files via iTunes on your Mac machine. This Mac utility is able to extract & restore iTunes backup files for your lost iPhone data. Not too many Mac users know that each time you sync data between your iDevice (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and iTunes, all previous records will be backed up by iTunes automatically and saved as (.sqlitedb) files. Hope this helps take your stress out. Best regards.
