Can you save a text log from iphone to your mac?

My boyfriend and I are really into language, and we have had some precious, clever, funny conversations over the past few months. I have one huge giant text message going between us that's about three months long, and I would love to download it to my computer to be able to read it. And then delete the original because it's getting huge and unwieldy and takes awhile to open. Plus, he's sent me addresses and such that take forever to go back and find.
Is there any way to sync text messaging to my mac for backup and access?

Hello, there's no way to do this from iTunes or the iPhone at the moment but it is possible to extract data from the iPhone backup.
I use the method covered here: http://www.tuaw.com/2007/07/10/scanning-your-iphone-backup-files/ to save SMS messages from my iPhone into a text file.
Without going into too much detail, you convert your iPhone backup into SQLite3 db format via a small Perl script and then open them with a (free) SQLite Database viewer.
Hope this helps.

  • Can you transfer a HDTV show from ATV to your Mac?

I'm sorry if this is really dumb - but I have read through several topics and I just don't understand. Sorry. I have a Directv HD recorder and I want to record a tv show like my Directv recorder does and then transfer it to my computer. Will an ATV allow me to do this? Thanks.

I actually meant a TV show - not a movie. But, that is probably the same thing, huh? If you can't do it with an ATV - is there anyway to hook my computer to my HDTV and download a tv show? I used to have a Sony HD converter box that allowed me to download analog content from my Tivo. But,like I said, now I have a Directv HD recorder and I want to download some content from there. Thanks, again.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPhone?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
Also consider deleting and reinstalling the Mail Account in question.

  • Is it possible to save a text thread from iPhone?

I realize that the thread will be saved on the phone itself until I delete it, but I want to save a text thread forever by copying and pasting it to an e-mail or document. Is this possible? I can't figure out how to do it….I have an iPhone 4s.

You can copy the messages by tapping and holding on a message, which will bring up a copy option. You can also select more which will allow you to select multiple messages, which you can then press the arrow in the bottom right to "forward" them. Instead of forwarding them you could then highlight the text in the box and copy and paste it into a note or email.
You could also "Screen capture" the messages by pressing the home and lock button at the same time to take a picture of the screen.

  • Can you tie/bind text box from excel file?

    Hello,
I have use Data Merge to enter data from excel. But my question is, is there a way to bind or tie the data with your excel sheet. For example, if you change something on your excel file, it will update your InDesign document too.
Please let us know. Thank you very much.

Not directly to the Excel file with Data Merge, but if you put your field placeholders on a master page your merged data should update (when you reopen the file, or issue an update command) if you edit the text file you use as a data source. In other words, you'd need to update the spreadsheet, then resave a new version of the text file, and finally update the merged document.
Depending on what you are doing, it's also possible to simply place an Excel file and link it, but edits and formatting will be lost if the spreadsheet is changrd unless you use table styles or do the formatting in Excel.

  • How do you save a text thread from being deleted off your phone?

I want to save a specific text thread on my phone. Due to the fact that my phone on stores 90 days worth of texts this conversation will be deleted soon. How do I keep it on my phone?

Are you using the stock messaging app, Verizon Messages, or another messaging app?  Each may have a different way of saving messages - long press a message in the thread, or long press the thread itself and see what aoptions you have.
Using Verizon Messages, I see an option to "Save Messages" - you may be able to "lock" messages preventing deletion too.  Other third party apps allow you to download and save messages to a file you can store on your computer.

  • Can you change default text reader from TextEdit?

I use Bean, a great (and free) text editor, and would like to have it open automatically as my default text editor when I click on a text file, rather then TextEdit. Can that be set somewhere? Thanks.

If it were in Preference in addition to telling the system the application to use you would also have to tell which files you wish to make the change on. This way with File Information pane open, the system alreay knows where to make the change.
Beside the information about default application is maintained in the metadata for the file and not in preference for Finder. If you think about it that way, you can see that there is some logic to the way Apple does it.
You are welcome. Glad I could help. Thanks for the star.

  • Can you import old text messages from a backup?

Prior to updating to iOS 8, I did a full backup to iCloud and iTunes.  I decided to start from scratch though.  I think the only thing I'm a little upset to lose is all my text messages.  Is there any way to import them from an old backup?
    iPhone 5
    MacBook Pro

Restoring from a backup is an all or nothing thing. There isn't a way to restore just text messages that I'm aware of.

  • PC users can't save PDF form data from form created on Mac

I'm trying to create a PDF form for a client that will be accessing the form on a PC. However, when the client opens the form, a message appears saying that any data filled in the form cannot be saved and the document must be printed. If the client tries to "Save As" a message appears saying the form will be saved without the data. This defeats the whole purpose of using PDF forms.
What can I do to allow my client to save data in the form? When I check the permissions on my end, there is no security and no restrictions.
    Developer environment:
    Acrobat 9 Pro
    OSX Snow Leopard
    Client environment:
    Windows 7
    Acrobat Pro X

Thanks for the quick response, Karl.
The client downloaded the trial version of Pro X, to verify that the form works before buying. Would the trial version impose restrictions?
The client does not want to store data on a server. He wants the form to function as a template that he can save-as to customize. The completed forms will be shown on the computer as a part of a presentation, sometimes without Internet access.
I tried using the Advanced > Extend Form Features options to enable to ability to save form data, but when I tested the PDF on my PC (Vista, latest version of Reader) I got an error message along the lines of "this document has been modified from previous version, please get a copy of the original" and all form fields are gone.
I'm currently downloading the trial of Pro X so I can test the PDF.
    I am also using a Javascript to allow the client to place photos in the document. This is achieved using a button with a Javascript attached to it: event.target.buttonImportIcon();
This works correctly in my environment, but could it be screwing up the file as it's opened on a PC?

  • HT201343 can you mirror say desktop 2 and still use your mac on desktop 1 with the movie playing on the tv?

I'm interested in Apple TV for the mirroring feature through AirPlay, but will only purchase if I can still use my mac as normal whilst i'm watching what is being mirrored on the tv. Is this possible in any way? like possibly having the movie playing on desktop 2 and mirroring that and still use the mac with the other desktops to browse the internet etc?

No, AirParrot isn't a solution for dexta,
AirParrot gives mirroring function to older computer that are unsupported by the Apple's mirrorring function.  Dexta is looking to extend is display which isn't a feature of AirParrot.
AppleTV will only gives you direct access to some web content using the builtin features like YouTube, Netflix, etc.  If you are looking for unsupported access to other website without using mirroring, then the AppleTV isn't the best hardware to answer your need.

  • How can you tell what apple id is associated with your MAC

I bought a MAC desktop for my business and immediately started using FACETIME. I did a software update and after the update it stated that I couldn't use my FACETIME because the Apple ID had not been set up. I tried setting it up under the email that I had previously been using but it said it was invalid.  I then tried to set it up as a new apple id through Itunes and it said it was already taken.  So I tried the "forgot password" for the apple id and it says nothing is available for that ID. So I am in a "catch 22" and now I cannot use my business email on my business computer for FACETIME.  Any ideas?

How are you using MAS with 10.5.6?
