Can you save editable pdf as read only

I have a client who's using an editable pdf that I set up in the full version of Acrobat 8.0. They would like to edit the doc in Acrobat Reader and then do a save as and make the doc "read Only" so that their viewers can't edit the document after they have made their changes. Is this possible or am I the only one who can make it readable or not readable with the full version of Acrobat?

You can do it. They can't.
If this is something they are going to do a lot of, recommend that they purchase at least Acrobat Standard if not Pro.

  • Possible to save editable pdf as read only?

    I need to make an editable pdf that I can send to a client. The client needs to be able to open it in Adobe Reader, make changes, save it, and then email to customers. Is there any way (in Adobe Reader) that they can make the pdf read-only after they have made their edits, so that their customers can't edit the pdf?

  • Can you change a PDF file to only allow one person have it open on a shared network?

        At my office, we all work from the same network and are constantly sharing files. We need to add comments and edit PDF files. One thing I have noticed is that adobe will not tell you that someone else has the file open until you have made all your changes and are trying to save it. Is there anyway you can be notified when you open the file that someone else is in it or only allow one user to have it open at a time?
    By the way... we are all using Adobe Acrobat X Standard

    No, there isn't. The way you're using the file is not recommended. You
    should use a review tracker to avoid getting in the way of one another.

  • Convert editable PDF to read-only when sent in an email - JavaScript

    I have a real estate company that is trying to have an application that a agent and customer can fill in the needed information, hit a submit button, have the javascript compose an email with the attached pdf.  Here's the issue I'm having: I need to be able to convert the editable pdf to a read only so when the customer receives a copy they cannot edit the information again.
    Here is my javascript code for the submit button:
    // This is the form return email. It's hardcoded
    // so that the form is always returned to the same address.
    // Change address on your form to match the code below
    // Send to buisness email
    var cToAddr = "[email protected]";
    // First, get the client CC email address
    var cCCAddr = this.getField("1st Tenant Email").value;
    if(cCCAddr != "")
    // Now get the second email only if it is filled out
    var cBenAddr = this.getField("2nd Tenant Email").value;
    if(cBenAddr != "")
    // Now get the third email only if it is filled out
    var cthirdAddr = this.getField("3rd Tenant Email").value;
    if(cthirdAddr !="")
    // Set the subject and body text for the email message
    var cSubLine = "Test - Lease Form"
    var cBody = "Thank you for submitting your form.\n" + "Save the filled form attachment for your own records"
    // Send the entire PDF as a file attachment on an email
    this.mailDoc({bUI: true, cTo: cToAddr, cCc: (cCCAddr + "; "
    + cBenAddr + "; " + cthirdAddr), cSubject: cSubLine, cMsg: cBody});

    Hi keely,
    Firstly you will need to buy a Reader Extensions license (this allows Reader to save the form data - otherwise the client will require Acrobat). Once this is done, you will then need a button (called "Lock Down" or something) that executes a script that makes all of the fields readOnly and updates a form variable (say, "locked") to indicate that the form is locked. You will also need to add a script to the initialize event that checks for the value of "locked", then executes the readOnly script (if the form needs to be locked down). An example of a readOnly script can be found on page 434 of http://www.adobe.com/go/learn_lc_scriptingReference (see "Disabling all form fields" script)
    Here is a sample form ( https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/9df046bd-1125-4923-95de-35fc845139ca ) with a 'Lock All fields' button. Once you click this button all the forms turn 'Read only'.
    Another way to accomplish this which still requires Reader Extensions or Acrobat Pro is to use digital signatures. The people you are sending this to should have certificates set up.
    Hope this helps.

  • In Adobe Acrobat X, can you save a PDF to a temp file and forward the email back out?

    I'm running windows 7 Professional x64
    Adobe Acrobat X Professional
    Microsoft Office 2010 professional
    While  using Adobe Acrobat 9 with Office 2007, I have a user that was previously able to receive a PDF in Outlook, sign it, save it to the temp files, then forward the original email to a different user with my signature and changes saved within the PDF.  Now that I have upgraded to Acrobat X and Office 2010, that capability is no longer available, but I can complete the aforementioned process when using Microsoft Excel.
    Is there a way to do this with Adobe X and Office 2010, or was that capability removed with the upgrade to one of the 2 software packages?
    The error that I get when signing a document is:
    document_name.pdf
    This file is set to read-only.
    Try again with a different file name

    These are the screens that I am presented with when trying to save or open a file in Adobe Acrobat Pro DC. I am logged in with my account and have mobile sharing activated on my iOS app.
    OS: Windows 7 64-bit.

  • Why does Firefox 4 not let you save a pdf document using the "File" tab. Internet Explorer * give you an option..."Save as....". Can I get same function with FF4?

    Can't save a pdf file using the 'File' tab in FF4.

    Clicking "Save Page As..." in the Firefox menu should work fine. However, if the server you are downloading from is set up incorrectly, Firefox might recommend a filename which does not have the ".pdf" extension (e.g. "get_file.php"). In this case type ".pdf" at the end of the file name.

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Save editable PDF so clients can't edit it

    If they have Reader, then they can not make them uneditable.

  • Can you save your own theme and button set up so I can use the same format

    Can you save your own theme and button set up, so I can use this same format for similar content. I want to keep the button content and the theme the same without having to create it everytime? I am trying to streamline the process for multiple dvd's with the same menu and buttons but different content. Does that make sense?

    I am only new to this caper too, but I am pretty sure you can save a theme as a favourite by pressing the "save theme as favourite" button under file. If you have edited an existing theme but don't want to lose it, make sure you untick the replace existing button.

  • Can you save as an earlier version of FCP?

    I don't know of anyway, but the director I am working with says a few people have told her it can...

    I don't see how this could be done, but if you know please let me know.
    thanks

    It doesn't matter what are the names of these forums. Major companies provide these *official* forums to harvest troubleshooting results of their products for free. You never be able to test your product on this number of various environment this much cheap.
    Unlike their support services these "USER" forums provides them with those product issues they are looking for without ANY obligation to solve them or even accept their existence. And best of all they collect all these information at no cost.
    However, in honest and considerate companies, development team members share their opinions with forum users. They even admit they are aware of issues but have no solution for them at this time. If team members do not have enough time for providing feedback, they somehow use *well-trained* individuals to discuss the issues.
    Those companies do not "Read and Hide". They "read and discuss".
    Anyway, unfortunatly, the links you found are not related to this discussion. They are about PDFMaker issue in other component of Office not Outlook.
