Can you share music between two iPods?

my sister just got an iPod, and she wants some of my songs from my iPod without bying them online... both accounts are on the same computer, and i was wondering if it's possible to kind of copy and paste my music to her ipod with out deleting them from my account... if it is possible, can you please reply and tell me how to do this? thanks

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
TuneJack Windows Only
iPod2PC Windows Only
iGadget Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
iRepo Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions

There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Can you share music between iTunes accounts on the same computer? My kids iPods are under my account now with all of our shared music but they want their own iTunes accounts. I would like to transfer the music and apps that they purchased under my account to their new accounts... Is this posible?

Did you enable the display of system files and hidden files and folders?
by the way, how can i stop this from happening another time.
    Make a backup!
i had music there for over 6 years.
Well you must have updated iTunes once or twice in that time. Do you have some sort of "tidying" app that is supposed to clean "unnecessary" files. If so perhaps it is too aggressive.

  • Can you share music between 2 Apple ID's on the same network?

Can you share music between 2 Apple ID's on the same network?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
You can share content between 2 libraries that have different ID's for the iTunes Store, yes.
You need to make sure that both libraries are using the same ID for home sharing though (from the File menu)

  • Can i share music between two iTunes accounts on the same computer

I know you can share the library with 'home share', but can you copy the titles to the account sothey can be loaded on to an ipod / iphone?
Or have i got to load any required music on to the computer a second time?

iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer
Note that when it says "publicly accessible location", it needs to be a place where everyone has read and write access. The most common such place is the Shared folder in the Users folder, but you can place the music elsewhere if you change the access permissions manually (don't start tinkering with permissions unless you're confident you know what you're doing and can reverse things if they get messed up).

  • How can I share music between two computers and two accounts?

My wife and I each have our own devices. I would like to purchase an album and have it on both accounts so we do not have to buy the same album twice just because we both like it. I have seen many articles on how to achieve this on a single computer but nothing that talks about multiple computers and multiple accounts.

By account I take it you mean computer account, not iTunes Store account.  You can't currently share items between multiple store accounts though you can share it between computer accounts.  Also read about changes in forthcoming iOS8.

  • Can you share music between itunes accounts

I just currently purchased an Ipad for my daughter to use at school.  I need to set her up for her own account, but in doing so she will lose all of her music when she syncs her ipod up to that account as well.  Is there a way for me to have her Ipod sync or download the music from the cloud and then have both her ipod and ipad on her own itunes account?

An iTunes library can hold media from multiple accounts. iPods and iPod devices are limited to protected content from up to five different accounts. Apps and movies are generally protected, most music won't be unless it was purchased quite some time ago. Ideally I'd suggest you make a clone of your library for your daughter to take with her, then see can keep what she wants, discard what she doesn't and start using her own account here on out.
In the event that she is using the device independenly of an iTunes library see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • How do you share information between two iPod Touches?

My girlfriend and I are considering iTouches to replace our old Palm Z22s. We beam a LOT of data between our Palms — grocery lists, contacts, events, notes, tasks, expenses, odometer/milage entries on cars — almost every day.
How does one instantly transfer data between two iTouches?

So there's no easy way to do this? Can't say I'm surprised, the way Apple has become a "my way or the highway" brand.
It's simple: I've added 10 items to my grocery list. She's added 5 items to hers. We're at the grocery store, where I'm about to shop while she runs other errands.
How do I get her shopping list from her iTouch to mine while standing there in front of the store?
With our Palm Z22s, using 10-year-old technology, she can beam me her list in about 2 seconds.
With the iPod Touch, apparently she can't send me her list at all, unless, what? She copies down each item into an email, finds free wifi, sends the email to me, I receive it, then copy the items in the email back into my copy of our shopping list app?
    REALLY?!?

  • Can you share music between computers and seperate ipods?

I would like to know if I could share my itunes with someone on a different computer and with a seperate ipod. Me and my sister (who's in college) would like to continue sharing music because we usually split the cost of cds.
My main question is: Is it possible to share one itunes account with multiple ipods that can be accessed from any computer?
What we would like to do is continue sharing music without having to wait until both of our ipods are in the same location and using the same computer. It would be nice if I could get into the same account as her and when she adds music I also receive the music and when I add music she gets it as well.
This may be an impossible request but I have been searching the forums for hours trying to figure it out. If someone could please respond, even if it's not possible, that would be VERY helpful.
    Thanks.

What you want is not supported with iTunes. You can both use the same account on different computers but what one downloads or adds will not be available to the other. If you are separated by location then CDs or DVDs recorded as data files are the best option. Record the files to disk then mail the disk. As long as you are both authorized to the same iTunes account I don't know of any issue with that.

  • Can I share music between two different ITunes accounts?

My daughter has iTunes on her Ipod under her iTunes account and I have my music on my IPhone 4S under my account.
We want to share some songs, is this possible?

Import the music in to iTunes library that is used for syncing the device and then sync to the iPod.
    You can import by:

  • How do you share music between two iTunes accounts on one computer?

My wife and I share a Windows 7 laptop computer.  We have separate Windows logins and separate iTunes accounts.  When we had separate computers we were able to use Home Sharing to share our music but this doesn't work when you have two accounts on the same computer.
Is there a way to share our music libraries without wiping out what is already stored in our individual iTunes music libraries?

  • Can you share libraries between two different version of iTunes?

My school recently got MacBook Pro's for everyone, and we are allowed to put our music on them to listen to during study hall. I was just trying to transfer my iTunes library on my Windows computer over to my MacBook, and the home sharing doesn't show that they're on the same network. They're using the same wi-fi and I used the same account on both, but the Windows is on iTunes 11 and my MacBook is on iTunes 10. I can't download 11 on to my MacBook without a tech at the school's authorization, so I'm stuck with 10 on that one and 11 on this. Is that why the home sharing won't work? If so, there isn't anyway I can revert this one back to 10, is there?

    Yes,
on the device login using the other persons account and go to app store. Check for apps not yet downloaded onto this device and you will see what you are missing from the other account. You can then download it onto that device and use it.
You then go to settings and store and go back to your own account. When you come to updates though, the apps bought using the other account will not update unless you login using the others persons apple ID or at least know their password.
My wife and I have the same apps distributed across two iphones and an ipad using a mixture of either's apple IDs.

  • How do you share music between two user accounts for multimedia purposes???

I am working with iDVD and am running into a slight snafu. My girlfriend has most of the pictures in her iPhoto account, while I have most of the music in my iTunes account. (she works on maintaining our over flowing pictures, while I handle paying for all our music... works out nice. <wink>)
Anyways, we were both working on a new photo DVD for family using iDVD and were frustrated that we could not pull in music from my iTunes account to use with her pictures in iDVD. I am uncertain if we are doing anything wrong and just do not know how to do it, or if it is not possible. We also have a few pictures on my iPhoto account we wanted to add to the DVD, but cannot access those either from her account while in iDVD.
Is it possible to share this data back and forth without making two copies of all of it?
    Thanks for all your help!!

Follow the steps after the section that says "If you have an earlier version of Mac OS X", Quintalis. It explains how to do it without the Fast User Switching/iTunes Sharing which is indeed limited only to playback.
Note that when it says "publicly accessible location", it needs to be a place where everyone has read and write access. The most common such place is the Shared folder in the Users folder.

  • Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?

Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same MacBook Pro?
Specifically, I used the Migration Assistant to move music and photos from my old PC to my new MacBook.
Somehow, I missed the fact that it was creating a new user account when it was doing this.  So none of music and photos are in the user account I originally set-up.  Instead, all these files are now in a different account.
I'd like to consolidate all my files on the one user account and delete the other one.
Is this possible and, if so, how do I do it?
    Thank you.

you can crop files from one account to another using the Public Dropbox which every user account has.  Log into the user that has the files you want to move, then drag the folder you want to the new users' dropbox:
I suggest a small scale test on a few files first before moving gigabytes of files.
