Can you somehow speed up audio recognition of a newly imported file?

When I import a new big file, it can take several minutes even on my very powerful computer for Pr to "read" it sound-wise. I can jump around freely in the video, but without the sound, it often makes it hard to make cuts before it is finished. It would be nice if Pr knew where I was in the timeline of the video and "discovered" audio "nearby" instead of going from start to finish in a linear fashion.

Really sure You are looking into Your "user" folder ?
In this there is a folder with in my case "my account" eg "Bengt"
in this ther IS a library folder
and in this ther should be an iMovie folder. If not I would make one
and into this put a folder "Plug-ins" and in this put Your plug-ins.
Restart Your Mac and open iMovie and see if it found the new plug-ins.

Can you somehow access prior versions of Professional on v9?. Need v7 but co only authorizes v9.

At our company we have been using Professional "compare" for many, many years to compare PDF files. Now the company only supports the latest version, v9. But we can only use version 7 as the later versions picks up far too many things we're not interested in. If we can't use vs 7 at the company we will have to find a new software for this. But we don't want to. The question is, can you somehow load v7 access on v 9? You know the way Microsoft WORD allows you to select older versions on the latest version?

No, there isn't. The way you're using the file is not recommended. You
should use a review tracker to avoid getting in the way of one another.

\toolkit\Java Mapping\Software\aii_map_api.jar directory. [In the XI Server installation directory].
I do not have permissions to access this file.

Can you use Snow Leopard Server with Timewarner Road runner for file sharin

I have Time Warner Roadrunner service for internet. I have there fastest package. they said it has a dynamic ip address. If you are using Snow Leopard Server and I want todo File sharing upload and downloads to my Macpro do I have to have a static ip address or is there a way around this. The Static ip address accounts are expensive
Also from your experience. if I have 12 people uploading and downloading files willt his bring my browsing in safari to a crawl?

You need to first check with your provider to see if that service is even allowed (often it is not). You may have to subscribe to a commercial or small business service to set up an FTP or other file sharing server.
Actual performance depends upon what your upload capacity is, and how much of that is being used by the total users using the service. It is possible a single user downloading files from your server will consume your entire pipe. OTOH, it might support hundreds of simultaneous users, if they are each using a small amount. In reality, your link capacity will be shared by all users regardless of the number of users.

Can you transfer music and audio books between computers via home sharing?

I just reformatted my iMac and would like to restore some music and an audio book from my MacBook Pro. Somehow, I got the audio book onto my MacBook Pro, which was originally downloaded to my iMac, but now I can't seem to transfer it back.

I figured it out. Home sharing was not activated on the iMac, even though I could see both computers on each computer. I tried to transfer all my music from the iMac to my MacBook Pro before I wiped everything off the iMac, but couldn't figure it out. I with I knew that before I reformatted it. I do, however, however, have everything backed up on disks. iTunes is one of the most confusing programs I've ever used...

and it has aiff,aac and mp3, no wav or omf and no options to include as multi tracks rather than a single stereo track or 5.1 surround

Have actually done that and sent a test piece to the broadcaster. Not sure if I have got the audio tracks in the right order.... from top to bottom would that be audio tracks 1-4, with four at the bottom? I am waiting to hear back from the broadcaster to see if the test piece works as they expect it to.

Hearing just Music from the Itunes Videos. Can you access just the audio?

Have a 40 Gb Color Ipod and have loaded some videos on my Imac....just wondering if there is a way to hear the music part from the videos. For that matter if it can be loaded on the color display Ipod. I'm not concerned about watching the video...but would like to be able to hear the music....even just burn a CD to hear the music only.

Anything you buy from the iTunes Music Store has digital rights management built in. Basically you would have to use a 3rd party program to extract the audio portion, and Apple get very touchy about posts that discuss messing with purchased music/videos.
The last couple were removed by the Mods. Just so you know. : )

Can you somehow use Lightroom to rename RAW files?

Okay let's say in one folder on my hard drive I have three RAW files: _DSC0001.NEF and _DSC0002.NEF and _DSC0003.NEF. Now let's say I have reformatted my memory card so my camera will once again start labeling new images with _DSC0001.NEF.
So let's say now I go out and shoot three more RAW files: _DSC0001.NEF and _DSC0002.NEF and _DSC0003.NEF.
If I try to transfer these brand new images into my original folder there will be some duplicate naming which you can't do.
What I have been doing is going into the new folder that holds the new three images and renaming them: so I change _DSC0001.NEF to _DSC0004.NEF and I change _DSC0002.NEF to _DSC0005.NEF and I change _DSC0003.NEF to _DSC_0006.NEF.
Instead of me having to manually rename each photo I was wondering if I could import these new photos into Lightroom and then tell Lightroom to export these RAW images but starting at the sequence _DSC0004.NEF...and so forth.
I mean I can't have a folder that has this: _DSC0001.NEF and then _DSC0001.NEF.
I hope I have made myself clear.
Or am I doing this all wrong?
And I would want Lightroom to export the original, unedited RAW file. It's just that I would be using Lightroom to rename them to keep proper sequencing.

It can take a little getting used to but once you have you will find it quite easy.
By the way I rename my files with the date first (GW20110514-12345.xxx) which may be useful to you.

You just transfer the backup you made from your old computer to your new computer, then sync the new iPod. What? You didn't make a backup? You should have.
In any case, it's usually possible to get most if not all of the data from a broken computer by removing the hard drive and installing it in a USB enclosure, which can be bought for as little as $10.

Where can you find speed information on client?

I would like to determine what speed my OS X 10.5 machines have negotiated with the AirPort Extreme, but I don't see this status information anywhere. I've checked About This Mac and Network Preferences.
Does anyone know where I can see whether I'm connected at 802.11n (e.g. rather than 802.11g) and what speed data should be moving at?

I have the "AirPort Utility" version 5.2.2 on my MacBook Pro C2D and when I use it to connect to my AirPort Extreme it says "AirPort Utility - AirPort Extreme" up top. Under my "Logs and Statistics" I don't have any "Wireless Clients"... just "Logs" and it looks like there's encryption stuff, information regarding drives I've plugged in, etc.
Is there a different AirPort Utility I should be using?

Some commercial releases have alternate audio tracks, such as "Jaws" which in one recent edition features the ability to choose the original theatrical mono track.
Is there any way of choosing this when DVD Player opens on your Mac?

If you click and hold down the mouse button on the Speaker Icon in the DVD Player controls, a drop down menu will appear to let you select the Audio Menu:
and then make your choice there, is that what you wanted to do?
