Can you still access Windows partition with open firmware password installed?

Can you still access Windows partition with open firmware password installed? If so, do you still use the Option key upon restart?

I don't use Bootcamp.  However, I do know that with a firmware password, pressing the option key at startup will cause the password entry screen to come up; after entering the password, you will get the boot device choice screen.
So, if Bootcamp partitions normally show up on that screen then it should work just fine, or so I'd imagine.

  • Can you still access Adobe PDF SAVED FILES WHEN YOU GET A NEW COMPUTER

Can you still access Adobe PDF SAVED FILES WHEN YOU GET A NEW COMPUTER ? Do you loose the files you have saved on you old computer when you get another computer?

I may not be clear on what you are asking here but I'll try an answer anyway since that's the type of guy I am.
If you have PDF files on your old computer, you will need to transfer them to your new computer. You can use a flash drive or CD if needed.
But again, I think I'm not getting what you are really wanting to know. If I'm not, can you give us some more details?

  • Protect macbook with Open Firmware password

Hi. I'd like to protect my MacBook air by enable an Open Firmware password.
How can I do it ?

Open Firmware was available in PowerPC-based Macs, so your MacBook Air hasn't got it. Instead, it's a EFI firmware password, that will ask you for a password every time you want to start in a mode different than the normal one (without holding any key while your Mac is starting up).
To enable it, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start up into OS X Recovery. Then, go to Utilities menu (on the menu bar) > Firmware Password Utility, and enable it.
Don't forget the password. Only Apple knows how to reset it, so you will have problems

  • Zap PRAM with Open Firmware Password?

I'm wondering if there is any way to do this...
I have an older MacBook that had some kind of issue recently, that first prevented it from booting at all, and after resetting the SMC it would boot but the screen is black...
I remember from many years ago that there was an issue with the screen staying black that would be fixed by zapping the pram...
Problem is the system has an Open Firmware password.  And while I do know what that passowrd is, it's kind of impossible to go in and disble it with a black screen...
In essense, is there any possible way I can zap the PRAM that doesn't involve psychicly guessing what I'm doing???

I'm fully aware of the key combination.  The problem is when Open Firmware password is enabled, holding CMD-OPT-P-R has no effect....  The only way I know to be able to use the key combiantion is to disalbe the Open Firmware password first, then reboot and hold hte keys down.
Which is where my problem lies, as I can't zap the PRAM until I disable my Open Firmware password, and I can't go though the steps to disable my Open Firmware password until after I zap the PRAM in order to re-enable my screen...

  • Help with Open Firmware Password Utility

    Hi,
I tried to run the Open Firmware Password Utility on Kittendaddy's indigo iMac (running Tiger 10.4.11) and nothing happened. The app acted like it was going to open, but didn't.
I found the app here: www.apple.com/support/downloads/openfirmwarepassword.html
    What did I do wrong?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks, everyone. Unfortunately, it looks like Kittendaddy's iMac may have died the true death earlier tonight (and it had nothing to do with trying to install the open firmware password utility!). I just hope I can get it to start up one last time so I can get his music off it.

  • Can't create a windows partition with bootcamp

    Hi
i have a MacBook Air. Standard, no changes from my side.
I have the newest Lion update and BootCamp in Version 4.
So, now i want to install Windows 7 64 Bit.
    I start BootCamp Assistant.
The first point, is grey. i can't activate it. This point is to create a Windows 7 Install Disk
Second Point is to download the drivers and so on. This is working. I have the stuff on a usb stick.
Third Point is to create/install Windows 7. So, i have the posibility to decide how big i want my windows partition. 20-32 GB.
when i click on create button. There comes a pop up "Installtions CD is not found"
I have a bootable Windows 7 USB Stick (8 GB - Fat32). The Stick works. When i boot with refit from the stick, the Windows 7 installation starts. But without a partition ... not so good :-)
So, what can i do now? BootCamp don`t want the Windows USB Stick.
    I need help :-)
    Thanks

  • After I had upgraded to Mavericks I can't make a Windows partition with Windows XP.

I'm trying to make a Windows partition. I have before but I recently had to have my computer re-formatted and all of it wiped. I have the Windows XP disk and everything and I've had it before, it was only after I upgraded to Mavericks it didn't work. It says I have to use a Windows 8 DVD or usb port which I don't have either of.

You need to do that from Mac OS X 10.6.8 or earlier, or use a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion instead.

  • Can you still access a CC trial version if you have previously trial another CC program?

I Teach InDesign at a college that has CS4 installed and, before CC, would suggest to students they download the InDesign trial to try the latest version. Some them have already downloaded trials of other CC programs. Is it possible for them still to access InDesign CC?

    GautamBahl wrote:
If they have not used Indesign CC trial for 30 days then they can use the trial version.
    Thanks
    Hi GautamBahl
Does that apply to Photoshop CC as well ?.
I downed the trial version (14.0 I think) last year.  At least two new versions (14.1.2 and 14.2.1) of Photoshop CC have been released since.  Obviously I have not used the trial in the last 30 day, is it permissible to download the trial again to assess the new feature that have been added ?.

  • Can you still watch regular tv with Apple Tv?

I dont know if I can. I was just wondering.

atv is like a stationary ipad where the screen is your tv
so no it will not recieve tv from cable or sat nor radio
it play what it can access from your computer
and what it can access from the internet services it support
which is also why the people who keep requesting DVR support for it don't make any sense

    Ok Great,
Will installing Boot Camp drivers allow me to both read and write to the OS X Volume from windows?
This is important as if it will it means i can make the windows partition a lot smaller and keep all my files on the OS X partition which would be preferable.
    Jon
No, OSX will be read only (from Windows) and vice versa. (you can install 3rd party utilities on either or both partitions, to make read/write possible)

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Can you still purchase videos with itunes 6??

Like everyone else I downloaded itunes7, at first I got all error messages, and missing files. I spent 3 hrs. on the phone with Apple technicians and they had me download itunes7 and quicktime separately. Now I can at least open itunes, but that is about it. Itunes played audio but no video, but I went in and disabled the 3D from my video, now the videos play but are fuzzy and freeze. I have a 60GB ipod which I am afraid to sync with my computer. Does that mean if connect my ipod to my computer for synching, that will screw up my ipod?? I tried to uninstall itunes7 and its components and load the itunes cd that came with my ipod itunes 6.01 but it wouldn't work. In my itunes library it doesn't list videos anymore. Only TV shows, music and podcasts? Where did the video listing go? My 60GB ipod was recently purchased with an extended warranty, do you think if I return it and purchase a 80GB with the itunes cd and install that, it might work better? Can you still purchase videos if I manage to somehow get back itunes6?? The Apple technician said they would get back to me but of course they haven't. One last thing, I can finally connect to the itunes store but when I preview a video it freezes.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
While I haven't tried, I would image the answer is no.
Usually when iPods are released with a new iTunes version, they aren't made to be/are made not to be compatible with previous iTunes versions.
It may work, but I can't be sure either way (someone else may have tested this).
In the past, even if iTunes updated the iPod, there tended to be problems syncing.

  • HT1338 i have apps to be updated but when i try to update them a message pops out saying "You have updates for other accounts, please sigh in with the other id". Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created.

Can some one help me how can i still update the same with the new apple id ive created. As i dont have the access to the earlier id anymore.

You cannot. The apps are assigned to that Apple ID and there is nothing you can do to change that. You could choose to download them again with the new Apple ID, any paid apps will need to be purchased again.
    Hope that helps.
