Can you sync only part of an address book to a trio?

the situation: if you have lots and lots of contacts in your address book, and only want some of them on your pda, is there a way to do this?
also, is there a way to create seperate address books. I can only seem to make new groups.

The native sync to the treo is quite limited, so I and others have gone with MissingSync, which is quite nice. It syncs more of your email addresses and phone numbers, mapping the group to a category on the treo, and it syncs up to 7 email or phone fields. I think the native isync maxes out at 4 of those.
In MissingSync, you can specify which groups are synced. The others are ignored. So create a group called, say, syncgroup, drag the contacts you want into it (remember contacts can have more than one group so you're not actually moving them anywhere), and tell missingsync to sync that group and not the others. Done.

Can't sync just one "Group" within Address Book anymore!

Is anyone else having a problem like this or is it specific to me:
iSync no longer offers me the option of selecting a specific Group within my Address book, for syncing with my Moto RAZR V3 phone. The only option is to sync "All Contacts" -- but my Address Book exceeds the capacity of my phone's memory. As a result, my most recent sync attempt wiped out my entire phonebook on the RAZR and I am unable to restore it with iSync.
What happened to the ability to select a specific Group for syncing? Is this a "bug" or a new "feature" of the post-MobileMe era?

That ability is definitely still there - although I have seen iSync forget to show custom Groups before.
First, make a backup of your Address Book and iCal data by using the relevant command on the File menu in each app.
Then try backing up then deleting the SyncServices folder found in ~/Library/Application Support/
Restart the Mac, and re-load iSync. If that doesn't help some of the links below may do:

Can't sync Contacts from a CardDAV address book

With a BB Curve 9320 running OS 7 an syncing on a Mac running OS 10.7 with BB desktop software 2.4 I am unable to sync my address book to the BB.
Both iCal and Address book are on push notifications via CalDAV and CardDAV from an apple app called Daylite.
The iCal syncs fine on the BB but I do not see any contacts in the BB Contacts app. On the Mac that is used to sync, the Address book has no contacts listed in the "On my Mac" section. All the contacts in Address book are from the push from Daylite.
This is doing my head in, so if any one has any ideas of where I might be going wrong or doing something stupid, then I'd be very grateful.

It looks like your BB is syncing directly to your Mac Address Book and not with the Daylite app. Judging from the fact that both your Address Book and BB contacts app are empty.

IPhone syncs only SOME of my Address Book contacts...?

Just realized I'm having a bit of a syncing issue... For some reason my iPhone is not including all of my contacts from Address Book. I have a total of 63 Address Book contacts, but my iPhone is only at 53!? If I add a new contact in my iPhone, it will carry over to Address Book, but it doesn't seem to be adding a few contacts from my list... Any ideas? I can't find any similarities between the missing contacts either. Oh, and I'm on the most current iPhone version as well.

Try resetting the sync history on your Mac.
Applications > iSync > iSync Preferences > Reset Sync History
After resetting the sync history, restart your Mac and then try syncing again

For everyone who can't sync your iPhone with Yahoo Address Book

I was having trouble syncing my Yahoo address book with my iphone. I kept getting the "iTunes could not sync with Yahoo! Address Book because an Internet connection is not available." window.
This is what I did to solve the problem, at least for me.
Add your Yahoo account to iPhone under “mail”. Make sure you use your full e-mail address, [email protected]
Launch iTunes first, then connect the iPhone.
Enter in your full e-mail address ([email protected]) and password in iTunes.
Allow the following applications to access the Internet (I’m using a firewall):
iTunesHelper Module
iTunes
AppleMobileBackup.exe
AppleMobileSync
iTunes then synced with Yahoo every time.
This was done on Windows XP. I do not think this problem occurs on a Mac.

Make sure the Mac is updated, click the Apple> Software Updates.

Can you Sync different parts from different machines

I've got an iPod with Video and three computers with music on (work, home and laptop).
I'd like to sync my podcasts from work, contacts and calendar from my laptop and add music from all three.
As far as I can tell you can't do this? If it's synced with one machine none of the others will be able to copy to it
I've got two Macs and a PC, and the iPod is formatted for Windows.

I have just fired up a new ipad, and am not getting the "info" tab in the bar, so I can't sync my contacts from my address book on my macBook Pro ... ??

Any clues as to how I can get this happening, and sync all my data that I can sync to my iPhone ? I don't seem to be getting all the faclilities I am suppopsed to ... most frustrating.

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :

iCal sync is fine. All the proper boxes in iTunes are checked. The iPhone is reconized in iTunes. Any suggestions?

Sorry I don't have an answer for you. I kind of doubt Apple has added a solution for that yet, since your Facebook account is not yet synced through iCloud; it is set up independantly on each device.
However I hope you can help me, I cannot figure out how to manually link contacts on my Mac; there is no Add Link button like there is on the phone...

Hey all, thanks for looking. Apologies if this is an obvious RTFM issue, but I can't find talk of it anywhere. There must be many couples with two cell phones who could/would share the same address book via bluetooth.
Will our iBook G4 with Bluetooth sync the Mac address book onto two different wireless phones? That would be so cool. We use only one account on the Mac, therefore one address book (I think).
We see the Motorola E815 has iSync, which kicks butt, and we're thinking of buying two of them. Thanks again for looking.

David, nice to hear from you again, hope you are well.
This user tip might help you understand how accounts work with Address Book.
I believe you have duplicates because you have two sets of contacts. "iCloud" and "On My Mac". Once you have created all your contacts in the iCloud account, you should delete them from On My Mac.
You can move contacts simply by dragging and dropping from one account to the other, you don't need to export them all to the desktop (although doind so will serve as a good back up if all goes wrong). You should note that this copies them though rather than simply move them, so you'll need to delete the old set when you are done.
As for preserving groups from the On My Mac Account, you can't but you can simplify recreating them by copying contacts (drag and drop) from an on my mac group to an empty group in iCloud.
Not sure about the contacts that you are struggling to move.
Many aspects of iCloud are difficult to understand, have a mull through what I've said so far and come back if everything still doesn't fall into place.

The syncing of iTunes content is a one way transfer process only - from iTunes on your computer, or from your iPhone to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after purchasing/downloading music, video, or 3rd party apps with your iPhone.
iTunes content is not kept synchronized but is part of the iTunes sync/transfer process. Photos transferred from your compute to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process are not kept synchronized either. The transfer of photos is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.
The only bi-directional or true sync process is for contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on your computer. The same for notes if you are using a supported application on your computer for syncing notes.
In regards to iTunes content, an iPhone can be synced with an iTunes library on a single computer only, and photos can be transferred from a single computer only. When transferring iTunes content and photos from another computer, all iTunes content and photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first. You can sync contacts, calendar events, and Safari bookmarks with the supported applications on multiple computers.
You need to transfer your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer along with all other important data that you will need or want to access on your new computer such as photos, documents, etc. All iTunes content is stored in an iTunes named folder. With iTunes quit on your new computer, place the copy of the iTunes named folder from your old computer in the appropriate location for access by iTunes on your new computer. You will also need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only. First you need to authorize your computer with your iTunes account with iTunes. With your iPhone connected to iTunes and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
The iPhone is not designed or intended to be used as a backup storage device or as a storage device to transfer data from one computer to another.

I have only tried one pdf file which downloaded wonderfully to the iPhone. I synced to the PC without the PC being connected to the email account. This also worked except that when I tried to open the attachment on the PC I got a message that the mail wasn't fully downloaded. When I went on=line on the PC, it downloaded the attachment. I would love to have this option because I can't access some email accounts from my corporate computer.

No it is not. The only information synced regarding email accounts is the email account information only and this is in one direction only - from your computer to the iPhone via iTunes.

No you don't. You log into iTunes with your Apple ID but you can use one Apple ID for iTunes and a different Apple ID for iCloud. On your device go:
Settings > iCloud > Delete Account and sign in with a new Apple ID
This will only change the Apple ID for iCloud and both devices will continue to download apps and backup to the shared iTunes account.
