Can you tell if it is a display problem or logic board problem

I have a 17 inch aluminum mac book pro. I bought it from a reseller on ebay in February. Recently I have been having some display issues. It has taken it longer and longer for screen to come back on from sleeping and the other day it did not come back on at all. I thought it could be a faulty graphics card because it is one of the models that has the faulty card in it but when I took it to my local mac authorized dealer they said that because there was damage to the hinges of screen, they thought it was a display issue and suggested I get a new screen for upwards of 900 dollars. While testing it they plugged it into an external display and the screen turned on for a few seconds. When they closed it, it did not come back on. Back at home I did a similar test and plugged in an external monitor and it worked for a while but as soon as i turned i closed the lid the display went off again and now I cant get it to display even when connected to external monitor. WHen i turn it on i can hear the chime and i can control the volume and keyboard brightness. My question is whether this is a simple display issue, a faulty graphics card issue, or a logic board issue? Please help me. I am going to fix the computer either way I would jsut like to know if it is a screen issue that I could replace myself.

If the Macbook Pro was made between 2007 and 2008 it maybe the Nvidia issue.
I suggest you take it to an Apple center and have them run the test.
The damaged hinge should not affect the test, I would think.
Be warned though, just because you have exactly the same symptoms does not mean it will fail the test or more importantly, if the test does not generate a fault code, Apple will not repair.
Did this start after the 10.5.7 update and more importantly did you run the SMC 1.3 update as well?
If you can get the machine to start properly, deleting the /var/vm/sleepimage seems to eliminate the symptoms of not waking. Before you delete is take note of it's size.
It's my opinion that this file also caused the machine to hang after the SMC 1.3 update when the lid was closed the first or second time. The machine then continued to run generating lots of heat. You may not have noticed and just found the machine with a flat battery one day.
If that is the case, damage is done and the symptoms are the same as the Nvidia extend warranty issue except not covered!

I'm awaiting the same thing, also in the U.K. The service center told me that they've had many of these repairs, and that there is a substantial backorder for logic boards in the U.K. I was told that it could be 6-8 weeks, which is absolutely appalling. I think that's an intolerable amount of time to repair a brand new, quite expensive computer.

He has decided to get a new iMac but he's wondering about all the photos and other files he has on the old hard drive. What are the ways that he can get files from the old hard drive on to his new one when he gets it? Thanks in advance for your help with this!

roam's method is a very good one!
I don't know if this will work because of the bad Logic Board, but another way, may be to use Firewire Target Disk Mode.
The ailing iMac would have to be Firewire enabled, and you would need access to another Firewire Mac.

Hp photosmart 2610xi how can you tell if it has the "optional duplex feature" on board?

I need to know if the HP photosmart 2610xi printer has an optional duplex print feature on board. the user guide I can not find support for the feature. Note the mfg. specifications states it is an Optional feature for the printer. Thanks in advance for your help in this question.

Normally you can check using printer properties when print or you can check to see if it had a duplexer and you can also check using its specs:

Does this only occur after you use Siri? Otherwise do you have keyboard clicks when you type?
If you totally lost keyboard clicks did you check in Settings>Sounds>Keyboard Clikcs and make sure that it is still turned on?
If you have no keyboard clicks, email notifications or sounds in apps - system sounds are muted. Do you have those other sounds?

Backup and restore your software via iTunes. If the problem continues, restore as a NEW device. If this solves it, that means there is some corruption in your backup file. If the problem is still there, you should take it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store for evaluation.

About 5 days ago for no apparent reason at all, about
7000 songs which i have collected over a number of
years has just decided that it wont play in ITUNES or
in any other of my media players. When you click on
Play over a song nothing happens. The play icon
doesnt even come up on the screen.
Steps I have taken so far are:
1 - Remove all tracks from ITUNES and then re-add the
folder where all the songs are. This has obviously
removed all songs, but when I have re-added the
folder , it has added about 650 tracks back on to the
playlist. These 650 tracks will play. This leaves
approx 6400 tracks that it wont play.
By the way all the songs on my PC are MP3 type and I
have had no problem playing any of them until last
week.
2 - I have re-installed ITUNES and reinstalled
Quicktime and that has not worked.
3 - All of my songs are backed up on to a External
Hard Drive. I have tried to restore the songs and
also play them directly from the external hard drive.
I get the same problem when I do this.
4 - I have enabled and allowed all permissions for
the account that I am running the PC from.
I am guessing there must be some settnig or Registry
Key that is blocking me playing the tracks from the
PC. I have also tried to launch the songs in Media
Player and Sonic stage but thsi has not played
either.
All the tracks are in the folder structure as they
were before so I know they are there. I just need to
somehow unlock them.......
If anyone has any ideas, I would be very grateful as
I dont want to lose my entire music collection.
Also I cannot find anyweher on here that is a Support
number or email address for Apple as this is an
ITUNES issue and they should be resolving it for
me!!!!

It sounds like you may have subscriptions.
If you want to view your app subscriptions:
From your device's Home screen, tap App Store.
Tap Featured at the bottom of the screen.
Scroll to the bottom of the page.
Tap the Apple ID button in the lower-left corner. (If you are not signed in, tap the Sign In button, and sign in with your Apple ID. Then, scroll back to the bottom of the page, and tap the Apple ID button.)
Tap the View Apple ID button.
Enter your password and tap OK.
From the main account page, scroll down and tap Manage App Subscriptions. If you don't have app subscriptions this button will not be displayed.

we're using Oracle apps 11.5.10 and we have the usual leading zero problem when exporting to Excel.
From what I've read, Excel uses the 'TypeGuessRows' registry setting to read through a specify number of rows to decide whether a column is numeric and then drops the leading zeros. I've also seen the proposed solution of putting a quote mark to trick Excel. We have a requirement to display the right numbers including leading zeroes in both PDF and Excel. So now I'm down to 2 choices.
1) create a separate template for PDF without the quote or my question
- Within a template, can you tell what the runtime output type is? Does the XML Publisher engine provide a way to obtain this value within a template?

and it still didn't work. The invoice number is alphanumeric an sometimes just contains numbers with leading zeroes which is what I'm testing with.

Can you tell me how to fix this issue for my Mozilla Firefox users? Our current version of Mozilla Firefox is: 24.5.0 (x86 en-US). This was first noticed with a product called Confluence that we use in our Tech Support area. Users are having to reenter their password every time they click on a new link in confluence. Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you are accessing your internal server on http:// or https:// then I would expect the normal rules to apply. To see whether some external requests are being blocked, you might try using Firefox's Web Console, Network tab.
You can open the console in the lower part of a tab using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+k
* "3-bar" menu button > Developer > Web Console
* (menu bar) Tools menu > Web Developer > Web Console
Click "Network" on the top bar of the Web Console.
Then use the address bar or a bookmark to launch Confluence in the same tab. Each request made by Firefox should be displayed along with the result. You can click a row for more details.

Do you possibly mean the contacts have been merged?
If so, where are each of you syncing contacts? A supported application on the computer? iCloud or another cloud service? An Exchange server?

Nobody can tell you anything without knowing exact site and server specs, but I would suspect that naming the folder "html" wasn't the brightest of ideas, since that's usually a default (invisible) folder name existing somewhere on the server and the user not having privileges to overwrite it.

How can you tell if a pic hasnt been tagged by iPhoto, and do you then do you then have to draw "missing box" around them
What I mean is tagged a few faces, imported some more pics, checked a few and they dont show as named faces, but are faces that are in my Faces source list (ie identified and named)
So do I then have to draw a box around known faces to me, and name them again (I think iPhoto will pop up as Im typing the names I already have)
It just means that even when i import and it doesnt name, I may have lots of pics that are of faces but not tagged and so not in my faces source list
