Can you temporarily disable PCI slots ?

I have two NVIDIA 7300's in my machine along with an HDMI video card called a Blackmagic Intensity. I suspect the Intensity card is conflicting with some FW audio interfaces I have and I'd like to disable it without physically pulling out the card.
Does anyone know if this is possible ?
Cheers

NO.
Unless you have 3 monitors, I would pull one Nvidia also. At least while troubleshooting but because you are likely using a "good" 8x slot for the 2nd.
I would think the 2nd Nvidia is more the issue, at least rule that out, before pulling Blackmagic (which might need driver or firmware updates, or not working with 10.4.9/.10 always possible). I assume that is why you are using 10.4.8 which came out last Sept/Oct and really is the minimum Mac Pro runs "okay" with.

  • Can you temporarily disable a song or playlist?

When I choose the Song Shuffle option on my iPod, it randomly choses a song to play and I really love it.
But, I also have alot of Christmas music on the iPod. So when I choose the "Song Shuffle" option, it scans through all of the music on the ipod--even the Christmas music.
Imagine being with your friends, crusing along listening to some really good jamming music and then all of the sudden an Elvis Christmas song comes on.
Not to say there is anything wrong with Elvis Christmas music. It just pops up every now and then with my other Christmas classics.
I want to keep all of my Christmas music, but I want to listen to them in December....not July.
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks.

To be more specific - create a playlist that has only your Christmas music on it, then create a Smart playlist that has everything you want from your playlist plus one more rule, where the playist is not your Christmas playlist. Play randomly from your new smart playlist and you will be good to go.
I have a playlist with some Christian music that I don't want to have on my normal playlist - at first, I tried to have two playlists (one with the Christian stuff and one with everything else), but this ended up being easier.

  • How can I temporarily disable dashboard client

I want to install an updated version of Adobe Flash.  i am being instructed to close Safari (no problem) and Dashboard Client.  How can I temporarily disable Dashboard Client so that I can install the update?  I am currently using MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8.2.

Use Terminal to disable the Dashboard. Go to Applications>Utilities>Terminal
Once you have the window open in Terminal copy & paste this command to disable it:
defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
Then, restart the Dock using the following command:
    killall Dock
If you want to enable your Dashboard again simply replaceYES with NO in the top command and repeat the process.

  • Can I temporarily disable a schedule?

    Hi,
I wish to temporarily disable a backup schedule. I do not want to remove the schedule or triggers associated with the schedule. I wish to handle the situation where a host being backed up is not available and I do not want the Admin server to complain when it comes round to backing it up.
    Is this possible in OSB?
    Thanks.

I know what you mean, but there isn't an active/inactive setting for the schedules. OSB does cue up the future jobs though, so if you do "obtool lsj" you''ll see the schedule with a state of "future work". You can then cancel that job (obtool canceljob) so it won't run that day. It will of course queue up the following day, but hopefully you've fixed client by then.
If it is going to be down for longer, then you can just take a copy of the schedule and then delete it. Then it is easy to put back. The schedule is in /usr/local/oracle/backup/admin/config/schedule.
Or you could just remove the dataset from the schedule, so the schedule will still fire but the dataset won't, so it won't actually do anything.

  • Can I temporarily disable a domain in Exchange?

A client has two separate companies each with a unique email domain. One has been moved to Exchange, the other is still on a GMail hosted domain while we prepare to cut them over. The company on GMail can send messages to the company on Exchange, but the
company on Exchange cannot send email to the company on GMail. I take it that, because of the domain conflict, the Exchange server attempts to send these messages to the unused Exchange accounts instead of their GMail accounts.
So my question is, is there a way we can temporarily disable the domain for the company that is using GMail until we are ready to change them over, so that emails sent to their domain will route externally to GMail instead of filling up the inboxes of unused
    accounts? Thanks for your help.

  • Can you completely disable data usage on iPhone?

I have an extra iPhone 4S that I got from a friend who's contract ended. My girlfriend has a very basic plan from AT&T (unlimited calling and texting). She can send picture messages also, but she doesn't have a data plan from what I understand. (I always thought MMS required data?) I was wondering if there was anyway I could completely disable data usage on the iPhone so there would be no charges. I know this limits the phone capabilities, but it would be an improvement to her current phone. Also would I have to register the phone in her name so she can use the phone with her SIM card or is it as easy as popping it in?
    Thank you!

Your problem is that AT&T does not permit iPhones, on their network, without an associated data plan. So, like it or not, you'll still have to pay for data. If you try to use the phone without a data plan, they will eventually catch you & bill you accordingly. All carriers call tell exactly what type of device is using their network.
In fact, I'm not aware of any carrier, in the US, that will permit an iPhone on their network without an associated data plan.

  • Can you manually disable the headphone jack on Macbook Pro?

I recently got the tip of a speaker plug stuck into the headphone jack of my 13' Macbook Pro. I tried various things and finally decided that I'd take it in to get repaired. I took it into a store called Jump+ which is an official apple retailer in my town (as we have no nearby apple stores). They attempted to take it out and succeeded at doing so except for a tiny piece of metal (copper) which is in the very tip of the headphone jack.
This causes me to not have sound or use of headphones.
I was thinking of trying the superglue trick however the technician made the piece so small that I won't be able to get enough surface for the adhesive to stick to. He also said that since the peice of metal is copper it won't come out with glue.
I was wondering if there was any terminal code, or any type of overide that is possible without having to replace the motherboard(?) that will disable the headphone jack so I can at least listen to the speakers on my Macbook. There is no chance of me removing this tiny peice of metal by the looks of it.
    Thank you very much.

AFAIK, you can't, it's a hardware switch, attached to the back of the headphone port.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:

  • How can I TEMPORARILY disable built-in microphone?

I like to record music from the web on my Touchsmart 310-1145UK (BTW this is 3 months old but HP don't recognise this model number so I can't contact customer support on-line!!!  It is a 20 inch screen all-in-one PC).
I use Audacity to record, this worked fine EXCEPT that it also recorded all the noise that the built-in microphone picked up.
I found a way of disabling it, but this turned out to be permanent and there was no way of getting it back apart from a system restore.
How can I stop the micrphone, or turn it down so it doesn't work, and then easily turn it back on again?

Here is a link to your notebook's support portal.  That is indeed a recognized HP product name. I searched the HP server for the link.
In the systray, right-click on the volume icon. Select Recording devices.  Right-click on the microphone icone and select  Disable and select OK To enable the microphone, just go back into the very same Windows that you disabled it in.
You can also access the sound Window by typing sound in the start search box. Select sound and then select the Recording tab.
    Best regards,

  • Can you Bulk "Disable" Pages in a Template?

    Hi there,
Just new to BC - I'm creating a site from a template, which by defalut has about 30 pages "Enabled"... is there a way to "bulk enable" or bulk "disable" pages from within a template in BC?
I only want to use say 4 of the 30 odd pages in a template, do i have to manually go through each page to "Disable" the ones that I don't want to show?
There are check boxes to the left of the page titles, indicating that this type of thing "could" occur (ala wordpress)
    Am I missing something?
    Cheers
    Dave

Thanks for the speedy reply Liam
Reason for disabling and or deleting so many pages is i have used a template that has come with 60 odd pages.. we only need 5 or 6
To make it easy for end user to see only actual pages he needs to edit i want to delete or hide the unwanted ones.
This is a standard feature amongst all the leading open source CMS's so am a little surprised why you would be asking.
I am probably missing something obvious as I am new to BC so i stand open to correction.
Is this a feature really being considered by BC?   It was supposed to be near in 2012
    cheers

  • Can you permanently disable a device?

I am a police officer and embarrassed to say that after leaving my iTouch in the patrol car a couple years ago it was taken by another employee and never returned.  Recently, I received a couple Email requests to obtain or change my password.  I logged on to change all of my information for security but would like to know if I can get the device permanently shut down and made useless?  I do not know the serial number.

Remotely erasing it is only possible if you had enabled "Find my iPod" in Settings > iCloud when it was still in your posession.
There is nothing you can do about the repeated requests to obtain or change your Apple ID password, but the good news is that updating apps or doing anything else that requires your Apple ID will be impossible. Eventually the thief will grow tired of that and restore it as a new device, thereby erasing it completely.
Its serial number is not useful other than to establish ownership. Did you ever sync it with iTunes? If you did you can use this technique to determine its serial number:
Open iTunes on the computer you used to sync the iPod and select Preferences…from the iTunes menu. (In Windows, choose Edit > Preferences.)
Select the Devices pane. Position the cursor over any of its backups. The iPod's serial number will appear in a popup window.
For a screenshot read: iOS: How to find the serial number, IMEI, MEID, CDN, and ICCID number

  • How can you  automatically disable data on a phone when the user hits the limit?

One Verizon phone rep said she would take care of it for me.  Obviously that didn't happen so Verizon robbed me of $50 in overage fees.
Next Verizon store rep told me to go online and do it.  Still haven't figured it out.  So, anyone know the answer?
Not Thrilled at all with the amount of time I've spent trying to get this accomplished.

That gets trickier, you can install apps to monitor but stopping usage may require FamilyBase from Verizon at an additional monthly cost.

  • How do you temporarily disable a page in InDesign without deleting it completely from the document?

I ask this because I need to create pages that will be relevant at a later time, but I don't want to have to remember the page range everytime I export a pdf because the order of my document is changing constantly. Is ther a way to tag pages as disabled and then reactivate at a later time? Thanks for any help.

Perhaps you should be doing separate documents, and combining them into a Book (.indb). Add or remove the docs and update the book as required.
