Can you toggle Extended Desktop?

Hey this is my first post here on the board,
my problem has to do with multiple displays. I currently have my LCD TV connected via the mini-DVI to my mac. The extended desktop works great. The only problem is that I don't always want to extend my desktop to the TV screen, I only want to do so when I watch a movie etc. It gets irritating when the TV is turned off and something is on the other screen.
So my question is: Is there some way of turning output to the second monitor on/off? The effect I am looking for is essentially the same as if I pulled the mini-DVI cable out of my iMac. (The main screen would remain and the other would go black, restricting the cursor to the main display).
AppleScript snippets, Automator stuff, Widgets anything!
I hope you can help me out.

there is no option to do that. you'll just have to unplug the external monitor when you don't want to use it.

No, you can't share the desktop.
AppleTv does not mirror video content it actually decodes compatible media streams pushed/pulled to it or accessed via the internet.
Check the AppleTV specs/write up.

Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version w/o re-creating the pages?

Can you convert your desktop site plan into the phone & tablet version without re-creating the landing pages? This seems too extensive to have to re-design each page?

On your nav bar there is a shorcut to other pages.
The most effecient way I have found to do this from the phone layout,
click on the page icon shown above
type in the name of the page (and select the desktop version as indicated by the icon of the monitor)
select all on that page (CTRL A / Command A) and copy (CTRL C / Command C)
revert back to the phone layout page and paste (CTRL V / Command V)
then resize, delete what you dont need, make any other edits and your done!
There is not a way to copy a page entirely over. The mobile version should have less information and less imagery to enable fast load times.

Keeping stalonetray on top when you toggle show desktop

I'm sure it's easy, but I can't seem to get my stalonetray to stay visible (it toggles off with the rest of the windows) when I hit W-d to toggle show desktop (LXDE/openbox).
Here's my .staylonetrayrc:

How can you disable "set desktop picture" from the finder contextual menu

I teach high school. And MUST find a way to keep my students from changing their desktops.
First I basically got rid of Firefox when it had that feature in the Tiger days.
Then for Leopard I had to create dummy "locked" Safari Desktop Picture files for all my user accounts so the kids couldn't use Safari to set their desktop pictures.
NOW I discover (maybe this was here before) Snow Leopard lets you change the desktop right from the Finder itself! Just right click on any image file and the contextual menu will give them the option to "set desktop picture".
Come on Apple, every educator I know has complained about what a distraction and constant battle images are for students who use computers. While not all students are inappropriate, quite a few are...meaning no one can be allowed the privilege. Why is this such a huge battle to try and lock down? Please allow Parental Controls or Server managed preferences to keep our students from being able to change their desktop pictures, ever, at all, from anywhere or any program.
Does anyone know if this is even possible?

The only way (I have found) to shut down using Safari's "Use Image as a Desktop Picture" feature is to create a bunch of blank documents that the users have no permission to change (i.e. set permission to only allow, say YOU to read it and no access to write to it for anyone)
Create a number of these blank documents and rename them

(you get the point....come up with as many .3 extensions of photo files that you can think of)
Put these locked and unchangeable files into the following directory of each of your student accounts
Macintosh HD/Users/~User Name/Library/Safari/
What this does is create a bunch of dummy files that will "block" Safari (or the system or user) from trying to replace them. Even though the right click comman will still be there, Safari will not be able to put the picture in the correct part of the system for it to be used as a Desktop Picture.

How can you toggle H264 on and off in a NetStream?

Hello. Let's say you have the following code that switches your stream to use H264:

Let's say you want the user to be able to keep clicking a button that will switch the stream back and forth between this and its default, non-H264 settings. How can you do this? I don't want to recreate the NetStream or have multiple NetStreams or anything else really sloppy like that. I tried looking up the videoStreamSettings property in the main docoumentation for a NetStream (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/net/NetStream.htm l), but they don't even formally list it for some reason. HT201343 can you mirror say desktop 2 and still use your mac on desktop 1 with the movie playing on the tv?

I'm interested in Apple TV for the mirroring feature through AirPlay, but will only purchase if I can still use my mac as normal whilst i'm watching what is being mirrored on the tv. Is this possible in any way? like possibly having the movie playing on desktop 2 and mirroring that and still use the mac with the other desktops to browse the internet etc?

No, AirParrot isn't a solution for dexta,
AirParrot gives mirroring function to older computer that are unsupported by the Apple's mirrorring function. Dexta is looking to extend is display which isn't a feature of AirParrot.
AppleTV will only gives you direct access to some web content using the builtin features like YouTube, Netflix, etc. If you are looking for unsupported access to other website without using mirroring, then the AppleTV isn't the best hardware to answer your need.

Can not set extended desktop on Satellite M65-S809

On my previous Satellites I always extended my desktop to another display without a problem, but my M65-S809 refuses. After I set up the display properties and click "Apply", the second monitor greys out and becomes "dis-attached".
I have tried to delete the PnP displays in Device Manager, I've tried another M65-S809 notebook.
Operating system is Windows XP 2002 SP2. Display is Default Monitor on Intel 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family.Express

This feature is supported for this machine?
I think I will buy that machine next monday, and i need a second monitor with 1024 x 768 to run other application on that monitor.
i need an lcd screen on the notebook with 1440 x 900 and on the second display 1024 x 768 to run other application.
Is this possible?

How can you lock the desktop icon size?

On my Macbook Pro (10/6.7) the icons on the desktop sometimes change size. I'm not doing anything deliberate to cause this. When the icons change size, I can use View Options to make them the right size again, but it's a pain to have to keep doing that, especially since some icons don't always return to their original positions on the desktop. Is there any to prevent the desktop icons from changing size?

They shrink when you're on the desktop and "pinch" two fingers on the trackpad closer together. If you "spread" two fingers apart, they'll get bigger.
You can disable in System Preferences > trackpad > Two Fingers > uncheck Pinch Open & Close.

Can you toggle open/close javascript:ColdFusion.navigate?

I'm looking for a way to toggle open/close a table row within a search query. I have a table of results and a link to more detailed information. I would like that page to stay within the current page. I have the ColdFusion.navigate working correctly but wondering if there is a way to close it?

It is still unclear what you wish to toggle with what. There are a number of processes going on underneath: the open window, its original content, the content - within the window - coming from detail.cfm, and the closed window. It may be impossible to toggle between them.
ColdFusion.navigate() does not create the window. Neither can it open a window. It simply copies output from the page detail.cfm into the already opened window.
You would therefore need, besides ColdFusion.navigate(), two further events. One to open or re-open the window and one to close it. That makes a total of at least 3 events.
Here is an example toggling a shown and a hidden window:

Can you sync Palm Desktop addresses to Address book?

I stopped using my Palm pilot long ago, but i still use the Palm Desktop application for the contacts and addresses. Is there a way to sync these addresses from Palm Desktop to Mac Address Book?

No, not explicitly.
You can typically export Palm contact data from the Palm Desktop as a vCard file and import it into the Address Book, and you can export Palm event data as a vCal file for import into iCal.
Palm task data cannot be exported into a form suitable for import into iCal, and there is no freestanding application into which you can import Palm memos.

You want save a photo you have in Aperture as a desktop photo? If so it would be like adding any other picture as a desktop picture.
System Preferences-Desktop & Screen Saver-Desktop tab- then on the left side navigate to your Aperture library and locate the picture you want.

In DVD studio pro can you "toggle" subtitles ON/OFF so it shows on screen?

I have DVD Studio Pro 4.
I have an "extras" menu where I offer three subtitle options:
English
Spanish
French
Can I show the user when he comes into that menu the current state of the subtitles. Eg:
English ON
Spanish OFF
French OFF

I'm by no means a scripting expert in dvdsp, but I'm pretty sure you could create multiple menus each one reflecting which subtitle state is active. You need to create a script that navigates to the correct menu depending on which subtitle state is active. Scripting can seem daunting, but it's not as complicated as it initally seems. The manual is a great resource.
