Can you turn power off of the USB ports

I have a powerbook g4 800 and it has an external fan that is powered by USB. When I put the computer to sleep and have the power adapter not plugged in, the fan still gets power. So I occasionally have the power completely drained after the laptop was in sleep. Usually I remember to shut off the fan, but it's an extra step that seems like it could be solved by setting something somewhere to power down USB on sleep.

Unfortunately the Mac holds the USB ports in an active state to allow mice and keyboards to wake the machine - I don't know of any way to change this.

  • Can you turn on/off aliases wih iCloud

With iCloud can you turn on/off email aliases you have created in .mac and mobileme?
If you can't, can you delete the aliases in iCloud that you cannnot now delete in mobileme?

You can handle aliases in exactly the same way as on MobileMe except that you are allowed only three (though if when you migrate you have four or five you won't lose any of them).

  • Can you safely power off a Airport 5th generation and attached disk drive without risking data getting lost??

Can you safely power off a 5th generation AirPort and an attached disk drive without losing data?

I'd like to just be able to shut it down by tripping off the power strip the disk and airport are attached to with my toe so they're not sucking down power at night or when I'm at work.     I wouldn't mind a sequence of power down the computers on the net first and then 'toeing off' the AirPort+disk.
I'm just wondering how quickly between the time that I power off the mac that the airport would flush all of its buffers.

  • Can you sync an iPod through the USB on AEBS

i want to know if you can sync an ipod wirelessly from the usb port on an airport extreme base station. i want to be able to sync my ipod, wirelessly from my macbook. If it does, theres £120 on its way to apple..

Well sorry to be blunt again, no you can't.
    There are no self-made solutions.
The reasons you can't are relatively simple, the AEBS is acting as a print server and the iPod requires to be connected to a USB port connected to a computer not a print server.
You may want to investigate the Keyspan USB Server.

  • Power Surge on the USB Port.

Well, for the first time ever in my 2 years of having this IPOD plug for my 5th Gen...I wanted to upload some pics on my ipod, but i plugged the port into the computer and the other part into my ipod, and it said my port had a power surge of some sort. So i can't charge my ipod via computer, but it works in my ipod player (which is my deck that i have in my bedroom to play music through speakers) and it works...And other USB items (i.e webcam) work in any port...So its seems its just the plug.
It all of a sudden worked when i just plugged it in as i wrote this to be sure what it said, but does anyone know why this happened?

When you say "port" do you mean the iPod cable that has a dock connector on one end and a USB connector on the other end? When you have your iPod connected to your iPod player does the player have a dock connector on it such that the iPod plugs directly into the player? If the answer to both of these questions is yes then I would suspect that the iPod cable is bad or on its way out. Another test of the cable would be to connect it to an iPod power adapter that plugs into the wall and see if the iPod charges.
The other possibility is that there are other USB devices connected to your computer and when the iPod is connected the USB ports on the computer are unable to supply sufficient power to all of those devices.

  • The device was drawing too much power and that the USB port will be shut down

    New to forum, help,
Cannot add a USB hub, powered or not, keep getting message
The device was drawing too much power and the USB port will shut down.

    Hi
Is your machine connected to AC power? If not, connect it, and it should work. You may also try resetting the SMC.
If it still doesn't work when connected to AC, then the hub most likely is drawing too much power (i.e you have too many devices connected to it)

  • Can't synchronize my IPod with the USB-Port of my 27 Inch Cinema Display

I use a 27" Cinema Display with my Windows PC.
It is connected via USB and Display Port.
Synchronizing my IPod at the USB Port of the PC works fine.
Synchronizing my IPod at each of the three USB Ports of the Cinema Display doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks Stephan

Sorry if there is any missing information. I'll try to put all requested information:
The car system is the one that is already installed in my car, I mean it is not something bought externally and installed in my car. The car is a ford S-Max. This car has a complete radio system that includes a USB connection for mp3 players. It works ok but not with the iPod. The IOS installed is the last that has been released, but the iPod was not working with this connection before that update.

  • Can you turn isight off?

i have the built in isight on my macbook, and am trying to import digital video into imovie, but when i click the button to connect to the camera, it just turns on isight and asks me if i want to record with isight.
is there a way to turn isight off? i havnt found a control panel for the camera.

    Hello djbolt,
    Seems simple enough:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302503
"To turn off the built-in iSight camera, just close the active iChat window. The green LED next to the camera will go dark, indicating that the built-in iSight camera is off and no longer capturing video."
Not having a built-in iSight, I couldn't test this out, but I suspect you all have tried that and after repairing permissions, etc, are probably still going to tell me that you can't mount another DV camcorder?
Let me know or maybe someone else will be by with a better suggestion.
    Respectfully,
    Bill Gallagher

  • My i phone is buzzing and I can not turn it off. The screen is blank

My I phone is buzzing. The screen is blank . I can not turn it off

Try resetting it: hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release.  If it won't reset just let it discharge and stop on its own, the recharge it and see if it works again.

  • Mac Mail Conversations - Can you turn it off for a Specific Email address?

In Mac Mail 6.2, is there a way to leave "Conversations" ON as a default, but turn it off in regards to a certain email address?
    Example:
I resell printing and have multiple receipts coming from one supplier(One Email address and the same Subject Line). My problem is it is grouping those receipts into the same conversation, but each of these should be seperate because they are for more than one customer.
Any help would be great. Thanks

Not exactly, but the following workaround might be useful to you:
    * Create a new mail folder (either in an IMAP account or in "On My Mac").
    * Set that set conversations off for that mail folder.
    * Create a mail rule to move messages from your problem supplier to that folder.
Downside: You have to remember to check that other folder.
If it is important to you that the messages be available in the unified Inbox, you might be able to do something similar with a separate mail account.

  • Can you turn Faces off for specific Projects?

I do photography just for myself normally, and for my pictures I like to use Faces. However, I've also done some photography for groups. I don't want Faces to try and tag these people, because I don't even know them! Is there a way to turn Faces off for certain projects, but not turn it off totally?

I have a similer thing since I use aperture for my work and for personal things. I use seperate libraries. Create a seperate library from the file menue. (File->switch library->other/new) make one for work (no faces) and one for personal (faces enabled) It's not as simple as setting it on or off for each project but it does work for me.

  • Power off a specific usb port

Hello guys I'm trying to power off one usb port of my laptop. So far, I only managed to power off one  of them through this command:
    #off:
    echo "1-1" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind
    #on:
    echo "1-1" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/bind
The problem is that I can't get the other usb to power off. I also tried with this command
    echo suspend > /sys/bus/usb/devices/1-1/power/level
bash: echo: write error: Invalid argument
as you see unfortunately I get an error..
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Does it have the same file structure? Have you tried powering off a USB port, that has, say, a mouse plugged in or a keyboard?
