Can you turn your broadband off ?

Can you turn your broadband off at night or say when you going out, when you turn it back do you receive the same speed,I'm sure I've had this conversation before and I think you can turn it off .Do any of you turn yours off and does it affect your speed I'm pretty sure it's fine to do just want to be sure.

turning the hub of once a day should cause no problem but multiple restarts in day will cause you connection and speed problems i would not recommend turning it on and off they are designed to run 24/7

  • Do you turn your iphone off every day?

I've recently told two friends to turn their phones off for a period of time if the phones are not functioning properly.  Has anyone else ever heard this?  I thought this was common knowledge!

and you recommend this because turning it off may fix whatever is not functioning?
I recommend a reset instead of a simple power off.
Press and hold both Home & Power untill your see the Apple logo (ignore red power off slider).
No idea when I last turned off my iPhone.

Is an appointment required to drop your phone off at the genius bar?  My son dropped his phone and it will not work.  I'd like to have a diagnostics run to see about the possibility of repairing it.

Yes, it is required in advance. Please make a Genius Appointment.

  • Can you turn the data off?

Im planning on buying an iPhone. I dont want to get a data plan. Is there a way to make the iPhone only transfer data via wi-fi and not any of my cell phones networks?

In Canada, Fido will let existing customers buy an iPhone without a data plan if you choose to pay for data as you use it (a pay as you go data option) as long as your existing voice plan is at least $20 a month. While the friendly Fido guy said this is acceptable, he did caution that the iPhone constantly uses data (EDGE/3G/WiFi...whatever is available) to do all sorts of things in the background including synchronizing the clock and using numerous apps. So basically he said while it's possible to get an iPhone without a data plan he would strongly not advise it as data usage costs would be ridiculously expensive.
To my knowledge you can't shutoff cell phone data usage from the iPhone (besides turning off 3G or intl roaming) but would instead have to call Fido or Rogers and put a data block on your account. I'm not sure whether they would allow that on an iPhone plan though, but it never hurts to ask.

  • Can you turn the converter off?

Is there a way to turn off the converter so it will stop turning my nef files into dgn files? I have a Nikon D610 and Lightroom 5.4
    Thank you!

Not sure I fully understand the problem, but my guess is that you have somehow set the import dialog to convert your NEFs to DNG during import. If this is the case then simply switch it to 'Copy'.

  • Can you get your data off of a broken iPhone 3gs?

I dropped my iPhone 3gs and it broke apart. Took it to someone to fix it and it broke even worse. I was going to sell it to a company that would repair it and sell it. Before I do that I want to get all of my data off it...is there a way I can do this or am I just screwed?

No, but unless the company you're selling it to has forensic methods of extracting the data, it's unlikely they can get at it either.  When they're done fixing it, there will be new parts and the phone will be wiped of data.
If there is really sensitive data on the phone, and you're worried - best to take a sledge hammer to it, and call it a loss...

  • Can you turn transaction handling off?

Is it possible to turn transactions off in Oracle, such that any changes get written to the database immediately and permanently and the multi-version consistency model is not used?
I know there are many good reasons for not doing this but I've been asked to find out whether it's possible.
    TVM.
    null

Then take the case off. If it works properly without the case, return the case and get your money back. Buy something else.

  • Do you turn your computer off?

Hi, I have had my Mac G4 Tower for about 6 or 7 years now. I leave it running 24/7 365 days a year with an exception at Christmas when I turn it off when I go away for about 3 days.
Is this normal for most of you? I've heard it is harder on the computer components to be constantly turn the computer on and off day after day. What do you think?
Is it better to turn off a computer daily or leave it on constantly?
    Thanks

    Hi-
Some think 24/7 is fine. If it's a server, I agree. If not a server, I don't think daily shutdowns are necessary, but at least sleep it. That's what the function is for. Avoids all the reboot protocols, but allows the machine to rest, cool down, and, most of all, save energy.
Also, I've seen/heard too many times the story of the machine that was left on, only to succumb to power surges, electrical storms, or suffer a panic while unattended, and shut off, leaving the owner wondering what happened.....
I've been sleeping this Sawtooth several times a day since 1999. Not a single component failure in that time.
Funny thing about electrical components. They are all pretty much rated for time (hours) of service. Especially with hard drives, the time on while you are sleeping, is less time for you to use when you're awake.
Others will be by to say different, but, that's my take on the matter.

  • How can you turn the screen off without access to the power button and without using auto-lock?

We are using iPads that are locked down with Guided Access and secured within hard plastic mounts screwed down onto a countertop.  We can press the home button with a paperclip, but that's it.  We don't want to use auto-lock because there might be several hours where the terminals aren't used, but we don't want them to go to sleep during business hours, otherwise we'll have to grab a paper clip and turn them back on.  Also, if we set the auto-lock to several hours, then the iPads wouldn't be off for very long at night.  I want to turn them off when we close at night, but it's challenging to open the cases and lift the iPads out, so that's not a reasonable option.
    Any thoughts?

    Look for a new case.
There is varying opinions where it is best to power down electronics overnight or leave them on all the time to lengthen the life of a device.
I power down to save electricity at night.

  • HT5409 Can you turn this function off? I am having issues linking offline media(MTS files) in Adobe Premiere CS6

New imac with 10.8.4.  With the new avchd coverter, I am not able to link offline MTS files in Adobe Premiere CS6.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe hasn't updated it's products to look inside the avchd packages.
You'll have to do it for them.
Right-Click on the avchd package (or whatever it is called). Choose Show Package Contents.
Keep digging into the internal packages in a similar way until you get to the folder with the mts files.
When you tell Adobe to open a file, just drag the mts file into the Open File dialog. If it cannot maintain that link, you might have to move the files to some other location Adobe can process.

  • Can't turn my iPod OFF!

For the last week or so my iPod won't turn off, which is a bit of a twist on the regular "I can't turn my iPod on" posts.
Until now it would turn itself off after about five minutes unused, or I could turn it off by holding down play/pause, but now it just stays on 24/7 whether it's playing or not.
This is a bit of a pain as I need to make sure it's plugged in overnight or the battery gets run down.
    Any ideas?
Oh, and yes I have checked the "hold" switch isn't on.

I just tried the enter button and play button together - that turned it off, but as soon as I let go of the buttons it comes back on again!!
On the third or fourth attempt it turned off and stayed off so maybe I'll just have to think of it as an extra game - test your skill, can you turn the iPod off in less than three goes!

  • Can Apple make an app or an update that makes you insert your password to turn your phone off? This can help deal with theft of iPhones because people take or find a iPhone, the first thing they do is turn the phone off.

They probably can do such s thing if they choose to do so.
Let them know that you would like this:

Not sure this is a very useful thing.  It would run down the battery.  All a thief has to do is remove them SIM and restore the iphone to stop it from being tracked.
