Can you update from a mac os 10.4.11 to 10.5.8

I have an older macbook pro using 10.4.11, just bought a printer that requires 10.5.8. Can I update my mac, or should I return the printer?

Yes, you can; if you don't have a retail Mac OS X 10.5 DVD lying around, click here.

  • Can you update from ios 6 to ios 8

I am thinking of buying an ipod touch from John Lewis retailing at £139 running ios 6 once I purchase the ipod can I then update the software to ios 8 by system update or will I have to by a newer one

Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • HT1338 Can you update from OS X v10.5.8 to newer OS X versions? How?

I have an iMac model 7.1 Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHz, 2 MB memory machine (purchased end 2009). What's the best OS X version to run on this machine and how do I start the upgrade process?

You have to get 10.6.8 first to go even higher to 10.7 or 10.8
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

I'ts been pulled from the online store, so you have to call Apple to buy it.

  • Can you update from an iOS 5 to iOS 7?

Hi can an ipad 1 iOS 5 be updated to iOS 7?

If you have an iPad 1, it cannot be updated beyond 5.1.  The hardware won't accept the newer versions.

  • Can you update from an external hard drive?

My computer's hard drive is too small to hold the amount of music I need, but it's inconvenient and overpriced to buy a replacement internal hard drive, so I thought I'd buy an external one. But before I did, I just wanted to make sure you could properly update your iPod with music all on the external hard drive. Thanks.

    Susan,
You might want to have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base when you're set to move your music to the external drive:

  • My Air won't do anything, I can't move the mouse and the keys won't respond. It came after an OS update from the Mac Appstore. HELP!

After an OS update, from the Mac Appstore my Air won't do anything.
I updated OSX from the appstore, and I restarted my laptop. Now I'm in the choose profile screen and nothing happends. At all. I can't move the mouse, the keys aren't responding etc.

You should also ask this in the MacBook Air forum. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

My iPhone has just been replaced and I am trying to restore from iCloud but its saying no backups are compatible with the version of IOS 6.0.1. My back iOS are IOS 6.1. Can you update the phone first then restore?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes, update first, Settings > General > Software Update.
Then navigate to Settings > General > Reset > Erase all contents and settings on the device you want to restore.
When this completes and the Set-Up Assistant starts, choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" and enter your iCloud account and password. You will see the three most recent backups for each of the devices on which you enabled Backup. Choose which backup to restore from.

  • Can you update an iOs app and change its platform offering from iPad/iPhone to just iPad?

When building a new app with Adobe DPS to update an existing app, can you update an iOs app and change its platform offering from iPad/iPhone to just iPad?

Vinod is correct in that you can build a new app that's iPad-only, but if you try to submit it as an update to the existing app, Neil is correct--Apple will reject it because it's considered a downgrade. You either need to stick to the universal app and do something like create a single iPhone folio that refers users to the iPad, or you need to submit it as a new app.

  • HT5654 Can you update or upgrade from a 2cd gen to a 3 or 4 gen? If so how?

Can you update or upgrade a 2cd gen ipod touch to a 3rd or 4th gen? If so how?

Sell it and put the money towards a newer model. If it's in working order, you're far better off selling it to someone other than Apple than using Apple's recycling program.

  • Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600

Can't print from Intel Mac w/Snow Leopard to HP 2600.  Upgraded from OS 10.4 and printer showed on printer list along with an Epson scanner. but continually shows printer as offline.  I finally deleted the HP Color Laserjet 2600n from the printer list.  When I attempted to re-install it, it doesn't find the printer at all.  I haven't attempted to use the scanner.  I also went to HP and downloaded the driver, no luck.  I've restarted the computer multiple times, tried it with the printer on, and printer off, as well as pulled the usb cable in and out both ends.  No error message on the printer display and it gpes through normal warmup until it shows the green light.  I run software update and it shows no updates needed.  Help!

When you press print the first window is pretty basic.
When you select print on that the next window should have an advanced option.
Click that and see if any of the options in the 3rd dropdown box allow you to specify the 'paper tray'.
    AC "
In this new windaow, click "advanced", go to "paper type/quality" and choose " best" and a photo paper. Then you will be able to choose a paper source (photo tray).
Once you have these settings, under presets do "save as", and you can choose the preset instead of going to advanced.
If you have the latest software and drivers downloaded from HP, this will work.
