Can you upgrade the processor in a Presario CQ62-210us

I just bought a compaq presario cq62-210us, and I didn't realize that it had a single core celeron 900 processor, so what I was wondering is if it is possible to upgrade to a dual core processor.
I know that it is hard to upgrade the processor on laptops, but is there a specific chip that would fit in this model? If not, then is there a simuilar model that has the same internal  configuration, that I could just switch the processor with the model I currently have?
Thank you.

  • Can You Upgrade the Processor in a Lenovo B570 Laptop?

I've gotten all sorts of mixed answers, so I'm going to ask directly here at Lenovo: Can I upgrade my B570 from a Pentium B950 2.10GHz Dual core? And if so, what processors are compatible with my motherboard?

I did it! I didn't think it was possible! I sucessfully upgraded my B570 from an intel core i3 2350m to a core i7 2720m. Even though one is 35 watt and the other is 45 watt, it still worked. The i7 is running hotter but nothing horribly bad.  50C to near 70 C.  I followed a take apart youtube video. It's sort of complex because the CPU is on the upper side of the motherboard. I only had 1 screw left over!! YAY!  Everything appears to be working fine. My WIFI wasn't working at first but I went back in and reset the bios to default settings and reset comptuer and bam now it's working.  The speed increase wasn't at all what I had expected.  I just upgraded my ram from 4 GB to 8 GB a few days back and that actually provided the biggest speed boost of all.
So it CAN be DONE as long as you get a core i3, i5, i7 series that starts with a 2*** (sandy bridge). I also used the long parts manual provided by lenovo in order to find a chip compatable with my b570 system. They list a number of chips. I bought the next to the most fastest they had listed because the price ot the BEST one just wasn't worth the cost.
    AGAIN...it does WORK!

You could upgrade but since your in the same family processor your not gong to get any gains with the upgrade. Stick with your current processor.

  • Can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

can you upgrade the Apple MacBook MB466LL/A to 8gb ram

Apple only tests the MacBook with the RAM that's affordable at the time of manufacture. At that time 4gb RAM sticks ran about $400 each. Once they've tested them they never go back as the RAM drops in price since they're on to the next model by then.
So (Apple) means what they first tested the MacBook at. (Actual) means how much RAM the MacBook is capable of handling.

    Hi,
Upgrading graphics chips on laptops is very difficult and mostly impossible because the chips are soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade the graphics chip by replacing the motherboard with a compatible one which has a more powerful graphics chip. In your case it is a mobo with an Nvidia GF GT650M with 2GB of DDR5 RAM. However, the motherboard costs approx $600. The part number you need is:  682040-001.
It looks like M7series laptops are compatible with Dv7-6000 series laptops. See a service manual:

    HP Touchpad provided by HP
    Currently on Debian Wheeze

  • HT1531 Can you change the processor from PowerPC to Intel?

Can you change the processor from PowerPC to Intel?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
It's not possible. Intel-based Macs use completely different logic boards than PowerPC-based Macs because chips are different (Intel-based Macs use EFI instead of Open Firmware, or PRAM instead of NVRAM), so if you want a Intel processor on your computer, you need a new iMac

No. You can sell it or Apple will give you a recycling fee.

  • Power PC G5 - can I upgrade the processor?

    Hello,
I have had my G5 since 2004, I love it. I have only ever had to upgrade the memory in the years I have had it. However, now that the processor is no longer used I can not upgrade the OS any further and many new programs both Apple and other will not work with my computer. So... I face a dilemma, I see no reason to get rid of a perfectly working computer. I would like to see if it is possible to just upgrade some parts. If so do I need to go to the Apple store, or can I find a savvy computer guy to just fix my compie up?
    Thank you!

Hi kpdub, and a warm welcome to the forums!
You can't upgrade the CPU, but you can upgrade the OS to 10.5.8.
    Leopard requirements/10.5.x...
    * Mac computer with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (867MHz or faster) processor
    minimum system requirements
    * 512MB of memory (I say 2GB at least)
    * DVD drive for installation
    * 9GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
You have to call Apple &likely ask for a Product Specialist to get it, if they still have it!

  • Can you upgrade the graphics on a macbook?

I am wondering if you can upgrade the graphics card on a macbook. I've looked in the online apple store but all of the graphic cards are for mac pros or macs with G3-5 processors.
Do the current graphics on a macbook prevent you from playing games on windows when running bootcamp? I mostly play command and conquer, not a graphically demanding game. thanks.

NO, you can't upgrade the graphics card. If it's not that demanding then it would most likely be fine.

  • Can I upgrade the processor?

Hi everyone!  I got in a bind a while back and had to get a PC fast. What I ended getting was HP Pavilion 23-g011 All-in-One. When I got it I thought it was okay, but as i started to work I realized its limits. I guess it has a 1.3ghz processor, which seems to be the only real issue with it, as far as i can tell. My question is, can I upgrade this processor? I've heard different things. Some say yes, others say no.  I really don't know much about this stuff, but I'm hoping someone can help me out here. Thanks!

I am sorry, but apparently the proccessor is soldered to the motherboard of the computer, so you can't upgrade it. All-in-one computers aren't designed for being upgrades (i have a pavilion 20 b010 with a 1.48GHz proccessor) and I wouldn't really have a problem with the "no upgrade" thing if the proccessors weren't so terrible! I feel you, I do alot of gaming and have to run them at like 5 fps. So to summarize it all up, you cant upgrade it.

  • Can you upgrade the wifi card and if you can how much will it cost

hi i just got a macbook not the pro its the white one and i find it has  a hard time grabbing my wifi and i know its the wifi card because i have 2 iphones and ipod touch and 2 laptops not including my macbook and all of them have no trouble holding the wifi connection so if anyone can help me out i just want to know can i upgrade the wifi card and if i can how much will it cost
ps i cant do any of take it apart my self and install it i just wan to know how much it will cost going through apple
    thanks

Why do people think they are postiing in a notebook forum when if you look around, this is clearly something else.
If you really want a new Mac you have to buy one. That is part of the fun of owning laptops, they are not upgradeable.

  • Can you upgrade PowerPC processor to an Intel Processor in iBook G4?

I was wondering whether you could upgrade the processor in an iBook G4 to an Intel processor as I need an Intel processor to sync my iPhone 4 to iTunes and update adobe flash player and I dont want to upgrade to a more newer MacBook as I do not have the money at the moment and if you could update the processor to an Intel processor where could I get it done?
    I have an iBook G4
Running Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Tiger)
    12 inch
    With a PowerPC processor

    No such upgrades are possible.
On portable machines, generally the processor (which is the part that makes it PPC or Intel) is part of the logic board and these boards are very expensive. Even if they were available, the cost would be too high to justify and the rest of the hardware would be too old to keep up with the new board - so you'd be looking at a lot more money to get this machine up to spec (if it were an option).
Time to consider buying a new machine

  • Can I upgrade the processor on my laptop? If so, what processors are compatible for my system?

I have an HP Pavillion dv6-2150us, which runs an Intel Core i3 @ 2.13 GHz, 8 GB RAM and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.  Can I upgrade this processor and if so, what processors are compatible to this system?

First think about memory and an SSD drive. Laptop processor upgrades are a big hassle and not cheap.

  • Can you upgrade the RAM on a Retina Display Macbook Pro?

So I've been looking around for information on whether the RAM on a Retina Macbook Pro can be upgraded and the mixed messages have left me confused. If I take my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) to an Apple store for a RAM upgrade and offer to pay them for the RAM and installation, would they do it for me?
Thanks and if you can't, please explain why.
I am aware that the RAM is soldered into the motherboard making it very difficult to perform the upgrade, but will some stores actually do it for you?

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is soldered onto the logic board, so RAM can't be added without replacing the logic board.
I know there are shops that may try to add more RAM without replacing the logic board, but they aren't official resellers and if something happens, the warranty will be voided. Apple won't do it.
If you want, you can sell your MacBook Pro and get another one with more RAM. It's the best way to do it, because I don't think you want to spend a lot of money replacing the logic board or you want to take it to a non-official technical support, putting the Mac in risk

  • How can you upgrade the Oracle's db java version?

Hi - Is there away to upgrade the database's java version? We are on UNIX with Oracle 8.1.6. I would like to upgrade it to Java 1.4, if possible. As far as I know, we do not currently use java for anything. We like to use java stored procedures.
    Thanks

Is it possible (and if so, how) to determine the version of Java used to compile a class file?
I've recently had to install both JDK 1.5 and JDK 1.4 on my system, and although I've got my paths set, etc.
I'd like to check my class files after compiling so I can rest assured that they were compiled with the appropriate version.
    Can this be done? How?
Thanks. The answer is yes and no. You can check the VM compability/compliance version of the compiled class. But e.g a JDK 1.5 compiler can compile classes that are compatible with a 1.4 VM (but that doesn't mean that it is guaranteed to execute on that VM without any errors)
