Can you use ichat with facetime

I have an iphone4 and would like to be able to call home using facetime to chat with my kids. But we do not have 2 iphones. Any ideas?

Hi,
Face Time uses Phone Numbers or Apple IDs registered with Face Time to make contact
iChat uses AIM Names (Those valid with AIM) or Jabber name  (including GoogleMail IDs) to make contact (Basically Names registered with Certain IM servers)
iChat cannot contact the Face Time servers so  Face Time names cannot be added to any iChat Buddy List.
NOTES.
A MobileMe  name ending in @me.com has several  functions:-
Obviously it is a working e-mail.
It is an Apple ID (iTunes, Logging in to Communities (once you set up an Alias), On Line Store, MacApp store and Face Time (if Linked)
It is a valid AIM Screen Name (If the password is 16 characters or less).
@Mac.com names have similar Functions less the e-mail part.
Other Apple IDs created from using an external to Apple e-mail address are not Valid AIM Names. Well at least not by just being Apple IDs  (you can link an E-mail to a AIM Name registration or use the e-mail itself as a separate action).

Can you use IMAP with the ipads mail feature?

    Kappy,
Yes, our domain and email accounts are on a server that does accept IMAP. Also, our mac mini and imacs are all set up for IMAP. Buying an ipad will enable me to work from home during this winter.
Another ?: do you know if you can use text edit with the iPads mail feature? Reason being we have about 100 generic emails that all we have to do is change a few fields before sending out. Can this be integrated in without having to recreate all these messages?

  • Can you use ichat to talk to friends on facebook?

i guess my subject says it all, but anyway: can i use ichat to talk to friends who are online on facebook? i would like to be able to not have to be on facebook to talk to friends. thanks!
also--> would this involve having to download certain software? or is it possible to do it without extra stuff?
    thanks again

The option has been given to developers by facebook to make it work through jabber. However, as of yet nothing has materialised. Keep your eyes open for it... this may be the year!

  • Can you use Appletv with iPhone only?

A friend has an iPhone, no Mac, still running a pc. Wants to get an ATV2. Can she use it with just an iPhone?

She can use it with iTunes on the PC.
Renting movies/internet based functions do not require a computer at all.
An iPhone 4 (and 3GS I think) can send compatible media to AppleTV2 via the Airplay function - computer not essential for this.

  • Digital Vault: can you use Filechute with digital ...

I'm hoping to use Filechute (a Mac OS program) with my BT Digital Vault allowance.  (I have Filechute working fine with Dropbox.)
Filechute can be configured with either an FTP or a WebDAV enabled server
    The set up needs:
    1   Host Name
2   my username and password - I have these ok!
    3   upload URL
    4   download URL
Has someone got the settings, or can you suggest what they may be?

  • Can you use Redrum with GarageBand?

Hey, I just got a new Mac on Friday (my first mac ever), and was wondering if you could use redrum with Garage Bands Loops. What I want to do is use the loops I make in Propellerhead Reasons Redrum with Garage Bands Loop file. Can someone tell me or even if this is possible??

I have BFD Lite that came bundled with my ControlPad, & while it is a fully funtional drum solution, I've found EZDrummer to be, well, easier to use. Of course it depends on your intended application-do you want to trigger the sounds manually through pads or a keyboard, or are you looking for premade midi patterns? Both apps will work for either case, but the midi pattern interface for BFD is far more obtuse than that of EZD. All in all, I can appreciate the flexibility that BFD offers, but I use EZD 99% of the time, and I'm a long time drummer. FWIW, I rarely use the patterns, & trigger from a DrumKat or the ControlPad.
One caveat for drag & drop-GB will create an oddball track (mine is a flute track) & you'll need to re-drag the pattern into your drum track & eliminate the placeholder track.

  • Can you use Itunes with out an apple id?

my stepson has an Ipod and Itunes but he isn't old enough to have an apple id, what do we need to do? can he use them?

No. It has never been migrated to Linux.
With the current market share that Linux has, I seriously doubt that it will ever be migrated to that platform.

  • Can you use bb with terminal services?

I have a bb curve 8330 - my work outlook is on a terminal session.... how do I sync my bb with outlook?

    Hello,
The BB Desktop manager synchronsies the Handset through the MAPI PROFILE to the Mail system (through a BES if you use that option).
No MAPI Profile = No BB sync.
So, Terminal services or not, you need to set up a  MAPI profile on your Local PC.
If you cant do that due to VPN/firewall restrictuions/etc  then you cant sync the BB to your outlook data at all.
    Sorry.

  • Can you use ResourceBundle with resrouce that are grouped within folders?

Hi I'm trying to internationalize my program by using the java ResrouceBundle.
Is there a way to use it with resources that have been grouped into folders?
For example, instead of using locale to specify the resource name as MessageBundle_en_US.properties, I would like to specify the locale name as the resource folder name like this:
    resources_en_US/MessageBundle.properties
    or resources_fr_FR/MessageBundle.properties etc.
Is there something already available for this in the API that i'm not aware of or, if possible, is there a way to overwrite the ResrouceBundle package to handle this?

    Hi Simon,
Yes, I understand people would expect it to work on the emulator too, but the point of Scout is really to provide you information about the real performance (on the device and in production) to be really accurate and reflect the reality.
Having it work with the emulator would always be an approximation, which could still maybe be valuable, but we thought we would focus on production code.
But thanks for bringing this up, it is valuable feedback about your experience.

Yes, that is an improvement in Muse, check release notes here, http://forums.adobe.com/message/5104247 - Widget Improvements
The selected tab in Design view for the Tabbed panel widget will now be selected/active when previewing, exporting or publishing the site to Business Catalyst.

  • How can you use iChat or Jabber in a small office

We currently use "Quick Conference" which allows you to see who is logged in at startup, immediately send them a message without doing anything else and it just "works". You don't have to drag them somewhere or invite them to anything.
I don't see any way to use Jabber or iChat the same way.
Looks to me like I have to start up Jabber every day and "Invite" EVERY employee every day? With only 21 employees, that's still onerous.
Also, I've read about using Safari as a bookmark for ChatRooms but that requires naming a Chat. I see nowhere to do that. I can "start" a new chat and invite others to join, but that's a LONG way to go each and every day for the same people.
I just want a simple, internal communication system that people don't have to do anything with but select who they want to send amessage to and hit it....
Any more than that and I'll stay with Quick Conference.
Am I looking at the wrong product??

    Hi,
Both the AIM buddy window (Buudy list) and Jabber can make 'calls' to the outside world.
The Main Buudy List (AIM) can only chat to people via the AIM servers.
Jabber can work just on your local LAN if you set up a Jabber sever. It can also connect to other Jabber users through a Public server. More info here

  • Can you use UIButton with toggle a feature ??

I'm experimenting with Interface Builder and Xcode but am new to Object-C and I understand MVC and IBOutlets/IBActions and have gone through the iPhone101 tutorial and introductory guides on apple's developer site, which is excellent BTW.
What I would like to know is: If I create an *iOS View-based Application* in Xcode and then add a UIButton to the *ViewController's xib file* in Interface Builder, then:
    1) Is it possible to make the button behave like a toggle switch (i.e. tap once to highlight/enable it then tap once again to de-highlight it) and if so, how does one code it ? (I know you can do it with separate image files using the setImage:forState: instance method, but I want to avoid that)
    2) What is the purpose of creating an IBOutlet to a UIButton that sends an IBAction when it's touched ? (The *View Controller Programming Guide for iOS* isn't very clear about it...)
I understand that the UIButton class inherits from the UIControl class and therefore inherits the properties enabled, highlighted, selected, state, etc from it, which I assume are part of the solution.
    Thanking you in advance.

    Excuse the delay in replying...
Excellent! - thanks for that xnav
It work even with the delay set to 0.0 on the iPhone Simulator, but not sure about on an iPhone though.
I think I need to read up about @selector and the performSelector instance method.
I found today another possible solution (but have not tried it out though):

  • Can you use Exchange with Mail.app?

    Hello,
I have attempted to search for this answer but have not found anything that really helped me. Can someone guide me to an url or resource to see if using Exchange on a Mack with Mail is possible?
    Thanks so much!

    Hi all;
For MS Exchange on Mac, you need to run IMAP4 on MS Exchange server to allow Mac users connect and download emails locally using Mail.app (copy from emails remain on server like Outlook).
    For that do the following:
    1. Enable IMAP4 service:
    a. From Services (Local).
    b. Microsoft Exchange IPAM4.
    c. Change it to Automatic.
    d. Start the service.
    2. Enable IMAP4 in MS Exchange system:
    a. Exchange System Manager.
    b. First Organization.
    c. Servers.
    d. 'Server name'.
    e. Protocols.
    f. IMAP4.
    g. Default IMAP4 Virtual Server.
    h. Right click and Start.
    3. Restart MS Exchange server.
    On Mac client (Mail.app):
    1. Add new account.
    2. Email Address: [email protected]
    3. Password: user's password.
    4. Account Type: Exchange.
    5. Incoming Mail Server: "MS Exchange server" IP or Full DNS name (i.e. Server.test.com).
    6. User Name: [email protected]
    7. Password: user's password.
    8. Outlook Web Access Server: Same to Incoming Mail Server.
    9. Outgoing Mail Server: Same to Incoming Mail Server.
    10. Check "Use Authentication" and fill User and Password fields.
    11. Check "Take Account Online" .
Note: Mac users have to join the windows domain
