Can you use iTunes match and not get duplicates if you maintain mp3s and aiffs files of the same song in either the same or separate libraries?
I maintain a collection of aiff files and mp3 files of the same music.
Aiff for home listening and Mp3 for my devices.
I can arrange these in the same or seperate libraires.
Will "itunes match" duplicate the songs in the cloud if they in the same or seperate libraies on the same mac?
If not, is anyone aware of how to manage seperate Mp3 and Aiff libraries so as not to get duplicates in itune match?
All assistance is appreciated.
Thanks!
Hello mracole,
I checked my "purchases" and the 7/19/13 purchases don't show up. However, the earlier versions from usually several years back...the ones that are Matched...often do show up in my Purchases. I suspect that somehow those REALLY purchased several year old versions were deleted and redownloaded by me so I could change them to the 256 kbps versions under iTunes Match. They were probably 128 kbps versions originally when purchased.
Why the earlier versions that were really purchased are now identified as Matched is puzzling.
Why I now have Purchased versions from 7/19/13 is puzzling too...especially since these versions do NOT show up in my purchases.
Calling Apple Support if a good idea unless someone can explain this mystery. I might even take one of my laptops to the Apple store and show a Genius.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, Mr. Luigi

i did the add a computer function and it says that this computer is already associated with an apple id...if you use itunes match with your apple id etc for 90 days...please explain. is this going to screw my wifes account up?
If you both have seperate iTunes Store accounts then basically, yes, it is going "screw up" your wife's account.
iTunes Match is designed as a single-user service which is associated with one and only one iTunes Store account ID. If you have subscribed on your account and want to activate the service on another computer that is already signed in with an account the present account must be signed out and then iTunes signed into your account. This means the other computer will have complete access to your account and will only be able to make purchases on your account. iTM is not designed to be signed in and out at will. If she has apps purchased with her iTunes Store account they will not be able to be updated. -
Open message to Apple - why the **** do you force us to deal with this Genius Playlist crap if using iTunes Match?? GET AN OFF OPTION INSTALLED. I AM PAYING FOR MATCH - SO QUIT FORCING YOUR INANE ATTEMPTS AT WHAT YOU THINK I LIKE ON ME !!!!!! YOU ALREADY HAVE THE OPTION WHEN MATCH IS OFF. HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY THINK THERE IS A CONNECTION????? LET ME ME ME DECIDE!
IF anyone knows how to turn that Genius crap OFF WHILE MATCH IS 'ON' - Please let me know. Under 10.7
I HATE THESE PLAYLISTS - NEVER USE THEM- WASTES MY SCREEN REAL ESTATE..At the moment it is not possible to disable Genius Playlists on iOS devices. However, these forums are user-to-user forums and no Apple employees participate here. You would be better to submit your polite feedback via the Apple Feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/

I have a family Apple ID associated with my iMac and iPad for iTunes and Apps and then two new iPhone 5s each which use a personal Apple ID for email and the family Apple ID for iTunes and Apps. Can I use iTunes Match on the iPhones given there are two Apple IDs "loaded" on the iPhone?

Can I use iTunes Match on my Sonos with my iPhone and iPad?
Can I use iTunes Match on my Sonos with my iPhone and iPad?
I have Sonos. No, it won't use iTunes match. It will allow you to stream your itunes media, but only the files you have on a hard drive on your network.
ETA: It does let you play other internet services such as Spotify though. -
if you use iTunes match in order to create space and remove music from your hard drive, does that happen automatically when you subscribe and upload your music or is there another step to remove the music from your hard drive once you've uploaded to iTunes match?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
iTunes match won't automatically remove content from your computer, if you want to do that you will need to do it manually yourself. -
Can i use iTunes Match with just an Ipad or Iphone? I no longer have a computer

Is there any way to use match without computer ?
Not really, no. I suppose in theory, but there is no way to manage the library, or retrieve the match contents for back up or other purposes. -
Can I use iTunes Match without Genius turned on? Genius is fine but Match then sends me additional music to my Libary that I don't want
Without a computer you will not be able to do any managing of the music in the cloud. There is no way to edit any metadata on an iOS device.
Also, iTunes Match is not a backup service and should not be relied up as such. With no computer you will not have any backups of your music. -
Can I use iTunes Match without a computer? I only have an iphone at the moment with stored music. My computer was stolen.
iTunes match will only work from a computer in terms of uploading new content. You should be able to copy iTunes purchases back via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11). For content from other sources there are some third-party programs listed half-way down this page which might help you get your content back from your phone : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

I have no credit card. Can I use iTunes Match without credit card? From this Apple KB article: <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4914>.
You may use store credit to pay for your iTunes Match subscription however a valid payment method must still be on file at the time of sign up.
So, yes, or a PayPal account. -
Can I use iTunes Match to transfer music from an iPhone4 to a new iPhone5s? I'm traveling without my laptop!
- Music was purchased outside of iTunes store
- On a vacation
- iPhone 4 has all my music
- No access to iTunes
- Want to buy a new iPhone 5s on vacation but this is holding me backHonestly, I've never used iTunes Match.
Keep in mind that iTunes Match is only for music, any other media content would not be affected.
Also, pictures synced to the device from a computer will not be moved over unless the new device is restored from a backup on that computer.
Personaly, unless the current iPhone was damaged or otherwise acting as if on it's last leg, I'd wait. There may be better options in 3 months. -

Is it possible to download iOS 5 from one iMac on two ipads and not get them totally wiped of apps and stuff. We have an iPad each and a communal email address and an iCloud address each. One iPad now is totally screwed up.
Thank you for your reply.
I am somewhat new to iOS and OS having grown up with DOS and Windows. I am not familiar with IMAP and iCloud and I am not even sure which types of servers my various emails use.
The problem I would anticipate with iCloud is that (I assume) it would limit my access to data (including mail) on the iCloud to when I happen to be logged onto the internet. I also assume(?) that large files (photos etc.) would require some time to download whenever I wish to access them from whichever device I happen to be using (I hope I am wrong about this).
I have kept my devices to 500gb - 1TB for OS and 32gb - 128gb for iOS but since I have pretty slow WiFi (shared with DirecTV Whole Home and Netflix streaming) it is my impression that iCloud might be quite limited due to data transfer times.
Perhaps a factor would be that I have 2 DSL lines and my main DSL line is connected to two wireless routers (to also provide WiFi in a metal building that blocks WiFi and Cellular signals)
I may be totally wrong in my assumptions regarding iCloud. My mail is not so urgent that I need access to it instantly and I could wait until I had internet access or I can get it on my iPhone. My main concern with iCloud would be my data files (Word, Pages, Excel, Numbers etc.).
On the other hand, if I wanted to keep my 10,000 emails that would take up a lot of iCloud memory and I don't know how to measure how much storage it would take or how to move Hotmail or even iCloud mail to iCloud.
It may take me some time to figure this out.
