Can you use PC-1066 memory in 2011 Mac Mini?

I have a Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" with the standard 4Gb of PC-1066 and I'm looking into buying the 2011 Mac Mini base model.
Now, if I purchase 8Gb of PC-1066 for my MBP, is the Mini compatible with the PC-1066 memory? I know both the MBP and Mini use the same form factor memory, but the Mini takes PC-10600. With PCs, this sort of backwards compatibility is pretty standard but I'm still pretty new to Macs and I'm not sure how fickle they are.
Anyone know if you can use PC-1066 in place of PC-10600 in the Mac Mini?

Works physically, but the 1066MHz RAM is a lower speed than the 1333MHz RAM that 2011 Mini uses.
Personally I'd leave the MacBook as is and order the correct upgrade for the Mini.

No. There is no "USB Target Disk Mode".
Just so we're clear, when you start your Mac mini in FireWire Target Disk Mode (TDM - holding T on startup), do you see a FireWire icon on the Mac mini's display? IIRC, it's not required that the Mac mini be connected to a display for TDM, but it would help diagnose whether or not the mini is actually starting in this mode.

Can I use final cut pro X on " Mac mini" ?

depending on what model: for sure yes, it does!
I did use FCPX on an old MacMini, c2d, 2.26GHz with 8GB Ram (using proxies made editing easy).
My actual work-horse is a MacMini i5, late 2012, 16GB Ram, plus some ext. usb3 drives = perfect for my needs! (costs vs. power)
I'm using two cheap 2.5" Toshiba 1TB usb3-drives, combined with MacOS' built-in DiskUtility as a Raid0 = 150mbps for under 100€ ... not professional (=raid0 contains a small risk of data loss), but again: best €-vs.-HP ratio

yes, you sure can.usb wifi adapters are availabe for your Mac Pro. try afterthemac.com. I don't work for them, just the first page that popped up. Dlink
makes something, but you may have heard a few stories about how DLink might be

  • Can I use iMac as display for new mac mini?

can I hook my early 2008 24" Core 2 Duo iMac to a new Mac Mini to use as a display?
I love the display, but my iMac is getting too slow, even with the maximally upgraded RAM to 4 GB.  I don't want to get rid of my iMac, so I was thinking of buying a Mac Mini to attach it.
I'm worried that the OS X Yosemite will make my iMac even slower.
    Any suggestions?
    Nick

Not without a standalone monitor; that iMac doesn't support video in.

  • Can´t use power symbol in Excel 2011 Mac

I have Microsoft Office 2011 installed in my Mountain Lion.
the problem is that while using Excel it does not recognize the key ˆ (hat) to calculate.
The unusual solution is to use the power function, but the ˆ typing should work correctly.
I think that reamapping keys in System Preferences/Language and text/Change symbols and text should work.
The problem is I do not know how to insert the ASCII symbol to change the keytype ˆ to this ASCII or unicode symbol.
Can anyone help me with this problem?
    Tks!

    I solved the problem.
I used Excel Autocorrect to change the circunflex symbol by the hat symbol.
Just copy the hat symbol from Word typing circunflex and adding space will change the character to hat symbol, then go back to Excel and paste the hat symbol to the modified character.
Simple as that, now my Excel can calculate 2ˆ3=8 now.

  • Can you use apple tv to mirror my mac screen

I currently have a macbook air with display adaptor to HDMI cable and am able to surf the net . Is it possible to use Apple TV2 and possibly Airplay to project the screen of a Macbook Air onto a large TV attached to the Apple TV2 thus avoiding the attached HDMI cable across the lounge room given that AppleTV does not provide a full internet browser functionality.
    Trevor

i have been hearing about "mirroring" with the new ios being released in july (ios5). the guy at the genius bar said it would mirror, but what does that mean? does that mean that i can display my ipad or iphone (or mbp) through my apple tv? this would be great for practicing presentations for my friends before i have to give them for real and such.
i know speculation is against the rules, but i thought since this was about there in beta and likely people are using it that it didnt count cause it wasnt speculation, its simply "advance knowledge".
    thanks.

  • Can you use a VGA monitor on the Mac Pro model?

I'm considering getting a new Mac Pro to replace my beloved PowerMac G4 MDD. I have a ViewSonic Graphics Series 19" CRT monitor (VGA) that I use as a palette monitor, with a 19" SyncMaster LED as my main monitor (DVI). My PowerMac's video card has both DVI and VGA ports.
Will I be able to use my VGA monitor with the basic Mac Pro (MB871LL/A)? Will a DVI/VGA video port adapter work, and if so, will it work well? Thanks.

I had two 19" Viewsonic WS monitors hooked up to my X1900XT on my MacPro and it worked just fine with the VGA/DVI adapters (I got the small 2" white adapters that don't have any "cord" in the middle. I swapped them out for two 22" WS Acer monitors and now use the DVI inputs and I am still happy.

  • Can you use sage on a mac?

Can you use sage accounting software on a MAC?

You didn't indicate which iMac (processor type) you have, even though this Forum is designated for the older PowerPC processor models.  From this Q&A on the Sage web site, the only option is for Intel processor-based Macs and it requires running the Windows OS via Boot Camp.  Older PowerPC processor-based Macs cannot natively run the Windows environment, except through virtualization software - which Sage doesn't recommend because of possible corruption and/or loss of data.

  • Can you use apple tv on 2009 mac

can you use apple tv on a 2009 mac . I have Mac OS X (10.7.5 running

Yes but it will probably be too old for Airplay mirroring of the Mac's display but should work fine for sharing photos from iPhoto/Aperture or playing compatibl media from your local iTunes library with iTunes running.
For many features AppleTv does not need a computer at all.

  • Can I display EyeTV's live TV over HDMI-out and be able to see my desktop using screen-sharing on a headless mac-mini used as a media-box?

    Hi,
I'm thinking of buying a new mac-mini to replace my current one which acts as an iTunes server and records TV programs using eyeTV. I connect using screen-sharing/VNC to be able to do stuff on it (like handbrake etc.)
I have eyeTV with a satelite receiver and I want to change the setup so that:
    - the new mac-mini continues to work as an iTunes server (and handbrake workhorse)
    - I can use the HDMI output (inc. audio) to show eyeTV's live TV full-screen app
    - I can connect using screen-sharing/VNC to the mac-mini and see my normal desktop to be able to maintain it etc. but this is a headless display (no screen is connected to the display-port).
    - recorded media I'd play through the appleTV2 still + rentals etc. unless anyone knows if eyeTV software can offer up iTunes content? I don't like the eyeTV recordings in general as it seems very slow to me for access when there are lots of recordings and wouldn't be available in other apleTVs in the house AFAIK.
The main benefit that this gives me is that I'd no longer need a seperate satelite box to watch live TV and can add more eyeTV hardware to get additional TV channels all through the same HUD on the TV for ease of access.
Does this seem possible in theory & practice (ie are there any gotcha's to consider?)
    - can I force the HDMI output resolution to 1080i as I go via an amp to the TV and the appleTV2 drops to low-res in this configuration so I have had to find a workaround for that.
    - does the mac-mini have IR input that can be programmed?
    - Does eyeTV software remain stable for long periods?
    - Does the HDMI out have any handshake issues that would need a reset of the display (somehow)?
thanks in advance for any thoughts/contributions
    Lee

I think the easiest way to do this is to have the EyeTV app running in one user account and sent via HDMI to the TV, and use a separate user account for Screen Sharing. Both logins can be active at the same time and with Lion you can connect via screen sharing to which ever login you need.
With regards to the Mac video resolution changing, when it is not the current input on your AV receiver. This is 'normal', if the Mac sees no signal it drops down the a lower level. What you need is to buy a HDMI Detective Plus which tricks the Mac in to always seeing a signal and hence it will not drop down the resolution. See http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=8005
The Mac mini does have an IR receiver. This can be used with the EyeTV app, iTunes, and similar. Yes I believe EyeTV would run for prolonged periods quite happily, it is has been around for a long time and had most of the rough edges polished off. However one issue you will have to deal with is that it does not automatically update its program guide data. For this you might have to write or modify an AppleScript. Elgato support or their user forums will be a lot of help.
You can set EyeTV to convert recordings to an iTunes (Apple TV) compatible format and then delete them from EyeTV.
The HDMI Detective should solve your handshaking problems.

  • Snow leopard on new 2011 Mac mini?

Please explain why u can not Install snow leopard on new 2011 Mac mini?

Actually You Can.  Use any late Macintosh that will run Snow Leopard and either boot from a 10.6.3 universal installer that been intalled on a hard drive (quickest) or boot from the UNIVERSAL OS X 10.6.3 DVD.  The new Mac Mini should be connected via FireWire in TARGET MODE to the host Macintosh.
Use disk Uitility to format the Mac Mini Hard Drive and install 10.6.3 on it. When it boots (still in target mode) it will be the boot drive for the host macintosh.
Then install 10.6.8 update and iLife 11 and Applejack (this will fix the install in the end).
Then run software update and carry out all updates that it indicates.
After that shut down and take the Mini off Target Mode and disconnect the firewire cable.
Restart the Mini and run software update again.  Note - the cursor may take any number of shapes at this stage but continue on.  Certainly you wil be asked to run software update OS X 10.6.8 supplemental which should fix the cursor problem.
Restart and hold dowm <Command><S> until a black screen with white writing appears.  Wait for it to scroll down to the end and at the prompt type applejack AUTO restart and then press <Enter>
Applejack will run 5 routines which may take some time and at the finish it will restart.
    That should be it!
One codicil.  If you read the stuff that Applejack brings up you will see that half the processors are not working.  This is no big deal and does not seem to affect the operation at all.
The good news is that SL will run on a new Mac Mini which should satisfy a lot of users who have apps that are not yet Lion Compatible.
