Can you use surround sound 5.1home theatre systems with iMac 27"?

Can you use surround sound 5.1 home theatre systems with iMac 27"? I was thinking of using my iMac as an internet television as well as home pc. thanks

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
The Mac puts out encoded 5.1. It is the function of the amplifier, receiver or decoder to take that signal and turn it into something useful. At minimum you will need a device that can accept that output and turn it into something useful.
Most studios that I am familiar with want to be able to use their own 5.1 decoder, amp and speakers. Juicier sound!

  • Can you use surround sound with the built-in optical out on dual 1.8 g5?

Ok here's the thing, I just got the new version of Final Cut Studio, and was wanting to set up my g5 to utilize the surround mixing capabilities of SoundTrack Pro 2.
I have verified that i'm getting 5.1 sound via Apple's DVD Player, but when i go to Applications-> Utilities->Audio MIDI Setup, I cannot configure the system for multiple channels. It only allows me to output stereo.
Is my assumption of being able to use the built-in optical out for 5.1 monitoring incorrect? Do I have to go buy a firewire/usb audio interface?
    Info about my system:
    I have a Bose Acoustimass 10 5.1 Speaker setup.
I have a Onkyo DR-C500 5.1 Receiver, which does dolby pro logic 2 and dts decoding.
The Onkyo Receiver is hooked up via the spdif optical output of my G5.

  • Can you use midi sounds when recording videos on Photobooth?

Can you use midi sounds when recording videos on Photobooth?
Basically, i like to record videos of me singing and playing guitar or keyboard, but to get a good sound for the keyboard I'd like to be able to record the audio using MIDI sounds...
Ive got Logic, I've got M-Audio Fast Track Pro, into which i have my mic, guitar, and keyboard midi plaugged into. I can use it to record the mic and guitar on photobooth as they are audio inputs, however i can't use the midi sounds on the keyboard :/ I have tried having logic open with the desired MIDI sound selected whilst recording but it doesnt work...
Is there ANY way this is possible?
    HELP PLEASE!
    Thanks!

I Have just the same problem, if I shout very near the microphone i can just hear something, did you manage to solve the problem?

  • Can you use Sibelius sounds with Logic?

Sibelius comes with it's own orchestral sounds (Kontakt sounds). I know you can buy the Kontakt sounds separately BUT does anyone know if Logic will play the ones that exclusively come with Sibelius. I'm wondering if Sibelius comes with some code that doesn't let it share the instruments?
    Anyone able to help?

The plugin only works in Sibelius, as far as I know. It's hard coded that way, because it's a Sibelius extra, not a general purpose plugin for use in other hosts.

  • Can you use a digital download of Windows 7 with Bootcamp?

I want to install Windows 7 on my Mac (OSX 10.6.8), but I don't want to go out and buy a disc.
Is it possible to use a digital download if I have the proper registration codes, etc?

That's a pretty typical price (and actually about the lowest I've ever found) for a full install version. The upgrade disks can easily be found under $95, but won't install without access to a previous version. MS does not sell their OS cheap.
You can find copies for somewhat less on ebay, but you have to be very selective. Many are full version copies, but were only meant to be sold with a computer bundle, so there's no guarantee they'll work on all systems. Also very many where the package has been opened. You don't want those. The serial number has already been used, or written down by the seller. Such ads will state things like the serial number has been de-authorized. Bull! You can't do that with Windows. The serial number is tagged to the computer it was installed on. There is no uninstall or any way to de-authorize or transfer the serial number.

  • Can you use a text field for email sender with E-mail button

basically i would like to use input information from the user when someone sends an email instead of the default which is to look for a third party e-mail program like outlook. I want to bypass that and possibly use a text field that has the user input their email. some people don't use outlook so it would be nice to bypass that somehow. Is there a way to send email without the whole outlook thing, like not needing a "sender" and instead require them to input email address. I just want to receive the pdf. I am using LIVECYCLE by the way.

  • Using your own AMS, how can you use BitmapData.draw() on an RTMP stream with no security exception?

We have an Adobe AIR app written in AS3 that can view live video streams from other parties.  That being said, when trying to call BitmapData.draw() on one of those remote video streams (technically we're calling ImageSnapshot.captureImage()), we're getting a 2123 error - a security sandbox exception.  I've seen a lot of people refer to a real simple configuration in the AMS that will allow this to work for RTMP streams, but they keep posting broken links, links to posts that only vaguely mention this configuration, etc.  The one thing I did find is something that I'm having trouble applying:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_SS_ASD/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a11afc9 5e-7ec3.html#WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d11a11afc95e-7fcb
Please don't just give me another link, unless it's to a quick, clear explanation.  How do you configure the AMS to allow people to capture screenshots from RTMP video streams?  For the above article, I've tried setting videoStreamAccess and audioStreamAccess both to "/", and even it didn't work.  We also need to be able to do this for P2P RTMFP streams, but that's really a different question.  Thanks.

You will get a better luck if you post this question on media server forum:

  • Can you use a control reference for a graph with two channels of data?

when i try to wire a 2-D array of data to the value property of a graph(strict control reference), it shows a conflict. The value data type only shows up as accepting a 1-D array input. I want to use control references to pass the chart data to my main vi. Will I have to change the waveform graph control reference into an array control reference to make this work?? This would require adding a while loop in the main vi to read the array data and update the graph data??

I think the problem is that your waveform graph is set to take one type,
a 1D array of doubles, and you are wiring a different type. While
charts adapt to type when the data is wired to their terminal, they do
not adapt to data wired to their value property. If you change the
datatype of the graph from its terminal, then you should see the value
property change type also and you are set.

  • Sound blaster Upmixed surround sound Vs Home Theatre syste

Is there anyone has used Sound Blaster (any kind) to Upmix the stereo sound to surround (5.,6. or 7.) by hooking up to the home theatre system? Please help tell me the surround sound of which one (by using Sound Blaster upmixing or Home theatre system's) is better?

Not quite sure what your asking but here goes anyway, 7. is obviously the better due to having 7speakers and a sub which equals more channels, more speakers, greter effects.
If you have a creative home theatre that is 7. such as 'Creative GigaWorks S750' and your sound card doesnt support 7. then the theatre system does allow you to upmix 5. or 6. to 7., but this is not as good as having true 7. because for example if you watch a movie that has 7. surround sound support the sound will only be played in 5. or 6. but the theatre system will upmix it to play on all 7 speakers, to explain in more detail if the film you are watching is trying to play sound on just the middle speakers if the sound card only supports 5. then the sound will get sent to the rear speakers insted and the theater system will upmix it and send it to the middle speakers as well, which would reduce what ever sound effects it is that the movie is trying to put across. So for the best performance and entertainment value a 7. theatre system with 7. capable sound card is the best option.
    Hope this helps

  • How do you activate surround sound recording?

I haven't had the need to use surround sound recording yet, but see that it's a feature of Logic Express (and up to 7.1) ... but I can't find it. Do I need to activate it somewhere first? In the manual, 'Surround' appears in the channel strip setting menu, but I don't get that ...what am I missing? Where do I find it?

    a-ha! I new I wasn't going crazy!
    go to http://www.apple.com/au/logicexpress/what-is.html
and down the page on the left, with a pic of the Surround Panner is:
    "Mix in surround.
Logic Express offers end-to-end surround capabilities, so you can record, edit, mix and encode projects in surround up to 7.1. Graphic surround panning lets you precisely position audio in a Quad, LCRS, 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 surround field. Surround support includes multichannel signal routing and you can submix surround tracks or use sends to route audio to surround auxiliary tracks."
    ...so my question remains open

  • Can i use purchased sound effects off iTunes in an iOS app? - copyright issue

basically I'm making an iOS app, and i need a sound effect that i purchased off the iTunes store, aka from some company. Can i use this sound effect in my app without being sued a lot of money? If i payed for the file i should be okay correct?

    Hello Aidan,
Here is the statement from the Terms and Conditions of the iTunes Store:
"You shall be authorized to use iTunes Products only for personal, noncommercial use."
We do not give legal advice on this Forum, but I think the statement is pretty clear.

  • Can you use FaceTime or iChat to call a non-iPhone?

Can you use FaceTime or iChat to call a someone who does not have an iPhone?

    Hi,
    Yes.
Just to be clear let me qualify that.
FaceTime can contact other devices that use FaceTime either by a iPhone Number (includes some iPads) or an Apple ID.
There is a FaceTime for Mac version so the person you contact (by Apple IDs) does not have to be on an iPhone.
As well as iPhones certain other iOS 5 devices can use FaceTime and these include iPads as already mentioned and certain version of iPod Touches.
As iChat does not work to iPhones and is an Instant Messaging app that can do Video and Audio Only chats and Screen Sharing, File Transfers, Pics-in-chats, iChat Theatre and more then the answer is also Yes.
I suspect the question was really "Can I contact other phones that can do Video using FaceTime ?"  the answer to that is No.
iChat can Text chat to most client apps on Phones (Jabber or AIM for instance)
Video needs iChat (Or AIM or Trillain on a  PC).
