Can you use the data while NOT on the EDGE network?

I am wondering if when I travel through SD and ND I will be able to use my data (email, web, maps...etc.) I am in Minneapolis on the EDGE network, but I'm concerned that in Sioux Falls, SD no a GPRS network I won't be able to use 1/2 the functions on my phone.
Before release the rumor was that it would work, but has anyone actually tried it yet?

So essentially you're asking... if there's no Wi-Fi or EDGE coverage will you be able to use the data network features of the phone?
In short... from my experience the answer appears to be "no, it won't work." Allow me to elaborate:
I disabled Wi-Fi access and found an EDGE dead spot where the phone could not connect to the EDGE data network but I could place a phone call. When I attempted to launch Mail and sync, I got a message saying that my IMAP server could not be reached. When attempted to launch a website, I received an error message stating that the server could not be reached.
End result, I was unable to use any of the data network features of the phone. So it would appear... that the answer is no. It will not use the basic GPRS undearlining network. However it's quite possible that your results may vary.

  • Can you use GPS app while talking on the phone at the same time?

Hi I'm just curious because I will be getting a iPhone 4 in May and I wanted to know if it's possible to be in a phone call while also using an GPS app?
Does the GPS app use the data connection or the GPS signal or satellites?
    Thanks a bunch!
    Bruce

Thanks and I also did some research and found out that with GPS active, if you load your route/directions prior to making a phone call the route will be cached and navigation still works. The GPS will tell you where you are along the route.
But if you're on the phone and then try to load a map or navigation it will not load your route until it can download the map, meaning you will need to wait until you get off the phone call to download the info.
So if you know you will need to use navigation, turn on your GPS, load your map/route to start navigation, then make your phone call. Makes sense to me now and if anyone needs to know here is the solution right here.

  • How do I use cellular data while talking on the phone?

How do I use cellular data while talking on the phone?

If your carrier supports it, you just use it like you would if you were not on the phone. Use a headset or put it on speaker, press the home button, and do whatever you want...
If you use a CDMA carrier (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) then you can not use cellular data while on a voice call.

Before going ahead on this you should definitely check with Apogee as I think they do not recommend using their interface(s) in an Aggregate device.
    Maybe that's changed.. not sure.

If you're referring to the iCloud.com website for you account there are no photos there.  Photop Stream is only for syncing photos between iOS devices and Macs.

  • HT4818 Can you use both Bootcamp and Parallels with the same Windows 7 installed

I have Parallels installed with Windows 7.  Can I use both Bootcamp and Parallels on the same machine depending on whether I just want to work in Windows all day (Bootcamp) or alternate during the same session (Parallels)?

You can, yes. But there is a complication: once you activate windows it will only be activated for one of the two methods you use. So, let's say you install into boot camp and activate windows. You can then install Parallels and it will find your boot camp installation, but when running in Parallels, Windows will report that it is not activated. Or, you can activate it in Parallels and when running in Boot Camp Windows will report that it is not activated. The reason for this is because Windows thinks it is running on different computers depending on how you boot it. This may not be an issue for you if you run Windows a lot one way and just occasionally the other way, so be sure to activate Windows in whichever method you use more often. Hope this helps!

  • MuVo2 (1,5G): Can I Use output power only (not install the battery) when I listen the mus

    Hi Sir:
When I am in home and listen the music on MuVo2 ,can I use output power only (AC power) and remove the battery ( the battery is not in the MuVo2)?
This is good to the MuVo2 or not ? (have any damange?)
Because I always use the MuVo2 in my home, I think to charge AC into the battery, and use it until in low battery , then charge again.. It seem to a little stupid....
Can I use AC(output power) only when I listen the music ? and remove the AC(output power) when I close/shut down the MuVo2 ? ( I know , the usermanual say it is not good to MuVo2 if AC(output power) "always on" the MuVo2 even it's shutdown.)
I saw in the usermanual there will be a little image indicate the MuVo2 is "output power only".... So can I use output power only or not ? Is it good to MuVo2?
    Thanks a lot !!
    ( Your product is great~!)
    B/R, Richard

    Richard,
Yes, you can use the player on the AC outlet only if you want, that's fine.

  • On the Mac Pro Desktop can you use a Samsung smart tv as the main and only monitor? Is there any reason one would not do that with a wireless keyboard?

I have not purchased the Mac Pro yet when I do my thought is to use our Samsung 55" Smart tv as the main monitor along with a bluetooth apple keyboard. Any suggestions would be appreciated

A TV set is not a Monitor.
A TV set is intended for displaying moving pictures, and not stable, static pictures, with bright, saturated colors in adjacent areas on the screen without "bleeding", fine lines one pixel wide without vibration, or smooth-edged diagonals in fine text edges.
The 55" width is beyond your ability to see the screen edges when sitting close. If you sit appropriately far away, the text will be too small to read.
The Mac requires that any display respond to a query including display_name and capabilities. Many TV sets have a problem "paying attention" to the computer port and responding when queried, so the screen may often remain dark at startup and after sleep, requiring your intervention to show a picture.

  • Can you use iTunes match and not get duplicates if you maintain mp3s and aiffs files of the same song in either the same or separate libraries?

I maintain a collection of aiff files and mp3 files of the same music.
Aiff for home listening and Mp3 for my devices.
I can arrange these in the same or seperate libraires.
Will "itunes match" duplicate the songs in the cloud if they in the same or seperate libraies on the same mac?
If not, is anyone aware of how to manage seperate Mp3 and Aiff libraries so as not to get duplicates in itune match?
    All assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello mracole,
I checked my "purchases" and the 7/19/13 purchases don't show up.  However, the earlier versions from usually several years back...the ones that are Matched...often do show up in my Purchases.  I suspect that somehow those REALLY purchased several year old versions were deleted and redownloaded by me so I could change them to the 256 kbps versions under iTunes Match.  They were probably 128 kbps versions originally when purchased.
Why the earlier versions that were really purchased are now identified as Matched is puzzling.
Why I now have Purchased versions from 7/19/13 is puzzling too...especially since these versions do NOT show up in my purchases.
Calling Apple Support if a good idea unless someone can explain this mystery.  I might even take one of my laptops to the Apple store and show a Genius.
Thank you very much for taking the time to respond, Mr. Luigi

  • Can you turn off data but not phone

How do you turn off the data on your phone (so you won't be charged for extra usage) but not the texting and phone?

Settings>General>Cellular>Cellular Data>Off. You can still SMS, but no MMS. iMessage will work while connected to WiFi.

  • Can you use Airdrop between two Macs witch the same Apple ID?

    Hi everyone,
you can see my question above. I have a MacBook Pro and an iMac but airdrop doesn`t seem two work between those two. They both use Mountain Lion. Its an iMac late 2012 and the MacBook Pro Retina mid 2012. This means that from a technical standpoint this would have to work but it doesn`t, so I figuered that maybe it is because of the fact that I use the same Apple ID with both of them. Can anyone confirm this or am I doing something wrong?
    Thank you in advance!!

It is not necessary that the computers connect through a Wi-Fi router or access point.
The following steps are only to exclude a possible third party device interference.
Turn off Wi-Fi router and or Access Point.
Check that iMac and MBP have their Wi-Fi turned on.
Select Finder, Go, AirDrop, wait a few seconds.
Can you see the other computer inside the AirDrop window?

  • Can you use developer tools to slow down the CPU speed?

I'd like to slow down my MBP processor speeds when I'm just browsing the web and reading emails. Can you do this with the developer tools that you get with your MBP?
I know there is an app that does this called "CoolBook." Has anybody used it?
    Mark

Well, you can do anything with the developer tools for OSX, but there is not tool like CoolBook. If you want to find the malloc holes in NeoOffice, install the developer tools. If you want to underclock your machine, use something else.
CoolBooks is probably a great idea (though I haven't used it). Just remember that the CPU is only part of the story and that screen brightness, airport, built-in ethernet, and peripherals play a big role in battery life. The elephant in the closet is also the GPU. I haven't ever seen anything about underclocking the GPU, but that thing takes up some serious juice as well.

  • Can you use sync on multiple computers at the same time? ie have someone else logged into your firefox account for you whilst you are also logged in

I am trying to sign up to something but there is only a short window so was going to ask a friend to sign in at the same time using my account to try to sign up (with my password being saved into my firefox account)

Hi. Yes, you can use Sync on multiple devices at the same time. I use it to keep my bookmarks in sync across my desktop and Android versions of Firefox.
