Cancel itunes account

i'm unable to cancel my account in any way , shape, or form online. Calling the toll free number does not reach a person. Any solutions?

I tried to edit my info but I'm unable to change or remove anything. Might that be due do not having the software anymore, maybe? I'm just about over it.

Michael, TBOMK, you can only edit your payment info thru the iTunes "Store" command.
The only way you might get a problem is if you still have an active credit card listed and if somebody learns your ID and password. If that is not a concern, then don't worry.

If they aren't showing on your account's purchase history then you should also contact your card issuer.

Cancel itunes account and stop billing credit card

I want to cancel my itunes account. They keep charging my credit card. I tried deleting my credit card information and it wouldn't delete it unless I put in another one. So i seem to be trapped paying these people over and over. I can't download any free apps without a credit card number. The card number is in for that not for the itunes, my grandaughter got for free trial.

If you're getting a repetitive billing, then someone most likely signed up for a subscription to something. You can stop the subscription by following these instructions:

The other possibility is that someone who downloaded an app through your iTunes Store account is making in-app purchases. Many apps, particularly games, are free for the base app but charge for additional features such as additional levels, game features, etc. You can confirm this by looking at the receipts for the purchases or in your purchase history and see what's being charged. If you change the password to your iTunes Store account, that should cut off such purchases.

How to cancel iTunes account??

I accidentally created two iTunes accounts with two different email addresses. I want to cancel one but cannot figure out how to do it. I tried just going to account info and deleting my CC#, but it wouldn't let me do that. Makes me nervous to have my CC info floating around on an unused account, so I really do want to get rid of the extraneous one. Thanks!

You can't cancel an account yourself, but you should be able to set your credit card details to zeros, or set you credit card to None.
If you want the account cancelled you have to contact Apple. There is an email form on the Store FAQ:

Canceling itunes account change to mobileme email

I want to change my e-mail address associated to my itunes account to my mobileme account. It is telling me that I needs to cancel my current account and start a new one with my mobileme email address. My question is do I get my past puchases back or do I loose them?

The last time I received official word on this from Apple, I was told it is not possible to merge or otherwise change Apple ID's.
Ours is not to reason why.

I called apple "support" and told them I wanted to cancel all accounts in my name.
They told me that I could not do that.
I said "what?" I am the person who pays the bills on those accounts.
I pointed out that can call amazon,Visa, American Express etc, and if I properly identify myself, they will close my account in a heartbeat.
Then they sent me to an account "guru", who told me the same thing and then hung up!!
Basically they said "we are Apple and the customer lives by our rules".
Apple is so cool that they set the rules.

So go use Microsoft (I don't care, the people responding here are not Apple employees, jut other users like you), your Apple ID account still won't be closed. If you don't want to use it, log in and remove all personalization information and credit card information, etc. Just stop using it.

I have had my itunes account connected to my work email address for the past few years. I am now changing jobs and I am trying to change the email account connected to my itunes account. When I entered my personal email account it says there was already an account associated with that email address but I've never used it for anything since I created it a long time ago. Is there a way to cancel that account so that my personal email address is free to use on my current account that I currently have linked to my work email address?

Maybe he's referring to renaming another iTunes Store account after making the email address null and available to be used. Otherwise, I agree with you that it is pointless.

Stop using it. Take your credit card info out of it.
No need to do anything else.
All purchases made from that account will still be tied to the account so you will have to authorize your computer to that account as well.

Stop using the account.
You need do nothing more.
You will need to authorize your computer for both accounts as you have purchased from both accounts.

As Niel stated, you cannot merge them.
You can keep the purchased items in your iTunes library and use them with no issues.
Just pick one of the AppleIDs and stick with that one.

Here's what the iTunes Store has said about cancelling an account (paraphrased from an email to another poster):
There are a couple of options that will allow you to retain full access to your purchases while preventing your account from being used to make additional purchases:
1) You can remove your billing information from your account at any time so that it can't be used to make purchases. By doing this, you retain the ability to authorize computers to play the items you have purchased with the account, and you will still have the account open in case you decide to use it later. To remove the billing information while keeping the account open, go to the Store menu in iTunes and choose View My Account. Log in, go to Payment Information, and in the credit card area choose the "none" option.
2) Apple may be able to disable your account, which will prevent it from being used to make purchases, but you will still be able to use the items you purchased with the account.
It is possible to cancel the account (or at least Apple has done so in special circumstances in the past), but you will lose the ability to re-download or update any items you've already purchased from the iTunes Store, or to authorize any existing or new devices to use that content. For example, if your computer is repaired, you may not be able to reauthorize the computer to use your purchases after the repair. Also, you wouldn't be able to authorize computers that were not already authorized before you canceled the account. You may sign up for a new account in the future, but your new account will not play any of the songs or videos purchased with the canceled account (and you can't reactivate the canceled account). You should not cancel the account if you want to be sure you can continue to use your iTunes Store purchases. I therefore strongly recommend either just removing your billing information or disabling the account as described above.
If you really insist on asking Apple to disable (or cancel) the account, you'll need to send a message to the iTunes Store via their contact page:

specifying if you would like it disabled (or canceled). They should then respond with additional information (some of which I've given above).

Click "Account" under Quick Links at the top right of the iTunes store. Next to payment information click "Edit" and then select "None" under payment method.
On an iOS device go to Settings>Store>Apple ID>View Apple ID>Payment Information>None.
