Canceling Disc Burn - Burn may take up to an hour

Everytime I try to back up my itunes onto disc this is the message I am getting. I have never had any problems before. I always do it from the itunes site...file =>library => back up to disc.
I tried to get around it by doing it from my D Drive and it says there's a problem with the disc...tried several others same message evrytime. It cancels the writing because it says the disc is the problem.
My burner is very slow but it's always been that way. It's not having any trouble reading previous backups or other cd's.
But I can't back up my itunes anymore...I have tried everything. Very frustrated and assistance would be appreciated.

I feel like i've answered questions like this over and over.
If you look around on the boards you will notice that lots and lots of people are having trouble burning CD's. I wasted 4 or 5 CD's because I actually wasn't sure what was going wrong.
It is the new Itunes 8.1. Seriousley just surf around the boards and you will find numerous posts. I think there is a post that has tons and tons of views and quite a few comments because we are trying to get Itunes attention so that they will fix it!
There are a few posts that have something that I think might solve the problem, but i haven't tried it yet. It's like changing the burn speed or something.

ive been going through the initial steps offered on itunes to back up library.i am only trying to back up purchased items.i then receive the info that says multiple discs required.so i put in first disc,it starts saying "writing to disc" and initializes the burning.i see several tracks pass by as though being burned.but at a certain point it starts reading "canceling the burn, will take a min or two".however more than 10 to 15 mins go by and nothing happens, except same message.and when i go to take the disc out,it informs me that if i cancel disc burn, info will not be burned.but it is not doing anything kind of in a frozen stasis with same message.what do i do?

  • Cancelling disc burn error 4310

    Hi all
I am hoping someone can help.
I have just bought a new Asus laptop with Windows 8 and have installed the latest version of iTunes.
All my music is in the library now and I have created some play lists and went to burn a disc, I selected maximum possible speed and in about 1 second it says "disc initiallising" and then straight away says "cancelling disc burn" and then says "attempt to burn disc failed, an unexpected error (4310) has occured".
I have googled this but cant find a solution that works. I have tried changing the compatibility to Windows 7, also tried Widows XP (service pack 3) and also unchecked this to not use an older version whatsoever. I have tried registering the new computer to my account. I have also tried a lower speed at 1x, when doing this it does a longer initialising and goes through all the songs but as soon as it goes to burn it cancels itself.
I have tried several different blank discs, nothing. It worked perfectly like this on the old computer (windows 7).
I have even ran diagnostics on the DVD drive through iTunes and results are below -
Can anyone help? I just want to put my music on to disc.
    Thanks

    Hi nina:
That is usually cause by using a DVD media that you Macs don't like.
Try using a DVD-R 4x from Verbatim. Seems to have the best track record here.

I can no longer burn CDs  - "may be incompatible with this disc burner, try a slower speed, try another make of disc"  Tried that, still doesn't work.

Try a free burning utility which allows you to turn off the laser for test burning (so you don't waste media).  Try burning a test CD outside of iTunes.  If it works it's iTunes. If it doesn't work it could be computer software or hardware but then we know how to proceed.

  • Canceling disc burn - stuck

My iTunes has said "canceling disc burn" for 3 days. I did attempt to cancel a disc burn and now I can't get the disc out. I have tried eject.
iTunes is working despite this, but I still need the disc out.

Run *Disk Utility*, select the disc and Eject it.
If that doens't do it, restart the computer holding the mouse button.

  • How to not verify discs after burning

I love OS X, because it comes with many features built right into Finder - and CD/DVD Burning as one of them. I would use it, however, if I hadn't verify every disc I burn with it. Is it possible to turn this annoying feature off?
P.S. Also, what are the benefits of verifying burned discs?
MacBook C2D   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Apple Mighty Mouse, iPod Nano 2nd Gen

Because so many optical disks have a fairly high failure rate, verifying is the best way to ensure the disk will stay a reliable storage medium for future use. If I'm storing thousands of MP3's on a DVD, I want it to work a year later. By not verifying, you take the chance of having a nice coaster for your troubles instead of the data you thought you were storing.
    Your mileage may vary
For me, verifying is part of the adventure of burning a disc.

  • Burner Not Reading Discs to Burn

I've been using my burner pretty regularly for several months: music CDs, data CDs, movie DVDs and data DVDs. Suddenly, this morning, it stopped recognizing media I put in to burn. iTunes never gets past "Checking Media" after I insert a blank CD and when I try to burn data through the Finder, the "Insert CD" prompt never goes away. However, if I insert a CD with data or music on it, the computer recognizes the disc just fine.
Any ideas for diagnostic or repair? Does this seem like a hardware issue, as I suspect? Or could it be software? Is there any easy way to look into this without involving Apple? (and losing my computer for a week or two...)
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    To Apple Discussions!
"I've been using my burner pretty regularly for several months:"
Have you been repairing permissions after your burning sessions?
Have you tried different disc brands?
Make sure your CDs & DVDs are not scratched, dirty, smudged, etc.

Your drive may need cleaning. You can purchase cleaning kits from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Have you checked the OS Help Menu for any troubleshooting suggestions?
What makes you think you have a hardware issue? Did you run the Hardware Test CD? If so, the results of the test?

If your computer is still under warranty and/or you have AppleCare, letting Apple take care of your issues and/or problems is the easiest way.

  • Pre10 wont start disc/folder burn. Tried everything!

    Hi there,
I recently bought a new computer and I can not get Pre7 or Pre10 to burn a folder or a disc. I have browsed these forums for hours and hours looking for a solution but no success.  I initially loaded Pre7 when i got the computer but when it gave the burn error I went out yesterday and purchased Pre10 as it supports 64-bit OS, and it too is giving the same error.  Hoping I didnt waste my money on a program that refuses to create discs and folders!!
    Here are the gritty details...
    Problem:
When creating or loading a project with Pre7 or Pre10 on my computer and I try to burn to Folder 4.7GB, as soon as I click on Share>DVD, I get an error saying "Disc Burning Error - Could not start disc burning project"  I then click the only option "OK" and it then continues into the burn options screen and allows me to commence a burn but it hangs on 0%.
    Interesting Facts:
    * I have the exact same problem with Pre7 or Pre10. I also did try my old Premiere Pro 2.0 program - and it WILL burn to folder or to disc with ni problem at all.  * I have uninstalled Nero burning rom as I read there may be a conflict there. Still no luck. *  I have also tried troubleshooting success stories from other users with the same problem and had no luck.  * I tried creating a Pure AVI file and importing that into Pre10 and burning it to folder - no luck.  * I tried burning just a slideshow of lo-res images - no luck.  * I tried burning 30 seconds of simply the 'Black Video' from the stock Pre10 'new items' but no luck.  * No matter what I do, as soon as I click on Share>DVD I get this error message.  * My burner is being detected.  * I have also disabled my anti-virus and also deleted Pre7 or Pro2.0 (and used only Pre10) but still no luck.  * I have updated my graphics drivers, my QuickTime program and also a Windows update but still no luck.  * I loaded discs 2 and 4 (program-64bit and contect disc) and did not experience any installation problems.
I dont know what else to try.

How do I export a 98 min video edited in FCP 7 to IDVD for single disc DVD burning?

Your current settings should match the source material in your timeline. Though, it probably doens't matter what it is as long as your settings are not for a highly compressed format like h.264 or mpeg2.
iDVD should take any all "I" frame format and encode it. (All I frame formats include DV, DVCProHD, ProRes).

  • Pixelation occurring after disc image burn

I'm having a problem with pixelation after performing a disc image burn through iDVD.  I'm filming with Sony AX-2000 cameras onto Sony Memory Sticks, and loading the footage as Apple ProRes 422.  The footage looks fine and no pixelation once loaded.  After the edit is complete, I'm exporting it as a Quicktime self-contained movie, using "current settings" like I always have in the past.  This QT self-contained movie file looks fine once complete, and there is no pixelation in it.
However, once I pull that file into iDVD, and then burn a disc image of it, I'm getting pixelation, but only in certain places.  This is BEFORE I burn the actual DVD, but the pixelation does show up on the DVD.  I'd say out of a 90 minute wedding video, there is a total of 5 minutes of pixelated footage spread out primarily over the first 30 minutes of the DVD.  I've burned the disc image twice now, and it's pixelating in the same places.
I've been using this same process for the past 1 1/2 to 2 years without trouble on all my projects, but for some reason this wedding video is getting pixelation.  I have no idea what to do and welcome any suggestions.

    A couple of thoughts:
I assume you're evaluating the DVD on a television…because computer playback often gives misleading results.
If the artifacts continue to show up in TV playback, then try some tests using Compressor and/or DVD Studio Pro. Start with a small segment that includes the problem footage, and choose the 120 minutes Best Quality DVD preset. In Encoder, open quality and goose the bit rate up until the point where  you're approaching the time limits of your video (the "allows" message provides time feedback at the bottom of the pane). In Frame Controls set Resize Filter to Best. In Preview, insert compression markers at the points where the artifacting begins. Either have Compressor spit out a test DVD as a job action or bring in into DVDSP to make a build without a menu. Evaluate.
Hopefully, you'll find the right recipe.

  • My imac keeps ejecting my discs, wont burn anything either

my imac keeps ejecting my discs, wont burn anything either

Are these CDs? DVDs? or both?
Have you tried using a different brand of disks? Some work better than others.
Does it eject all disks or only some? Only blank disks or some that have already been made? Commercial disks or burned?

  • Menu audio will play during preview but not when disc is burned.

    Encore CS6.
Menu music plays fine in preview. I know that the file is good. No menu audio after disc is burned. Have tried several different transcoding options. There is menu video too that is working fine.

Here are notes I couldn't find before I posted that; just general re testing methods:
Mounting an iso (or building to a folder) is a great way to test.  There are some differences, but it is a great method prior to burning to a disk.  The main difference is simply computer vs dvd player - autoactivate on a button doesn't work with a mouseover, and you can be fooled into thinking your navigation does, or does not, work.  (Even on the computer, don't use the mouse for testing, use the "remote" in the player controls.)
Encore preview is an emulator, like computer DVD players, that attempts to predict what will happen when a disk is played on a set top DVD player. It has always had issues with some predictions not being accurate. Some inaccuracies are like this one: Encore preview does not work, and a burned disk will. Others are the opposite; it works in Encore preview, and not in a DVD player. The point to be made here is that you cannot rely on Encore preview. You also cannot rely on computer playback of a built image or folder. And, in the end, you cannot rely on playback on one DVD player - some disks work on some players and not on others.
