Cancelling a batch job

I'm a newbie running SAP 4.7. A user has submitted a batch job that runs every week. The user no longer has an ID on the SAP system.
1.) I run sm37 and enter the user id and job name RSUSR070
2.) Select all possible scenarios: SCHEDULED, RELEASED, READY, ACTIVE, COMPLETE, CANCELLED
3.) The system displays CANCELLED jobs only
4.) The jobs fail because the user id no longer exists.
How can I stop this job from running?

In SM37 when u get display of cancelled jobbs delete them

I have a batch job which is being cancelled as the reference user account is locked. I want to update the job with a new user.
How can I change the user for a cancelled job? I am able to change the user for a scheduled job (by right clicking the job >> Change) but not for a cancelled job.
I am getting the error: "<<Job Name>> cannot be changed due to its status" when trying to change the cancelled job.

change the user of a cancelled background (batch) job
1) Goto <b>SM37</b>
2) Select the cancelled job and goto menu bar select <b>Job</b> ) click on change.
3) Click on step tab
4) Select the job and click on change tab. Change the user name and save.

Cancellation of batch jobs

Hi all,
I have found few batch jobs in active state for so long in our system. When i tried to cancel the active jobs i got a message as below
FI_RD_BILLING DUE LIST is not active - cancellation not possible!
I checked the background WP in the system. None of them are in running state.
Pls help me how to delete these jobs from SM37

Try SM66, u have an option to cancel the jobs
or better u can request ur basis guy, if u are not the basis guy.

Display error message in batch job log

Hello
I have a batch job running and I have an error coming during some validation logic.
The problem is I need to continue the batch job when this error message comes and it should not cancel the batch job as it is doing currently but display that error message in batch job log, there are more similar error messages coming in job log and job gets finished, but when my error message comes job gets cancelled.
I cannot give it as info message as it will give wrong idea about message type.
Is there any FM by which we can add message in job log?

Sanjeev I have done that but problem is I do not want to give that as Information message but Error message only and continue processing.
If you see in screenshot 3rd message is given by me as information and you can see error messages also 6th and 7th and job continued till it is finished
Basically I want that 'I' to be displayed as 'E'.

We have a background batch job used to trigger an event to execute the Porcess Chain that is to be scheduled daily in BI.
Now we don't required this functionality any more.So I try to cancel this job using transaction SM37 but unfortunately I am not able to cancel/ kill the job.
How shall I handle this issue.

Select your process chain in the planning view
Right click on the start varaint and display all jobs,
It will show you the job scheduled, Finshed everything.
Select the job which is scheduled or released and Delete the job.
Else go to SM37 , enter the job, delete the scheduled job there.

Batch job failing with INVALID_STARTDATE exception

Hello Experts,
our batch job runs 17th minute of every hour on daily basis.It is running successfully from 00:17 AM to 20:17 PM and gets completed within 1 hour for every run.
But when it is starting 21:17PM, it keeps on running for next 5-6 hours and then gets cancelled with error "Invalid_startdate"
Currently it is posting all the idocs.Idoc status is 53. But the problem is closing the job Function module JOB_CLOSE is throwing an exception "INVALID_STARTDATE" and gets cancelled.
Could anyone please provide us any help on this.

Usually this message is raised because of:
Unsupported combinations of specifications, such as periodic repetition of jobs that were scheduled to wait for a predecessor job
Incomplete or incorrect specifications, such as an incomplete start date.
but..is your SAP in a time zone 3 hours different from yours?
e.g. New York has already a new day when you have 9PM in LA

Batch jobs with status "active" but aren't really active

We have 4 jobs that show up in SM37 with a status of "active", but they aren't really active.
They are from 1998, and the client & server listed no longer exist. The PIDs listed do not exist on any servers.
We have tried to cancel, delete, check status, nothing works.
Is there some way to get rid of these jobs from the system?
RSBTCDEL / RSBTCDEL2 will not work, because the jobs are active.

When I try to cancel the "active" job, I get message "Error occured determining batch work process information" (Message BT241).
When I do a Check Status, it just says "1 jobs were checked and 0 jobs were corrected"
When I try to delete, it says "Job xxxx is active. The selected function cannot be performed"
We have jobs SAP_REORG_JOBS and SAP_REORG_JOBSTATISTIC running. I cannot find a standard job SAP_REORG_JOBSSTATUS mentioned in Yves reply. If this existst, can you tell me what program is being executed by the job?
We shut down / restarted one of the systems that has some of the old jobs yesterday, and the problem still exists.
We are at Basis release 702, SP 12.

Batch Jobs fail because User ID is either Locked or deleted from SAP System

Business Users releases batch jobs under their user id.
And when these User Ids are deleted or locked by system administrator, these batch jobs fail, due to either user being locked or deleted from the system.
Is there any way that these batch jobs can be stopped from cancelling or any SAP standard report to check if there are any batch jobs running under specific user id.

What you can do is, if you want the jobs to be still running under the particular user's name (I know people crib about anything and everything), and not worry about the jobs failing when the user is locked out, you can still achieve this by creating a system (eg bkgrjobs) user and run the Steps in the jobs under that System User name. You can do this while defining the Step in SM37
This way, the jobs will keep running under the Business User's name and will not fail if he/she is locked out. But make sure that the System User has the necessary authorizations or the job will fail. Sap_all should be fine, but it really again depends on your company.

You could cancel the Job in SM51 transaction. Choose your PID from SM51 and go to menu-->choose cancel without core. It takes some time to cancel the job completly.

Error in batch job

Hello experts,
This is regarding the error that occured during a batch job run.
During a batch job run the job has been cancelled due to an system exception ERROR_MESSAGE.
And the error is "LOBM_ZUSTD: Value "X" not found".
The batch job is failing daily due to this error.
May i know when do we get this type of errors and what can be the path forward to it.

This error is occurred due to Invalid records in master data.
Do refer the below KBA which explains you in detail the situation why this error occurred during batch job run and corresponding solution for the same.

Batch job scheduling based on Event AND for the job to complete

I am trying to schedule a background job based on an event AND based on the job finishing itself.
Example:
Job name: Send_Message
After Event: SAP_NEW_PROCESS Message
Program: Program xxxx
I want that the Send_Message job only runs when the Event SAP_NEW_PROCESS message happens AND the Send_Message job is not running.
Right now, I could only schedule it based on the event SAP_NEW_PROCESS Message which means that everytime this event happens the job runs and I end up having the job "Send_Message" in multilple intances where the others will immediately cancel since the first job is still running and so I end up with a lot of Cancelled job when it is not necessary to run them all when there is already 1 instance of the Job running.
How do I set it up in SAP?

The Event "SAP_NEW_PROCESS_MESSAGES" is a standard SAP Event. We used that such that when a new transaction comes in, the batch job will run but we don't want to run the batch job if the same batch job is already running.
YOu mentioned that I should set up Job_0. Do I need to create an ABAP prorgram to check if JOB_1 is running? How do I set up Job_0? What is the trigger for my Job_0 to run?
You also said that I set up Job_1 and trigger that based on the outcome of Job_0 AND at the same time be triggered by the event "SAP_NEW_PROCESS_MESSAGES". How do I set up this Job_1 so that it can be triggered by both Job_0 and a new transaction coming in(SAP_NEW_PROCESS_MESSAGES).

Reg Batch job

Hello friends,
There is a btach job say 'XYZ' , for which job frequency has been mentioned as 10min.(i.e periodic job). This job usually take 400-500 sec to complete. But, sometime it is taking more than 2000sec and more. So, in this case user ask basis/technical to cancel this job....
Is there any way to give the condition, like if batch job is running for more than 1000sec than cancel the job?

No... Batch jobs are specifically for that... long running jobs... if you were to put a limit on the time the batch processes can handle a request you will be in trouble.
Basically you need to review the steps on the job, read the logs and analize the cause of the delay... you can trace it and get very detailed info.

Hello,
the way of filling table ALBTCMON is a very easy way to do some kind of general job monitoring and just check for runtime and job cancellation. This is especially fine for basis IT or housekeeping jobs. I don't know about any standard interface to the SAP Soluiton Manager Service Desk.
Job monitoring with Business Process monitoring is a different level of sophistication. You can put jobs in the business context. Besides job cancellation and runtime you can check for start delays (business wise not technically as hsown in SM37) and end delays and you can check for specific job log entries.
You can centrally define auto-reachtion methods for email, SMS or Service Desk. Since ST400 SP12 you can also centrally document background jobs (web-enabled) in the SAP Solution Manager which also integrates with BPMon. That should bring customers away from their Excel-spreadsheet documentation which is most of the time incomplete.
Since ST400 SP15 you can also get a a standard job request form (also web-enabled) which integrates again with Service Desk and job documentation.
So a complete process form request over documentation to scheduling and monitoring is supported without media break and copy pasting.

Extraction Batch Job

Dear All,
In my company I am using Data services and system generate daily order ststus report every day (webi report)
The extraction batch jobs are set at 6:00, 6:30 and 8:30 everyday.
My order ststus job is taking 10 hours to complete which is way to high and on top of it sends out the empty report.
I have checked and noticed that I need to simplfy the R/3 process and minimize the dataflows , In othe words I might use 1 table per R/3 dataflow,
But before I start this tedious process I have come up with a temporary solution that is to cancel the 6:00 and 6:30 job and instead of 8:30 job I reschedule it for 10:00 which means that daily report will now run at 10:30.
This solution doesnt seems to work as well becuase now at 10:30 I am getting a empty report as well.
I would like to know what is the reason that I am getting empty reports even after I rescheduled the batch job to different time.
Also what else can I do to improve the processing time of these batch job so it can run faster.
I would appreciate if you guys can advise me the solution based on your experience in data services.

Hi Tom,
Batch Job and BAdi's are two different things but their purpose is somewhat similar i.e. background processing.
BAdi's are SAP enhancmenents where in you can attach your own code to SAP code which is getting executed so that along with std code to ger our job is done.
Background jobs are scheduled to run in system periodically. Here we can code like it will check for certain things and then if required it will execute some code.

Missed deadline batch job giving dump.

In my PO release workflow scenario, deadline is not working . On searching in this forum I come to know that a batch job u201CSWWDHEXu201D with step u201CRSWWDHEXu201D needs to be scheduled with frequency 3 mins, so i did this. Now the issue is no workitem is getting created and the above batch job is also getting cancelled due to error. The error description is as follows :
Runtime Errors         MOVE_NOT_SUPPORTED.
Short text
    Conversion from type "D" to "T" not supported.
Error analysis
    The fields "ABAPFIELD" (type "D") and "<SWC_CONT>" (type "T")
    cannot normally be transported to each other.
Is there any SAP note to be implemented to resolve this issue ?
Can anyone help me in resolving this issue . I would greatly appreciate your help.

Hi Akshay,
II have copied the Std workflow WS20000075 into a custom one and in the latest end tab, i have selected "Workitem creaton" for Refer Date/Time field and given 5 mins. I have deactivated the workflow in which i have created the containers for date and time and used "Expresion" for latest end and also commented the zmethod in delegated object. Even now also the job is getting cancelled with the same error.
Any idea why is it happening ?
