Cancelling iPad data plan

Hi folks,
I've seen all sorts of odd things about how to go about cancelling a data plan for my iPad.  I called customer service and got yet a different set of answers.  So...
If I want to finish out the current month and cancel at that point what do I do?
Apparently there is a "suspend" option and a "cancel" option.  I've seen people claim here that cancelling an account means you'll need to get a new SIM card.  True?
I've also seen it posted here that suspending an account may result in them restarting your service without you asking them to do so.  True?
The lady I spoke with at customer service said that suspending the account was a more permanent action and should only be done if the device was lost or broken.  True?
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4572 indicates that I need to cancel the account, which seems overkill as I'd like to reactive it later.  Will I be able to do so just as easily as when I first activated it?
Anything else I should know about turning off the data service?
Thanks,
Mark

    Hey there Mark1267,
I am saddened to hear that you are thinking about cancelling the data plan on your account.  We appreciate your continued support and would like to continue our relationship. What has you thinking of cancelling?
To answer your questions I would first need to find out if you are on a prepaid or postpaid account?  Which iPad are you currently using?
When you disconnect service, the disconnect date is set to the end of the bill cycle by default.
If you are on a postpaid account there is a suspend option.  If you would like to suspend service and billing you would want to suspend the device with billing.  Since you plan on reactivating it later this may be your best option.  This will suspend service and billing for 90 days.  The service will reconnect on the 91st day but you have the option to resuspend for another 90 days for a total of 180 days in a calender year.  This allows you to suspend and reconnect as needed.  This will extend our your customer agreement for the amount of days you leave the line suspended but if your iPad isn't under contract it will not effect that.  For more steps on suspending please visit http://vz.to/10j0Iv2.
I know this is a lot of information Mark, so please let me know if you have additional questions.

  • Can I cancel my data plan?

For a smartphone that is on a month-to-month contract, can I cancel my data plan that I no longer need, and keep the voice & text plans?  Or do I need to switch phones?  Or switch carriers?

if you have a smart phone you need some sort of data package.   however if your month to month they have special discounts for you   what plan are you on and what are you payinbg?
you could get the 500 mb plan for 20 bucks, unl talk and text,  line access of 40 minus 15 month to month discount.   45 dollars a month for a cell is not bad

  • Lost ipad - Need to cancel recurring data plan

Surely there is a way to cancel the dataplan that is automatically charged to my debit card each month? ?? I no longer have the Ipad so I cannot cancel the plan using Settings, and I don't know what the device number was as the Ipad is gone. I continue to get charged $20/mo. I bought a new Ipad and added the plan to my cellphone account sharing a pool of data. So the new ipad is on a 2 year contract. But I continue to get charged for data for an old Ipad I no longer have in my possession. When I called, three Verizon people told me that without the Ipad acct number, I am out of luck and they cannot cancel the plan and they can't look up my number using my debit card number or name. How ridiculous is that? They said I had to have my bank stop payment on the charges. I want Verizon to stop charging for data I cannot use on a device I cannot access because I no longer own it!
Called my bank and they cannot stop the charges because it is a debit card charge. They could if it was a debit through clearinghouse, but not debit card. I do not want to cancel my debit card and get a whole new one. It seems to me Verizon could cancel this recurring data charge for a device I no longer own. Isn't there a way to do this?

There is no "bill". The Ipad was on a recurring data plan...pay as you go. There was no contract, so no "billing". The Verizon representatives told me that if I could not cancel the debit using "Cellular Data" under the "General" settings on the Ipad (which is where I set it up) then, they cannot cancel it and they will charge me for the rest of my life...or until my debit card expires in two years. My bank cannot stop this re-curring charge because it is a debit withdrawal. All they can do is close the account and open a new one. It is ridiculous that Verizon is telling me that they have no way to find out which account the $20 they they take from me each month is going to. Can someone hlep?

  • How to view iPad data plan usage history?

Is there a way to view AT&T's Data Plan usage by month?
All that I can find is what is available on the iPad Settings in Cellular plan. I don't find a web site login or any other way to see what I've used each month.
    Thanks for any info.

  • Got new ipad; data plan transferred to new SIM; what to do with old SIM?

Hi, I bought a "new iPad" and just set it up as a restore of my old iPad. It seems to have automagically transferred the data plan from my old sim to the new sim that was already in the iPad. The old SIM isn't working any more, I tested it.
I am giving my old iPad (iPad 2) to a friend, I'm wondering if I should give them the old SIM card as well, it seems like it's ready to be set up as a new account.
When I put the old sim card in the new iPad, it says there's no data left on it and asks if I want to set up an account.
There was also a note that you could transfer an old plan to this SIM just by logging in to the account for the other SIM, so I think this automatically happened with the new iPad.
Should I give my friend the old SIM as well as let them use that to set up a new account, or should I trash or store it and ask them to go to AT&T store to get a new sim?
    Thanks

Your friend can use the old SIM card.

So Urumilton you are saying that all BlackBerry phones have the ability to access Wi-Fi? Are you sure that it isn't based on the carrier? The BlackBerry phone that I have is through a regional carrier that is very similar to Verizon. I have looked everywhere on my phone and there is no way, that I can see, that I would be able to get on to Wi-Fi. While a friends BlackBerry that is on AT&T has the ability to get on to Wi-Fi.
I am going to have to disagree with you, and say that it is based on the carrier. That's just based on what I have seen with my phone. If I am wrong could you please tell me how I would be able to access Wi-Fi. I would like to take advantage of this feature. Thanks

  • HT4157 IPAD data plan

I had a data plan but the credit card must have expired. Do I just sign u again?

Did you get it resolved? If so, who/how did they take care of it?
Did you not try just signing up again? The iPad is supposed to be able to set up a month-to-month account, so that should work too.

  • Ipad data plan

if i cnx my verizon high speed for my pc but retain a verizon data plan for my ipad will i lose my verizon email address?

Yes, you would lose the email address. Your verizon.net address is linked to your HSI or FiOS account. Email isn't provided for wireless plans.
You could keep it by purchasing Verizon Your Domain if you are looking to save money without losing your address. It's not free, but $19.95/year is cheaper than even the cheapest internet plan.
The best advice though is probably to get an email address that is not provided by your ISP. There are several free providers out there (Gmail, Yahoo, and Hotmail just to name a few), and some very cheap custom domain options. None of those would have to change when you change your service provider, meaning you wouldn't have to worry about situations like this one.

  • Where do I buy an iPad data plan in Prague?

We're going to Prague, Czech Republic in September and I'm wondering where in Prague to purchase a data plan for my iPad3.  Also, if anyone has a link to a website for Czech Republic data plans that would be helpful. I plan to use wifi where available, but want to be connected to the internet while travelling. Thanks.

  • Can I use Apple TV with unlimited data plan for my IPad without any other internet connection?

I Live in a weird area with no hardwired internet connection.
My only internet connection is my iPad Air's UNLIMITED DATA plan from AT&T... It's LTE and it works great for my usual work.
i Want to cancel stupid Direct TV acct and use Apple TV instead...
IS it possible to subscribe a TV account online by using my ipad air's unlimited data plan and watch in on my TV via Apple TV without  using any other type of home network account?

If you intend to use your iPads data plan then that will require use of the tethering/hot spot feature. As I said, you will not be able to use airplay, that needs a wifi LAN (home  network). This may change with IOS 8, but won't know for sure until the release.

  • IPad2 3G Data Plan with Verizon

I'm really looking forward to purchasing the new iPad 2 when it's released on the 11th. I was leaning toward the WiFi + 3G version with Verizon as the carrier because Verizon has a larger footprint in the U.S. and I'm already a Verizon customer.
However, I spoke with a customer service rep at Verizon a couple of days ago who suggested that Verizon would be charging an initial $35 activation fee. She also said that if you canceled the data plan and decided to re-active 3G service at a later time, there would be an additional $35 for reactivating the service if the service had been turned off for 6 months or longer.
I had only planned on using the 3G service when I travel and in those rare instances when I'm not near a Wifi hotspot - neither of which happens very often. I want the flexibility of being able to purchase a month of 3G service when needed without a contract, but a $35 activation/reactivation fee is a a deal-killer for me. I'm really hoping that the Verizon rep was misinformed and that what she told me was incorrect.
Can anyone confirm that Verizon is really going to charge a $35 activation/reactivation fee with their iPad 2 data plans? Does AT&T charge a similar fee?

have the same concerns about activation / reactivation fees.. went to AT&T store and the Verizon store..also spoke to reps on phone...as best I can find out is that AT&T WILL NOT charge activation or reactivation fees whereas Verizon WILL charge these fees....only specific I could not get from any Verizon rep was how long the 3G service would have to be off before they charged another reactivation fee
find it hard to believe that Verizon is actually doing this considering the imense competition for the Ipad2 between these carriers...
looks like AT & T even though I currently have 3 phones with Verizon...

  • Is there a phone number associated with the at&t cellular data plan?

Is the AT&T cellular data plan for the ipad associated with an at&t phone number and if so, how do you know what it is?

    OlgaJ wrote:
That's true. But he can call AT&T and cancel the account. Otherwise anyone who has the iPad will enjoy the data service on the original poster's dime.
Good point.  Better then to logon to the AT&T's iPad account webpage to cancel the data plan.

I just logged on to mine and I noticed that the phone number is listed on my account info.

  • Order iPhone 5s online and do unlimited data plan swap later?

Forgive me if this question has already been asked:
I'm looking to upgrade to 5s (from Droid incredible).  I have unlimited data plan. My wife has a flip phone and will stay with dumb phone.  We are both eligible for an upgrade, and are planning to do the swap described elsewhere where she gets the smart phone and a data plan with her upgrade, I get the dumb phone with my upgrade, and then we trade phones and she cancels the data plan.
Question is: can this be accomplished (or more likely started) by reserving the iphone 5s online instead of going to a store?  Is it as simple as ordering the phone for her number through the Verizon website (or Apple's?), and then once it arrives, heading to the Verizon store for all the swapping and purchase of new flip phone?
Thanks to anyone who an help!  In the end, I don't need the iphone immediately.  But would hate to haves to wait too long, and concerned about stock levels and driving all over town chasing phones.

Ann154 is correct. That will not work.
This is what I would do: Upgrade to the iPhone on your wife's line. You can order it online and activate it right through My Verizon online when it comes to your house. You must activate it on her line first to accept the contract terms and conditions.
Do NOT use your line to upgrade to a basic phone; buy your wife a basic phone off contract. You can find them reasonably priced on many retail and auction sites.
Move the iPhone to your line, which keeps its unlimited data, and activate the off-contract basic phone on your wife's line.

  • Data plan limits include WiFi browsing?

I will be picking up my first Ipad soon and feel that 4G could be helpful for me 3 or 4 months out of the year. My understanding is that you can activate and deactivate the 4G plan with Verizon or AT&T on a monthly basis.
There is a note under the the Ipad data plan listings at the Apple Store which states regarding data limits "Includes Wi-Fi browsing; refer to carrier website for terms and conditions". I have had trouble finding these terms on either Verizon or AT&T's website. What exactly does this note mean? I am assuming that using WiFi at home or at another free hotspot does not impact these data limits but find this statement confusing.
Another question would be whether it is possible to turn off 4G on the Ipad itself temporarily so as not to use a cellular signal at all.
I have never had a cellular data plan so hopefully you will excuse my question. The size and features of the Ipad leads me to think it is time to pull the trigger.
