Cancelling shuffle when there IS no album artwork

I have purchased and downloaded a book from an independent website. The book is unfortunately broken into over a 100 tracks and for some reason the iPhone has them set to shuffle, so I have to keep stopping it and finding the correct track. I don't have an album cover or book jacket to tap and then access the shuffle controls--does anyone have a go around for this?

First have you put the AudioBook into the appropriate section of iTunes?
you can change its Media Kind to Audiobook (click Options in the Info window) so that it appears under Audiobooks (instead of Music). If you do this, iTunes also remembers your place in the audiobook
Best option for audiobooks is to highlight all the tracks that make it up and select the option for gapless playback.
Also check to make sure all the information like Album etc... is correctly filled out in "Get Info"
While the AudioBook is playing on the iPhone it should display a generic picture of a book as the background since you don't have any coverart, by tapping on this image it will bring up the top bar that shows elapsed track time shuffle and repeat. Just tap the shuffle icon that should be in blue (if it's not blue it means that the track listing information is incorrect and it's not actually shuffling) if it is shuffling the tracks.

Has anyone had the issue of getting an "unknown error" -50 when trying to sync Album Artwork? I have searched for a similar problem and have found nothing. The art work used to work on my old machine. I have recent change computers, but I moved all my music over to the new machine without any issues. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

*Why is artwork not showing on my iPod when it's there in iTunes?*
iTunes will display a cover in many of it's views provided at least one track from the album has embedded artwork. The iPod appears to load only the artwork from track one to create the cover flow and album views which means that it can sometimes fail to display art for albums even when you can see the art in iTunes. Further, when tracks are played on the iPod, artwork is displayed if and only if it exisits in the currently playing track, so track one may show art while track two does not.
*How to find tracks without artwork*
To find all the tracks without artwork so that you can update them you can try http://www.stum.de/itunes-find-tracks-without-artwork/ for Windows or http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scripts13.php for Macs. If you're using Google or other FWSE to locate suitable images they should be jpg's and ideally square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. If you have artwork for some tracks of an album, but not others, select a track with artwork, right-click (Option-Click for Macs) on the art & click copy, then select all the tracks of the abum, use CTRL-I or Option-I to *Get Info* and then paste the image into the artwork box.
    *Rebuild artwork cache*
Sometimes the artwork cache becomes corrupt and fails to show correct artwork, even when this is properly set up in iTunes. To rebuild the artwork cache, connect your iPod to iTunes. Locate the iPod in the Sources pane on the left-hand side, then select the Music tab. Remove the tick from *Display album artwork on your iPod*, sync the iPod, reselect the option & sync again.

  • When I auto-update, album artwork goes bye-bye

I have album artwork for all of my songs on my iTunes. If I upload the songs manually to my iPod, all the artwork shows up. Then if I add a song or two to the iTunes library and then choose auto update to update the iPod to match my music library, all the album artwork disappears. Does anyone know what is going on here??

    Lee,
You need to have your computer connected to the Internet in order for it to find the track info for a CD - it accesses the online GraceNote database to match song profiles. Only if your music isn't already there (which is very unlikely) will it not come up with something.
For the album artwork, it is not contained on the CD itself. You need to search for it. Most people find it on Amazon.com. Click until you get to the big (~300x300) image, save it and edit it on your PC, then drag and drop it into the box in iTunes where it says "drop album artwork here".

  • Receiving 'Unknown Error (-609)' when trying to download album artwork.

Hey all. The subject line says it all. When importing tracks from CD or other sources into iTunes, I get Unknown Error (-609) every time. My connection works, and I've only had this problem since updating to the latest version. The last time I had this issue, I updated and everything was fine but I can't update to a later version now.
Does anyone know how to get rid of this issue?

And before it gets suggested, I know full well I can use my internet browser to get artwork and copy/paste it that way. But as I'm in the middle of a stack of roughly 40 discs that I'm uploading, I have no desire to search out all of those album covers if it can be avoided.

  • Where is the "print" tab when I right click album artwork?

Would love to print out cd covers like I have been doing for the past 8 years. Did it go away when I updated?

  • WHEN ITOUCH IS VIEWED BY ALBUM ARTWORK SOME ALBUMS DONT SHOW!

I HAVE LOADED ABOUT TEN ALBUMS ON MY ITOUCH IN OSX AND XP BUT ONLY SOME OF THE ALBUMS SHOW WHEN VIEWED BY THE ALBUM ARTWORK BUT THE ALBUMS ARE ON THE TOUCH BECAUSE THEY SHOW IN THE ALPHABETICAL LISTS ( ITOUCH VERTICAL )OF MUSIC! BUT WHEN YOU ROTATE TO ALBUM ARTWORK VIEW ( ITOUCH LANDSCAPE )SOME OF THE ALBUMS DONT SHOW AT ALL! TRIED ON XP TO SEE IF THIS WAS A WAY AROUND IT BUT STILL THE SAME! RESET SETTINGS NO GOOD!

this happened to me as well, I bought my touch a few days ago from New York and after a few uses the album art was mismatching.
The first thing I did was select all my music, and selected compilations to no for everything, this irons out most of it.
Secondly, I made the artwork for the offending tracks bigger (at least 500x500) and this cleaned up the problem almost completely.
There were two tracks left which were mismatching but I just deleted them because I don't really listen to them!
    Hope that helps!

  • ITunes can't get album artwork for songs iTunes has in the store... how do i fix this?

i have a bunch of songs that either have the wrong album artwork or none at all.  the weirdest thing is that some of the albums are SOLD on iTunes. in fact, if i highlight one of my songs in iTunes, Ping sees it and shows me the correct cover art. BUT when i click "get album artwork", it tells me it cannot find the artwork. i've tried matching the text (song title, album title, artist, genre) exactly as it is in iTunes, but that doesn't help. it is doing this for about 60 of my albums and i don't know how to fix it. how can i get it to find the artwork?
also... when iTunes finds the WRONG artwork, how can i direct it to the correct one?

Albums, artists and complications must match precisely for iTunes to get a hit.  If you have a compilation, chances are you have a 'various artists' for an album artists ... there is a bit of a science to it.  I've managed to get most of my 'picky ones' to match.  But I have some that just won't - for whatever reason.

  • Album Artwork revisited

Same old problem. How can you manually add a single image for the whole album (as iTunes does when downloading it from the iTMS) rather than simply embedding it in every track file?
AFAICT, the short answer is you can't, but I hope it will change.
However, I have found a partial solution.
When artwork cannot be downloaded from the iTMS or it is the incorrect image (a common problem), find the image you want to use (or make your own) and embed it (i.e. paste it into an artwork display box) into the FIRST track that is listed for that album (which may not be 1 if e.g. that is missing). Actually, it may work with ANY single track, I only tried it with the first track.
This artwork will now display as the artwork for the WHOLE album when you view the album in iTunes as CoverFlow, or the one that lists the tracks beside the artwork (middle option). The bottom left corner of the screen actually shows what is in the file however, so that will only show the image for the track into which you pasted it (unless it was an iTMS download, in which case it shows for all tracks, even though it is embedded in NONE of them).
So, for the most part, iTunes now has the capability to display the correct artwork for all tracks of any album for which it cannot be downloaded from iTMS, yet still only storing a single copy of that image and not wasting the space of duplicating the data in every track for that album.
So far, so good. It is worth noting also that the actual track mp3 files take on the icon of any embedded artwork, so those that are 'empty' will still show the generic MP3 icon. Unless of course you have been able to download the artwork from the iTMS, in which case the icons of all the tracks will be set to that image. Clever stuff since the actual image is stored entirely somewhere else.
Ok, so how does this work when syncing to the iPod and playing on an Apple TV?
Of course, correctly downloaded artwork from the iTMS shows up correctly all the time, for all tracks (for which the Album Artwork has been downloaded) and at first it looks like the alternative of simply adding an image to the first track has the same effect, but it's not all roses. But please remember, it's not the quality to which I am referring. It is WHERE the image data is stored - in a separate folder if it's downloaded from the iTMS, or embedded in the actual file if you added it manually.
On the Apple TV, select an artist and all the albums show their artwork, even those with it embedded in ONLY the one track. Play ANY track and the artwork displays as it should. You cannot tell the difference between Album Artwork downloaded from the iTMS and images you have pasted into a single track (maybe not the one you are playing).
On the iPod unfortunately it's a different story. Viewing the albums of any artist shows the correct artwork for each album, even those with it embedded in just the one track. The Beatles is a good test here since there's NO chance the artwork can have come from the iTMS. Play the first track of one of these albums and the artwork is displayed as it plays, jump to the next track and it's blank. Of course, my first tracks contained the embedded artwork so I guess the track that does display the artwork is the one that contains the image data.
The issue here is that the Apple TV is able to make the same association between tracks of the same album and hence display artwork embedded in a single track for ALL the tracks of that album as iTunes does. And it works as a good alternative when you cannot download Album Artwork from the iTMS. BUT, the iPOD fails to do this when you are playing the album. Do the programming teams not talk to each other?
So, embedding the artwork in a single track is currently a partial solution. Let's hope the iPod developers catch up, or even better if they provide the ability to manually add Album Artwork by the same method as if it were downloaded from the iTMS.
As always, if anyone knows how to manually add iTunes style Album Artwork, I'd be delighted to know.

Sorry if I wasn't entirely clear in my previous post. Storing the same artwork in EVERY file for the album, i.e. duplicating the same data multiple times, is simply not an acceptable solution. If you want to keep the music in sync with an iPod for example, it is important not to waste storage space. In fact it is my belief this is exactly why Apple devised their Album Artwork storage strategy.
One album should have ONE piece of artwork associated with it (or several if they're different), applicable to ALL tracks of that album. Anything else is dumb.

  • Deleting album artwork from Itunes 6 after upgrading to Itunes 7

I recently upgraded to Itunes 7, and I want to delete some of my album artwork that I added in Itunes 6. I backed up my entire library and imported it into Itunes 7 after I installed it. Some of my album artwork consists or low-res clipart, and I want to update my entire library with new album artwork. When I choose "get album artwork", Itunes doesn't update my music with the new artwork. I also tried the "get info" submenu, and there isn't any artwork listed in the window, though it shows the artwork in the album srcolling window. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This info is included in the song tag, you have to edit the individual song tag to change the artwork. To do this, right click on the song with bad artwork, then choose the first option "get info". A box will open, click on the artwork tab (you may have several pieces or artwork here--delete the ones you don't like. It's possible the good art you want will be one of the choices. Make sure this appears first in the list and then you'll see it in iTunes. If you need to add the artwork, click the add button and browse/find the artwork you want to add.
    Hope this helps!

  • Some album artwork won't display on iPad

    Hi guys,
Some of the song's album artwork won't display on my iPad or iPhone but shows up against each song in the album on iTunes on my Mac. There are entire albums' artwork not showing, yet when I open and play the same song in iTunes on my mac, it's there.
    Any ideas?

in iTunes, choose to not *display Album Artwork on your iPod*, then sync your iPod, then change it back to display album artwork and sync again. I believe that will fix it.

  • Album Artwork

    Ok...I'm not an idiot.
I've had my iPod Video since December 2006. When I add music, I always download the album artwork if it's available. If it is not, I scan in the CD cover (as a jpg) and import it. I've done this ever since the first CD I imported. It's cool being able to see the artwork on my iPod.
I noticed this week that all the new CDs I imported did NOT sync the album artwork. All the music is there, but NO album artwork - although the artwork is showing up in iTunes. It is not showing up on my iPod. I've done nothing different.
Any suggestions on why this is happening now, after 9 months?

Here's how to setup multiple playlists for your iPods:
    1. Create a new iTunes playlist for each one of your iPods. This may be a good opportunity for a Smart Playlist.
    2. Configure the iPod Options in iTunes so that each iPod only gets updated with a specific playlist.
"I have all the songs from the library I want, some of which overlap with my wife's and kid’s, saved into a single playlist. I have all the songs my wife wants on a separate playlist and the kids on their own playlist. If you select all songs in the library and uncheck them, nothing will write onto the iPod under AutoSync. BUT, if you then click on the correct playlist, select all songs and check selection, they will be checked both in the playlist AND in the library. Switch the correct iPod to AutoSync and, poof, you can AutoSync your iPod with only the checked songs. Repeat the procedure with the other playlist and you can AutoSync two iPods on the same computer. Now there's no Johnny Cash or Kidz Bop on my iPod) and we're all happy." ~ Kenneth

  • Downloading album artwork freeze

When I use "Get Album Artwork" from the "Advanced" menu in iTunes, the process will invariably halt at some point - sometimes at song #400 of 4135, sometimes at song #3500, sometimes song #4020 or thereabouts. It doesn't freeze the system - it doesn't even freeze iTunes! - but while everything else functions normally, clicking the "x" cancel button in the iTunes viewer window does nothing. The download will not advance, and the only thing that will kill it (even after letting it run for a day) is shutting down iTunes. At this point, it tells me it's in the process of downloading artwork, do I really want to cancel. "Yes," says I, "Okay," says iTunes, and that's that. A few hundred songs shy of completion. Talk about a lousy date! What gives?

I have the same problem that 2ubesock Shakur does. I'm also using 10.4.10 and iTunes 7.3.2; the problem began after I recently updated (updated the OS and iTunes at the same time). The problem can occur, as Shakur says, at any stage in the process, and does not appear to be related to specific files/abums--it hangs on different files each time, and even albums on which the process hangs show proper artwork if they are removed from the library and re-added.
Using Little Snitch, I have been able to confirm that, once this process freezes, iTunes ceases to make any requests for art to the server (though it can make other connections and, as Shakur indicates, otherwise continues to function normally).
    Any ideas?
