Cancelling update and reverting to older firefox

Have updated to Firefox 4 but do not like the changes. How do I revert to the previous version (3.7, i think?).
Many thanks

Sounds like we are at the same University!
My solution has been to use a virtual Windows machine to access the application under Parallels. A bit like cracking nuts with a sledgehammer, I know, but it works.

Not easily, unless you backed up your data.
Did you?  If not, let that be a lesson to never install anything without a backup:

  • I would like to uninstall the latest update and revert back to the most recent version

I've seen several posts asking how to uninstall a recent update with a reason for wanting to do this and not one of them actually answers the question. I have an add-on that I really have grown fond of that is not compatible with the latest update and simply want to know how to go back to the previous version of firefox.

Question here, not an answer so leaving with a unresolved issue.
I strongly want to Un-install Update 27.0 and revert all things back to 26.? Just tell me if I can do this without loosing all my settings and starting over????. 27.0 is not playing nice with a MAJOR website I have no control over nor can I share it online.. The kicker, don't laugh I'm using XP updated to the max. A straight answer please,I've spent hours crawling through answers and questions.
Add me to the List of numerous people who want to un-install a Update.
Thanks in Advance for the answer. 02-12-2014

  • My Firefox is crashing every five minutes. No plug ins, lap top is new drivers updates and current version of firefox. How do I stop this?!

I recently updated my firefox after doing updates and cleaning out my computer. Firefox was working fine with the old version not problems. Now I am lucky to be online for more than five mins before it crashes. Doesn't matter what page I'm on or what I am doing. No plug ins currently installed as I have only had this for two days and can't be online long enough to do anything. I hate explorer please help me fix this issue.

hello, unfortunately this seems to be a crash that is appearing in firefox 19 on windows 8 with AMD Radeon HD 6XXX/7XXX graphics cards - developers are investigating the causes of it...
the best option probably is to downgrade to the to the former version at the moment until this gets sorted out: [[Install an older version of Firefox]]
    ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/18.0.2/win32/
the auto-update in firefox 18 for the affected systems is now disabled and will be turned back on when a fix is available.

You can get the en-US version from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/

  • I just took the latest update and now cannot open Firefox, why?!

I just took the latest update (3.06.something) but when I click on Firefox -- desktop icon, Start menu shortcut, or program filename -- nothing happens. What good is that?

Try the Firefox SafeMode to see how it works there. <br />
    ''A troubleshooting mode, which disables most Add-ons.'' <br />
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default Theme.)''
    * You can open the Firefox 4/5/6/7 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''Don't select anything right now, just use "Continue in SafeMode."''
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut (without the Shft key) to open it again.''
If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

  • I have accidentally installed the Nectar toolbar as my default tool bar. How can I reverse this and revert to the Firefox toolbar as my default toolbar

I have installed a toolbar which has been customized for Nectar.com. I do not like this arrangement and want to revert to the usual Firefox toolbar. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and this has not worked.

Sorry, I'm baffled. If you install an add-on, and let Firefox restart, and the add-on is not there, that could indicate a problem with your Firefox profile. You might want to try creating a new profile, import your bookmarks, and install the add-ons again.
First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
You can create a new (blank) profile using the Profile Manager: [http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles Managing profiles].
To move key settings like bookmarks from your current profile to the new profile, see: [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile Recovering important data from an old profile].
    Hope this helps.

  • HT5493 Java update and reverting to 1.6 plug in.

    Good afternoon.
After installing the java update this week I've realised it makes my Macbook useless for work. I regularly rely on a Corporate Information System at my University to access student records. This system is incompatible with Java 7, upon installing the update it directs me to install the plug in from Oracle (for which only java 7 is available) When trying to access the system it comes up with the following error, "requires jinitiator 1.1.8.2 or higher" Which I assume is a change between Java 6 and 7.
Spent a long time with the Universities tech support who couldn't help only to confirm that Java 7 is not supported (and even directed me to several .exe windows programs to update jinitiator, as well as to some malware). Apple Tech suport had no solution to the problem either other than to time machine back to before the update.
I have now used time machine to restore to prior to the update (which took 48 hours for 300GB!!!!!)
So ideally I would like to install the update (for various reasons, including security) but still have access to University system.
Can anyone provide any advice how I can do so?
Alternatively I suppose I will have to avoid this update, but I assume it is forever going to remind me. If that is the case then is there a way to permanently tell my macbook to ignore this update?
    Any help greatfully received?
    Kind regards
    Josh

So ideally I would like to install the update (for various reasons, including security) but still have access to University system.
It doesn't sound like you can. If this is a web-based Java applet, there is no Java 6 applet plug-in anymore. Apple has removed it in this update, so you have no choice but to use Java 7 for web applets. If it is not a web applet, rolling back should work fine, but the system may be incompatible with the changes in the latest version of Java 6 as well. If you can't use the latest versions of Java, you will be forced to use a version of Java that is not only vulnerable to attack, but that the hackers of the world have now gotten a road map to (in the form of the update). Just because a vulnerability is patched does not mean that it stops being exploited... many vulnerabilities continue to be exploited for years, due to people who are unable or unwilling to install security updates.
Honestly, you shouldn't have to be forced to compromise the security of your system to use this software. You need to speak to people at your university at a higher level than just the techs, and explain to them how this system is compromising both university security and the individual security of every person who uses it. Scare them, and they'll light a fire under the techs to get this fixed.

  • My Firefox opening page has suddenly developed a ''Babylon'' bar from somewhere. How do i get rid of it and revert to plain firefox.

My opening firefox page has developed two lines called ''Babylon''with lots of buttons to go direct to facebook/you tube and twitter none of which I use. This appeared about three days ago and i would like to get back to the original plain ''firefox '' page

In the Windows Control Panel, select Programs and Features. If Babylon is included in the list of installed programs, click on it and you should then be asked if you want to uninstall it.
If it is not listed there, check the Firefox add-ons manager for the option to uninstall it, for details on doing that see [[uninstalling add-ons]].

I mistakenly downloaded firefox 3.6 before I realized my system wouldn't support it. Now firefox won't launch, and replaced my older firefox version in applications. Now what do I do?

Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions. Get it here: <br />

  • My laptop died. I've dusted off my old iMac running OSX 10.2.8 and want to upgrade firefox to 3.5 or 3.6. Looks like I can't do that - where would I find older versions of firefox to update to?

My now dead laptop was running Firefox 3.6. It died. Now I have my old iMac out of storage. It has Firefox 2.0.0.1 on it. I'm using it now. Check for updates says I can go as high as 2.0.0.20. I'd like to upgrade the iMac to the most current operating system it can work with (right now it's at OSX 10.2.8), and then get Firefox up to the most current version this can run. I tried searching for older firefox versions to download, but can't seem to find them on your website. (I used search term "download Firefox 3.5"). I did this to check and see what OSX version they can work with. Let me know what I need to do. Thanks!

I just updated Firefox and it has removed my tab setting and replaced it with pictures of Harry Potter Films. This makes it hard to read and I would like to revert to my original settings. How do I do this?

You may have installed a persona.
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
